This place was great. I was a little suprised by the«pizza,» but I ended up regretting that I only got a small. The Rafi platter, which was eggplant Ptarmigan and house made noodle, was fantastically cooked with the house made marinara sauce having the perfect balance of acidity and sweet which brought the whole dish together. Lastly was the tiramisu. Such a sweet and creamy dish. I can be a bit of a snob when it come to tiramisu but this one goes down as one of the good ones. All in all, this placed doesn’t deserve the flack it’s been getting from others. The maker of Nido’s has done it again with Rafi.

Went there tonight for dinner with two friends. First of all, the bread was so plain(was not real Italian bread). It was served with a substitute butter which was called a spread(which is all artificial). The olive oil on the table was not real olive oil. I think it was water with yellow coloring. I had eggplant parm with sausage. The eggplant had no taste and the sausage was rubbery. The tomato sauce also was not very good. Needless to say, I will not be going back. I just moved here from NY/NJ so I know real Italian food and this was not it.

Expecting better but was disappointed. Bread was served with«buttery spread»…not acceptable. Requested REAL butter. Salad was not dressed and oil on the table was low quality and did not taste like olive oil at all. No balsamic vinegar available either. I found the baby clams linguine to be mediocore. Will not return.

I was really excited to have a new restaurant in the immediate neighborhood so I stopped in to get some takeout for lunch. An older man whom I assume is the owner or manager was very nice and offered me a table to sit and wait for my order. I ordered a sausage sandwich for myself and the chicken fettuccine Alfredo for the bf. My sandwich was smaller than expected but it was on the appetizer menu so I knew it wouldn’t come with a side. It was pretty good though I was still hungry after lol. One thing is, I asked the owner if they put peppers and onions on the sandwich and he said no because they don’t have a fryer. Yet sausage with peppers and onions is on the menu as an entrée. The fettuccine was terrible. Completely bland so maybe it was just as well that I was given a tiny portion. Look at the photo I posted– I didn’t expect a giant Cheesecake Factory helping but I think this was too little food. Especially since when I got home I realized I was charged the dinner price even though I was there at 1:30 pm. And the meal didn’t even come with a side salad or a measly piece of bread! Definitely not worth $ 16. If they can’t get a staple like Alfredo right, I’m not sure I’ll be trying Rafi’s again anytime soon.

Rafi is the new Italian restaurant opened by the former owner of Nidos(Ralph) in downtown Frederick. If you liked the old place and are longing for that white pizza and white beans just the way you remember, look no more. He has the same menu prepared the same way we fondly remember. There was an article in the local paper this week announcing his new place and Ralph told me that 99% Percent of the customers tonight were old customers that had seen the article. A packed house with good reason. Go enjoy, we sure did.
