When seeing the stall at the Franklin Farmers’ Market, I was impressed first by the prices. I saw some extortionately expensive beeswax candles at Whole Body a couple of weeks before and was expected the same thing. Laura’s candles are more beautiful, have more individual character and are much less expensive. She has both pillar candles and tapered ones in the classic beeswax rolled style. The cotton wicks are designed to burn slowly(this is sometimes a problem with real beeswax candles) and they smell so delicious; it’s a subtle smell, not that overpowering scent so often associated with scented candles. Laura also makes regular candles and beeswax luminaries. Laura and Jeff also produce honey. Their bees are free-flying, so, as it says on the website, they have no control over the bees’ diet, but they are trying to influence it by planting lavender. The honey is delicious, very light and sweet. She also has her own range of skincare products, sort of a local Burt’s Bees. Her body salve is surprisingly ungreasy and very effective, as is the lipgloss.
