Carrol Creek Park reminded me of a mini sized walkway that you would see in European cities like Bilbao. We went here today after Snowpocalypse 2016 and it was serene atmosphere. The residents in the area are friendly and are happy to give visitors directions. It was nice to get out of the city since this week has been a trying one.

Great idea, keep downtown from flooding by building a three channel water management system, then cove two of the three channels up with a linear park, and use it as a way to boost sagging property values. Sadly, after thirty years of planning, design and construction, no one figured out that moving water gathers algae and smells like a dog’s rectum. Thankfully, the recently installed lilies and koi fixed the problem of he smell, despite multi-million dollar condo, commercial real estate keeps dying along the creek. The high poverty rate, homeless, and gang element has not diminished in this part of town. Tourists beware. Despite some design changes to rid the creek of loiters, the homeless and an increase in police presence, crime and drug users still remain clearly in control of the creek. Despite continuous pleas from the local business on the creek, this does not appear to be an issue that will go away soon. The City of Frederick has done a wonderful job at turning the creek into a nice park, but, watch your valuables between 9−11am, 1pm-5pm and anytime after that, and steer clear of the creek after dark unless there is an event with a ton of police presence. Even on a busy Friday night with all the tourists and hipsters, there’s a lot of gangs, drunks, homeless, and thugs along the creek. And, this is coming from someone who has seen three people in the past two months mugged in broad daylight,(including a fellow reporter I work with) countless panhandlers, and other no-good shits.

CCP is the location for Maryland’s annual craft brew festival, which we went to this year. The location is really prime. The water is nice and I just wish I would have known about all the restaurants that line the canal before we ate lunch elsewhere. There are plenty of places to sit in the shade and just relax. Or, you can walk the length of the waterway.
