The pecan pie is great! The filling is not too thick, not too thin. there is a generous amount of pecans, and I love the crust. The pies with chocolate in them are really rich. There is a mild graininess from sugar, but I like it. This is a local product, and I am happy to support a well made pie! Looking at the two other reviews, I’m surprised at the negative reports. I’m thinking there are all kinds of ways to make pies, and to condemn one because it is not exactly the one way you like best, seems to be taking a very narrow view of the everexpanding universe of pie! Well, I like it!

We tried the derby steeplechase pie and the pecan pie. Papa C is INLOVE with sugar and light corn syrup: the pecan pie and derby steeplechase pie were overpoweringly sweet. The crust was crumbly rather than flaky.(Honestly, my own derby pie is superior to Papa C’s.) At $ 7.75 for a six-inch pie, these are not a bargain.

Please note, this review is only for the chocolate pie. Touted as its best seller, this is what we bought.(The only other pies on offer at the farmer’s market were berry pies. The berries were not organic, so we passed.) The crust was okay, nothing special. Thick, doughy, no taste. The filling was sickening sweet. Not very well mixed, either, as large portions were yellow, not chocolate. Worst of all, the texture of the filling was very, very grainy as if the sugar hadn’t dissolved completely. Sadly, the hype did not meet expectations. Don’t understand why some rave over this pie — the emperor’s new clothes, maybe?
