South Mountain Welcome Center Rest Area

These recently remodeled rest areas (one each, east– and west-​bound) are the perfect place to get a quick rest, break or stretch. Located about an hour and a half outside of DC, they are clean, well-​kept and always busy. Learn more about Maryland in the small display area. Have kids or a pet? There’s lots of playground and green space to be found. Three separate parking/​pull off areas: trucks go one direction and cars another, with a small pull off area for quick driver changes in the middle.
