10 minutes for order to be taken, 15 minutes and still no food. Only 4 tables with customers. Was even longer on our last attempt to eat here two weeks ago. Shame, if you can get the food it’s ok.

Hamburger steak is delightful and reminds me of grandmas! Chicken tenders salad is basic, lacks cheese, and is overwhelmed by what appeared to be an entire raw green onion minced so small you’re unable to pick it out. Ranch dressing smelled like it had gone bad. Will go back but will stick to food that has to have some effort put into it.

Ate lunch there today. Fries cold and mushy. Burger cooked to death. Diet Pepsi was old and tasted of mold. Ice water even tasted bad. Never again.

Busy locale on a Saturday morning, though we had no problem choosing a nice booth. Service was quick and friendly. Fare was pretty standard: eggs, biscuits, grits, hash browns(which were really diced potatoes), and a thorough selection of Southern meats(sausage, bacon, country ham, fatback). No butter and son’s country ham sandwich was simply two slices of bread and a slice of country ham. Good value for the money. Noticed chicken livers(yum!) on the menu for lunch(dinner?) so offerings might have been more numerous for other meals. I didn’t check throughly – worth checking out, though.

If you are interested in a home cooked meal with good vegetables then this is the place for you. We eat out a lot and this is one place we constantly go! The BBChicken is my favorite. They are very busy so you know that means the food is good! After church is very busy so go when you have time to enjoy the experience. Highly recommended!

Very good value. Fried tenderloin, mashed potatoes and green beans were all excellent. Hamburger steak, rolls, strawberry shortcake were decent and acceptable. Price was way below average. Servers stayed busy and were all friendly. Convenient location.

A very nice country style place with very good food and service. I love the fried chicken, catfish, and fried shrimp, come here very often. I would really recommend this to everyone.

Very reasonably priced country cooking. I almost always get the grilled catfish(it has cajun seasoning) plate. I have also ordered the steak & gravy and chicken livers. The Mac and cheese is great, as are the fried okra, green beans, mashed potatoes, and every other item I have ordered. Sometimes the hush puppies are a little overcooked for my taste. The staff is always super friendly and pretty good about being attentive, even when it is crowded. I have never been in for breakfast but lunch and dinner have always been good.

Top notch food and an easy Southern atmosphere. Fried chicken is terrific. Collards extraordinary. If you are impatient like Angela — go to the fast food places nearby. But if you like good home-cooked unpretentious food at ridiculously low prices with nice personable servers — this is your place. Just delicious. See other reviews at Home Town Café on Unilocal — very positive.

If you want home cooking, visit the Hometown Café. I have had both the fried catfish and fried chicken, both were outstanding. Numerous selections for sides, I prefer fried okra and either greens or cucumber salad. While it’s not the fanciest place, the food is what you expect in a family diner. Wait staff is always friendly and food is served hot. Nothing like have authentic Southern tea with your meal,(sweet) not like in the North.

Makes you wish you were raised in the South if your ;) a Yankee like me! My Midwest roots give me a great appreciation for the food you find here! Fired Catfish and tomato and cucumber salad just like my grandmas and grandma made it sooo good! It’s like you just stepped into your Mamas Kitchen… no matter where you come from. I’m just missing a cousin or two to fight over spoon. Not fancy, not expensive… Just Country and Good! So good we did a repeat two days in a row!

We sat for 10 minutes and had to get our own menus and silverware while waitresses waited on others who came in AFTER us. We had to say something and they didn’t even apologize. Food was okay. I’d rather pay more for good food and service.

Good southern cooking in a down home atmosphere. The potato salad is real yellow-mustard potato salad, which says a lot. And it’s good! The atmosphere is very casual. When you come in just be seated and they will come to you.

«You are NOT from around here are you?» They asked us with words and told us with their looks… Country so close to Raleigh! I’m not using a Flash, rarely do… This place is plenty well lit, Tables and low-back Booths VERY Open, almost High School Cafeteriaish looking with a little more Charm! They have Spaghetti with Meat Sauce one day a Week which I can not say much else about it since we were here on the wrong day for me to order… a reason to comeback if I did not already have several! What I liked: Chopped Pork Barbecue had Better flavor than most BBQ Places!!! Smoked Flavor tasted REAL and since my Wife(Girlfriend as I call her) is part Turkish she can almost always spot a fake… Half of this BBQ was saved and reheated for an incredibly enjoyable Breakfast at Home! Hamburger was THICK like a HUGE Meatball that had been very slightly«flattened» in my photos it looks like the burger is sitting in a thin Bun, because the Burger is sooo Thick! Not served very hot, the Flavor was still very nice and for the Price would beat most Burgers in many classes! Collard Greens, Perfectly Cooked!!! Great Flavor! Fried Okra, tasted Fresh and Freshly battered! Fantastic Flavor, one of the Best versions of this dish I have eaten in a Restaurant! Cucumber(spelled Cuke here) and Tomato Salad was not quite as simple as it is in the typical place like this… Chunks of Onion, Vinegar, Pepper, Herbs and a little Sugar… Nice! Corn Muffin with REAL Butter I did add and did add a lot!!! Great Flavor! Hush Puppies… Not quite the almost Donuts I crave and hope for, still very good! Value!!! Much more than we expected for CHEAP!!! Security Advantage!!! We felt VERY Safe! Neighborly People all of the Men and many of the Women had Hand Guns and the appearance of Confidence and Skill to use them if needed! The first and huge deterrent of crime here is the Entire Front of the Restaurant is Glass… The Interior and Exterior is well lit and anyone out or in can see what is going on, OUTside or Inside. Service was Faster than a speeding ticket and MUCH more affordable and enjoyable… Our Order was Accurate and everyone was friendly and wanted to know about me shooting photos. The younger servers understood… The older ones acted as if they might! What I did NOT like: Potato Salad I do NOT like egg in my Potato Salad, nor mayo, though I know that is a common way of making it and some would believe the ONLY way to make… The Pickle Relish used to «flavor» this dish tasted jarred and probably was and took away from what could have been a three star potato salad and made it less enjoyable. Mac and Cheese I do like Egg in my Mac and Cheese, this version had NONE! The Flavor was poor and to make worse was barely warm… mac and Cheese needs to be HOT for me to Fall in LOVE! 11-13-2013 Wednesday Spaghetti with Meat Sauce… Disappointing Flavor(not Quite 3 stars) Well Drained Pasta, perfectly Cooked, and the sauce was THICK just like I like, though the flavor was too lacking for me to order it again!

If you like Southern soul food, Hometown Café is hard to beat. Very good food at ridiculously low prices. No matter what you order, don’t miss the collards or the fried okra!
