Great takeout. I love the fried rice and their dumplings but their fried foods are incredibly greasy

Been eating here since I was a little kid grocery shopping with my dad. Best pork lo mein around, and fried rice is really good as well. I’ve always liked this place

We recently moved to the area and we drive by the Hot Wok every day. So we decided to give it a try. I ordered out for delivery and the food came in a reasonable amount of time. The delivery driver was pleasant. The food, however, was not as pleasant. The short cuts taken in the kitchen we apparent as the chicken and a lot of the other ingredients seemed like they had been made in advance and then reused or reheated, not at all fresh. In a word, gross. This theme continued thru the Appetizer and 3 other dishes that we ordered. A complete waste of money. It’s a shame that the food quality so poor. Hot Wok is located in a great West Frederick location that could make for a hot and tasty delivery option. But as far as we are concerned, we will NEVER be ordering from the Hot Wok again.

The good: They deliver, and quickly. They quoted 45 minutes, yet it took under 20. The bad: The food. I’ve given this place a couple tries, and each time the food has been quite horrible. This time around I ordered the shrimp with broccoli along with the cream cheese wontons. The shrimp were very small and looked previously frozen. The broccoli was not cooked well at all, still extremely crunchy. The dish as a whole was very dry with almost no sauce. The cream cheese wontons were as mentioned in a previous review, oddly chewy. I would not recommend this place at all. You’ll have to get in your car, but go to Big Chef’s instead.

I’ve yet to find Chinese delivery that I really, really love in Frederick, but Hot Wok is certainly one of the least impressive spots. We ordered spring rolls, hot and spicy shrimp, chicken lo mein with vegetables, and pepper steak and each item was forgettable or flat out bad. The hot and spicy shrimp was embarrassing; it wasn’t even remotely spicy and, worst of all, the shrimp were obviously frozen and about the size of a nickel. It was more like onion slices served in a slightly sweet, mostly tasteless sauce with a few little tiny shrimp dropped in. The spring rolls were too crispy(not a big deal, really) and bland, the pepper steak had very little flavor at all, and the lo mein offered very little chicken. It was just appalling how little flavor each dish had. We may as well have eaten pieces of rubber and cardboard over rice. To make matters worse, they took my credit card number when I placed my order, then when the driver arrived he had no idea I was paying with a card, so I had to wait while he ran and got his 1994-style card swipe. Then, about 30 minutes later, I started getting inundated from various unknown numbers before the driver finally returned to tell me that my card didn’t work(I’ve used it since, so I don’t know what the problem was). I gave him another card, he called it in, and it worked. I’m not sure what happened with the initial card information I gave them, but shouldn’t they have run it the same way they did when the driver called it in later? It was a huge inconvenience; it’s 2012, paying with a credit card should be easy.

This place was good when they opened as one of the first shops in the center back in 1987, but the food is crap, was crap then, still is crap when I ate there last week on a whim. The orange chicken had zero taste. My sidekick got the chicken and cashews which was bland. I actually miss and would say this food actually needs MSG! Even the fortune cookies were stale. I can’t even be bothered to write a detailed review of this place it was so flavorless!

I decided to leave my comfort zone, and give this place a try. Reviews that I’ve found have been favorable… Well, I just had the most tasteless Singapore noodles in the history of noodles. I may try them again, and order a more basic dish, but when it comes to Singapore noodles, I’ll stick with Lucky Corner.

As far as takeout Chinese in Frederick goes, this place is definitely worth checking out. They are friendly, fast, inexpensive and dependable. They take credit cards, don’t balk at special orders and(gasp!) give accurate time estimates for delivery. We’ve tried a limited selection of their food(including Fried Pork Dumplings, General Tso’s Shrimp, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice) but everything has been excellent and highly recommendable. They delivered enormous shrimp, very tasty chicken, and delicious sauces with no cop-outs such as excessive vegetables, breading or liquid. Everything has always arrived fresh and hot. My only complaint is that their packaging could be a little better — saucy items can leak from the microwave-unsafe containers they use. Prepare to wash your hands after handling your order. The bottom line is that Hot Wok’s food pleases my whole family… a tall order indeed!
