This place is fantastic. They don’t deliver to our neighborhood but the food is so good and the employees are super nice. It’s a little more expensive than other places I’ve gone to in the past but it’s worth it. I’m really glad that we found Hunan Garden, it’s our go to when we don’t feel like making dinner.

You need to know their wontons are fresh. It’s a game changer. Fried or in soup they are amazing and light. The specials are Huge and the service is great. Wonderful family business. Support support support this place

It’s not that the food at Hunan Garden is bad per se, I just think the quality isn’t up to par. I’ve ordered a number of times from this place and the food seems to either be wet or excessively wet and overall lacks flavor. I’ve ordered multiple times because despite my judgments on food, I look at so many high ratings and figure maybe it’s the specific dish on that specific day and it’s just a fluke. My experience with Hunan Garden is similar to my experience with candy corn as a child. Everyone raved about it, but when I tasted candy corn, it tasted like wax dipped in sugar. Sure enough the next year I’d try again thinking maybe I just had bad candy corn, but once again it tasted as terrible as the year before. Hunan Garden’s food is never nearly that bad. However the food isn’t 5-star or 4-star material. I also get the feeling that the scores are a little inflated. Considering that downtown Fredericksburg is known for local and high-quality restaurants, I believe there’s a subconscious feeling for many folks that Hunan Garden’s food is at a much higher quality than other Chinese places, which it isn’t. The friends I have that rave about Hunan Garden are typically hard to take to ethnic restaurants in general. However, what it lacks in food quality and flavor, it excels in service. It’s one of the few Chinese places that have online ordering; I’ve never run into an issue where delivery is late or the order is missing anything. The folks working at Hunan Garden are also some of the most welcoming folks I’ve met when it comes to Chinese restaurants. Most other places tend to scare folks off. Bottom line: If you’re looking for a rather welcoming Chinese restaurant that has decent food, Hunan Garden is a decent-enough choice, especially if it’s a group of people. If you really want high-quality Chinese food, there are better places in Fredericksburg.

Honestly if you generally expect mediocre Chinese food when you go to a Chinese restaurant then this is what this restaurant serves. This is not really a Chinese restaurant but more like an American-Chinese restaurant. I’ve ordered from this Hunan Garden several times because even though it is bad Chinese food it is Chinese food that will satisfy your craving. The reason I give them a 2 star is because one, their rice always has a weird taste to it and their meat is pretty poor quality and two, eating in is just pathetic. They do not have real plates, cups, or silverware so if you are trying to take someone on a date there I hope that like Styrofoam and plastic.

Amazing shrimp and broccoli. Quick and easy delivery. If you order the food spicy, expect it to be unbearable but you’ll just keep eating because it’s so yummy lol.

What would’ve been a 3-star review got bumped up an extra star because of their outstanding service! I ordered Chicken Chow Mein, as I was craving the crispy rice noodle dish I’ve had on the West coast in the past… But what I received was vegetables(seemingly onions & bok choy) in a pasty-looking greyish sauce with a side of crispy wonton noodles??? So, I called the restaurant to inquire and, apparently, «chow mein» means something totally different on the East coast. Nonetheless, the woman who answered the phone apologized for the confusion, since there was no description on the menu, and offered to exchange my entrée with something comparable. The same driver then returned very quickly with the replacement(Chicken Lo Mein) and was just as apologetic and polite. Because this was our first time ordering from this restaurant, we also tried out their shrimp roll(ample petite shrimp), cheese steak roll(decent mix of meat & cheese), and crab rangoon(crispy w/lots of crab). We thought all 3 were okay but don’t think they’ll make it into the regular rotation. If you’re looking for good Chinese delivery with great service, I’d recommend Hunan Garden.

I read that they had really good hot and sour soup. I didn’t realize this place was just a dump that does takeout. The soup lacked vinegar and had a gelatinous texture that I didn’t like.

The food was great and they catered to my specific needs. The Hot and Sour soup was the best I’ve had in a long time. I got the Curry Chicken with steamed veggies. My husband got General To chicken and loved it as well. We will be back.

