So baby, let’s sell your diamond ring Buy some boots and faded jeans and go away This coat and tie is choking me In your high society you cry all day We’ve been so busy keepin’ up with the Jones Four car garage and we’re still building on Maybe it’s time we got back to the basics of love Let’s go to Luckenbach, Texas Out in Luckenbach, Texas ain’t nobody feelin’ no pain (Waylon Jennings — Luckenbach, Texas) I’ve loved that song forever, and yesterday I got to visit Luckenbach Texas! It’s not much to look at really, just a post office, a general store, a saloon, and a big dance hall. But what it represents is a whole lot more. Back to the basics indeed– freedom, music, cold cans of beer, Willie Nelson’s 4th of July picnic, motorcycles, free spirits, Texas and America.

If you are thinking about having a wedding or wedding like activity here, run as far away as you can as fast as you can possibly run. Bobbi and the entire staff at Luckenbach were rude, unorganized, and all in all terrible for our rehearsal dinner. Though we made plans over a year in advance, paid our fees, and had a contract with them to host our rehearsal dinner there, they contacted my fiancé the night before the dinner and told us it would be an additional $ 15 a head on top of the deposit, rental fee, and bar tab that we had already paid. Being that we had about 100 people coming 12 hours obviously wasn’t enough notice to switch venues so we were stuck with an addition $ 1,500 tab on top of what we had already paid. The actual night of the event was even worse. When our photographer arrived she was told there was no event that evening, when other guests arrived they were told that they had missed the wedding and they should go home. When Luckenbachs computer stopped working in the middle of the night they told our guests they could no longer honor our prepaid tab. In the midst of all this the manager Bobbi was incredibly rude and dismissive to both my husband and I(then fiancé). Seriously to all the brides out there, this was the worst experience ever, don’t do it!!!

Had fun but keep in mind the entertainment can really vary. It’s cash only at the bar & really only a couple buildings that are accessible. Would come back for the«novelty» of the place but not to just hang out.

Laid back place. Nice to take pictures at and buy a shirt, they had live music but the singer didn’t sound very good. I liked visiting this place but I feel like they need to open up more small building in that area!

REALLY??? Leave most of the advance ticket holders to the Los Lobos and Los Texmaniacs show last Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016 standing outside in the cold from 6:30 — 8:00, with none of the standing heaters turned on? There were a few«VIP» tickets sold, and they were allowed in when«the doors opened at 6:30». They were seated and warm(er) — no windows were ever closed — while the majority of the ticket holders stood outside and shivered. You’d think the owners would have realized how much beer and food could have been sold to seated customers. As it was, when we were finally allowed inside, everyone was ANNOYED. Some even left. VERY poor management. You need to clean house!

Just a very cool place with an amazing vibe. Who hasn’t at least thought this place would be a cool place to visit? Well it is. Cool store, decent food, cold beer. The highlight is just the small ‘town’ in the loop. Do yourself a favor and just stop by and see what its all about.

Love this little town for events, it’s great during Harvest Classic, they have camping, music, movies, and trials. The town is super tiny and famous thanks for Willie Nelson. They have a little food shop, a bar, and a post office, as well as a dance hall that events could be held at. You can get there through the dirt road or the round about way on a paved road. The bar has super cute kitties in there that are residents.

What a money grubbing disaster they have turned this into. Tore down all the trees and make you pay money to spend money.

I’ve been for Willie’s 4th of July picnic with a million other people, I’ve been for concerts in the dance hall when it was freezing outside and I’ve been on a random Monday when the weather was nice and I was in the mood for a drive. I have to say the random trips might be my favorite. There is almost always someone with a guitar playing some tunes or we’ve taken cards and dominoes and enjoyed the surroundings and conversation. Check their website their event calendar is usually up to date. It doesn’t matter when you go, it’s always worth the trip. The beers are cold, the staff is always friendly, the food is good(on the weekends or events), and the people you’ll meet there are always the most fun ever.

Live band, beer and roosters. Great hang-out. The poppers are yummy! Varied crowd, from families, bikers to weekend warriors. Check-out the creek nearby. The original bar has some great motif as well as the gift shop. Lots of cool«old stuff».

«Let’s go to Luckenbach, Texas With Willie and Waylon and the boys This successful life we’re livin’ Got us feuding like the Hatfields and McCoys Between Hank Williams pain songs And Jerry Jeff’s train songs And blue eyes cryin’ in the rain Out in Luckenbach, Texas There ain’t nobody feelin’ no pain» — Waylon Jennings Build it and they will come… since 1850. And you NEVER know who. On any given day Willie might pop in the small bar at the back of the general store and pick and sing with the locals. And then there’s the Dance Hall with scheduled acts. Lots of outdoor space including picnic tables, fire pits, and the Luckenbach Feed Lot — a small walk-up eatery that serves up pulled pork sandies, corn dogs, funnel cakes, and the likes. The General Store offers a good variety of western items and loads of souvenirs. What D.O.G. doesn’t need a L, T bandana? Of course it’s a small town — what did people expect?! Not everything is bigger in Texas and Luckenbach is just fine the way it is. It is such a treasure BECAUSE it hasn’t changed in so many years. Tons of history and great memorabilia to explore. Not much to add about this legendary Texas locale, except to say that if you’re in the area be sure to stop by and check it out. It’s a very short trip from historical, German-esque, wine and winery filled Fredericksburg and only a little over an hour drive away from Austin(depending on where you live) so you can make a day of it, or perhaps an addition to a weekend getaway in F*Burg. Either way, squeeze your way into the bar, order a can of cold beer(cash only; ATM on-site), and reeelaaax. Just take it all in and listen to the country crooners do their thing inside the small bar area or on the backyard stage. This is real. This is Texas. Luchenbach is not just a destination… it’s an experience. A truly memorable one. [137 in 2015]