Hunan Garden is a fantastic Chinese Restaurant. We order out several times a month, and it never disappoints. The only thing I don’t like is their beef-fried rice, but that is not saying it tastes bad; it tastes good but I’ve had better. Regardless, this is a great takeout restaurant, with a few small tables inside to accommodate eat-in.

This place gets an honest four stars. A few mixed reviews… but I’m going to tell it like it is. The prices, quality and portions here are excellent. I would definitely come back. Everything looked fresh and well presented… the picture I posted of the General Tso Chicken speaks for itself. I’d definitely come back next time I happen to be in Freddy Vegas.

What happen with the BEEF? I ordered Beef Egg Foo Young and got an unfamiliar texture in my food. As I got through the mouth full I did an autopsy of my order and saw that what was suppose to be beef was something other than that. Hunan, what have you done? Anyone else out there experience any oddies in there food?. Please order with caution folks. Too bad though this used to be my favorite place for Chinese food and unfortunately there aren’t many in the Fredericksburg Va area. Fortune Gourmet is another disappointment.

Got delivery from here a couple times and have been extremely satisfied. Delivery has been very fast, food is still hot, and it’s very tasty. General tso and crab Rangoon every time. And the lunch special is dirt cheap. Really can’t beat it. My friend and I each got a big entrée with 2 spring rolls and soup, AND crab Rangoon for $ 19.78 or something like that. Crazy. Love this place!

Spareribs were delicious. Finger licking yummy. Beef w snow peas… where’s the beef? Tons of snow please, carrots, and bamboo shoots but shy on the beef. Sauce was bland too. Also got to hotel w no plasticware. Guess I should have paid better attention to the self service forks at the counter. Lovely, sweet, personable young girl waited on me. And I enjoyed the free hot tea while you wait.

Best Chinese food by far in The Burg. Their homemade mustard is really good, as are their spring rolls, egg foo young, fried rice, etc. General Tso’s is more chicken than breading and is a family favorite.

Absolutely GREAT food. Very reasonably priced. Very pleased with being able to tell they have FRESH food. Not frozen. Their dinner combos cannot be beat. You get an entrée, fried rice, egg rolls AND soup all for under 10 $. All in all it was delicious and we will order again! I really enjoyed this place! My husband and I ordered out for delivery. Decently timed delivery. I LOVED the fact that the delivery guy could accept cash or credit in person. Shows preparedness from a business stand point.

I’ve ordered from them before and it’s been fine, given our limited orders. Last night’s food, though, was nasty. The ribs were old and dried out, dunked into some red sauce to make them seem fresher. The dumplings were doughy, and the rice very starchy and shiny. The worst, though, was the $ 9.50 Mongolian beef — there was barely enough meat for one, had we wanted to eat it — the pan was full of onions and scallions, and the meat didn’t taste like beef — old and gnarly shoes, maybe. They charge $ 1 for delivery five blocks away. I cannot imagine ever eating food from here again. $ 40. down the drain — a bad memory.

Coco, the manager, has co-owned and run this local restaurant with her husband for the past seven years. Their food consistently beats similar takeout joints in the area. No MSG. No nasty buffet that sits under heat lamps all day. All the egg rolls, spring rolls, and dumplings are hand rolled. The meats and veggies come in fresh.(With the exception of the chicken nugget and French fries option, but… come on.) Coco’s favorite is the pork lo mein, another frequent favorite is the seasonal scallion pancake appetizer or chicken in garlic sauce entre. My mom and I love the crispy eggplant. Their vegetarian soups are made fresh to order and always do the trick. The restaurant is small(6 tables!), so takeout is often easier, especially around peak dining hours. Hunan offers«college specials» that are cheaper than the dinner combo for students on a budget with a full appetite! There are over a hundred menu items, so if you don’t know what to get, just ask for suggestions! Staff is friendly and well acquainted with the dishes, and there is truly something for everyone. Ps: not sure what some of the tips on this page are talking about. I’ve lived in Downtown Fredericksburg my whole life, and Hunan is locally known as the best of the best.