Wonderful hidden gem that delivers much more than expected, I was genuinely surprised by the rustic charm of the music venue and overall vibe. Not sure how I missed Luckenbach was more than a post office people got their picture taken in front of(including us) but glad we stopped by on our way home. It was pushing mid-90s late afternoon but the old, beautiful trees shaded the area and picnic tables well, and were complimented by ice cold beer that was sold from a small bar. The musicians were talented folk type singer songwriters. From the sound of the MC, it’s not uncommon for musicians to play during the touristy part of summer. I highly recommend stopping by for an enjoyable break on your journeys.

Let’s go to Luckenbach, Texas! This place is heaven on earth. An amazingly idyllic scene in the Texas hill country that allows you to relax, have a cold one, and hear some country and western music out under the giant oak trees behind the post office. Before Luckenbach, I’d never bought a beer at the post office before, but now I can check that off my bucket list. People come from all over to this place. It’s like Mecca for Lone Star Beer drinkers. You must make the pilgrimage. Every time I’ve been, there has been live music and cold beers. It’s a great place for bikers to stop. It’s a fantastic drive from the wineries, and a simply serene setting. Beers are cheap, and sometimes they have food. The gift shop is worth checking out, as they have all kinds of Willie and Waylon and Luckenbach branded merch. If you get a chance to check out the dance hall, do it! It’s a beautiful old wooden structure that has withstood the test of time. So many boots have scooted across those floors. It’s hallowed ground. This used to be the site of the Willie Nelson 4th of July Picnic, but they’re not doing it there anymore, which is a shame.

This is the place you go to get away from work, cleaning, laundry, school activities, and anything else that is draining your soul of the life you deserve. I don’t know why I’ve waited 13 years of living in San Antonio to get here!!!

If your a Texan and haven’t been to Luckenbach, shame on you. A laid back retreat out in the middle of nowhere. The old post office is now mostly a gift shop, and of course I bought some stuff. I love my Luckenbach coffee mug! We spent the afternoon drinking a few cold ones and listening to music. So much fun. Of course, there is the dance hall and food. Check the website for what’s going on and when. You wont regret it!

I had so much fun on my first ever visit to Luckenbach Texas! Everyone was very friendly and happy hour was very cheap. Got to sit and enjoy live music and relax taking in the beautiful weather. It wasn’t too busy and I look forward to returning and getting a feel for the place in full swing.

I was actually blind going into this and I must admit that I was very surprised. Luckenbach is an old Texas rural township. If you blink you will miss it. And trust me, you don’t want to miss it. In the towns day it had a general store that also operated as the post office. The had a feed store and water well to fill your water thermos. It is listed in the State of Texas Historic Places book. If you like traveling the back roads of Texas I highly recommend you get the book. The general store still operates as a general store selling various t shirts, candy and other souvenirs. The rear of the store operates as a bar with a variety of beers. The weekends you can count on various bands from local to some well known bands. They also have a dance hall for those of you who want to do some Texas two stepping. If you’re traveling with a motor home or travel trailer don’t worry cause they have a place for you. I know that people spend the weekend hanging out all weekend in the lot for RVs. No hookups so bring your generator.

Luckenbach is one of those quirky little blips on the map that really doesn’t have much to it, yet is still enjoyable to visit. Half the charm of the place for me lies in how isolated the place is, yet how popular it is. You’ve got an old post office which has transormed into a crowded gift shop, some fried/fast food, and lots of cheap beer and some country music. Oh, and roosters that may or may not be in the trees. They’ve got live music every day of the week so you’re sure to have something to listen to as you relax under the Live Oak trees and sip on a cold beer. Good people watching too. Definitely a worthwhile visit to spend a couple hours relaxing with some music and drinks.

A fun place to visit, even if you aren’t going for a concert or music event. It’s a cool place to see, and the staff is super friendly. They’ve got plenty of souvenirs to buy, with something for all age ranges. There’s a bar in back with plenty of tables outside(inside seating seemed limited). At least on the day we visited, they had a musician playing a good mix of original songs and covers. There’s not much there to keep the kids entertained, other than the chickens, but bring them an iPad or similar and you’re good to go. If you’re on a bike ride, it’s a must stop on a tour of The Hill Country.

As someone who just became an official Texas resident this week, I feel this visit to Luckenbach really put the icing on the cake. If friends hadn’t guided us here we would never have known it existed — but now that we do, we’ll certainly go back. The xeroxed history I found on a shelf tells me the place was started in 1849 as a trading post, and you can still buy a few touristy odds and ends there, along with cold beer and sodas in the saloon. Another building serves pulled pork and funnel cake, and of course the largest building is the dance hall. I counted half a dozen well fed cats munching or dozing on counters or benches around the place, and of course someone was pickin’ and singin’ in the saloon. As a sometimes-country music fan, I was of course familiar with Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson’s «Luckenback Texas(Back to Basics)» — but it never dawned on me that(a) there was a Real Thing and(b) some day I’d be living near it! I love the description in the history of Luckenback being«the center of the known universe, a place where everybody is truly somebody.»
