So yummy, the only doughnut place I have every liked! The chocolate covered and oreo doughnuts are so amazing and everything is priced well! They run out of the best doughnut flavors by 11 – 12 in the afternoon so that’s a little annoying but if you order ahead you can obviously pick them up whenever. But you can’t order a simple cake with less than two days notice anymore. I literally just wanted a cake that said happy birthday, the last there years they were able to prepare this simple 12 inch cake with a single days notice. They prepare chocolate and vanilla cakes for random pick up daily and used to just throw words on it if you wanted the day of but not anymore! In the future I will order with further notice.

I really look forward to going to Paul’s Bakery, as do my children. Their pies, rolls, donuts, and coffee are all really exceptional. TRYTHEBROWNIES! I cannot wait to try their cakes.

I came in around noon and got me a dozen mixed donuts. Each and everyone of them were very tasty! Move over Krispy Kreme, i found me a new spot. Wish this place was closer to where I live, but this is definitely worth the drive to get awesome donuts. $ 10 a dozen, you can’t go wrong with that. You get half a dozen for free later in the evening, I guess it makes sense since they want to get rid of any remaining donuts before closing time. Definitely will be back for more!

My first time in here since I am from out of town and my buddy brought me in here to grab some donuts for my drive into work. I wanted two donuts and walked out with a dozen assorted. The staff was really friendly and the donuts were off the charts good! Loved the regular glazed, the vanilla sprinkles and the glazed buttercream! I will be back.

The hubs and I were in the area, and after a meal, I said that we needed another dessert: P I was excited to check out Paul’s Bakery, as I’ve had this doughnut place on my list for quite some time. This place has been around since ’73, family-owned and –operated, and besides offering old-fashioned doughnuts, they also have pastries, brownies, custom-order sheet cakes, cinnamon rolls, cupcakes, pies, and packaged cookies. They currently have a ‘Buy 12, get ½ a dozen free,’ so, of course, I went out of town. I got: a Glazed Sour Cream, a Maple Sour Cream, a Glazed Devil’s Food, a Glazed Ring, a Honeybun, a Maple, a Maple Bacon, a Maple Nut, a Coconut, an Oreo, a Glazed Twist, a Glazed Buttercream, a Glazed Apple, a Glazed Blueberry, a Blueberry, a Glazed Cherry, a Glazed Lemon, and a Glazed Strawberry. These doughnuts were fresh and yummy, and my favorites so far is the Maple Sour Cream(dense and cake-like, with a great maple taste), the Blueberry(slightly cake-y with a heavy blueberry taste!), and the Glazed Ring(soft and yeasty). Maven, who assisted us, was so sweet and offered customer favorites as well as favorites of her own. The place is popular with the locals and the long-time customers; I’ll definitely be back! :D +fresh old-fashioned doughnuts: D +buy a dozen, get ½ dozen free! :D +ask for Maven: D +plenty of parking in shared lot

The only thing I have ever had here would be their cake donuts, because they’re so good I can’t bear to have anything else! I have had the blueberry cake donut and the Red velvet cake donut — my absolute favorite donut of all time! The only thing that could have made the red velvet cake donut even more perfect would have been a cream cheese icing drizzle on top! The blueberry was a little more sweet than I would have liked it to be, but still fantastic.

If I lived nearby, I would be there at least twice a week. The donuts and staff were 5 stars. Good stuff…

Paul’s Bakery isn’t bad but it’s not Krispy Kreme. My coworkers swear by this place. I came here on Valentine’s Day because they were offering free Red Velvet Donuts. I got the Red Velvet and I also got the regular glazed and a glazed donut with chocolate and sprinkles. They were all ok. My fiancé wasn’t super impressed either. I may stop by and try more flavors as Valentines Day was my first time trying then. I’ll stop by at least one more time and try the other flavors and see if any are better than the ones we had.

OMG such good donuts. I am not from the area and my company ordered a few boxes of donuts from here and I was really impressed. So moist and flavorful, nothing ordinary about them at all. I tried the blueberry glazed and the glazed sour cream. So so good. I am not even a donut person and it was hard for me not to eat all of these up. Highly recommend their donuts.

I am not a fan of donuts or any kind of sweets for that matter but a friend recommended this place so I took my kids and parents for a little treat. I was blown away by the incredible service and presentation of their baked goods. I walked in for a couple donuts and walked out with over a dozen, some bread and a pie! This is one of those places that if you haven’t been then you’ve never experienced what baked goods should taste like! I’ve never been so impressed!

Since moving to Fredericksburg in May of this year, we’ve picked up donuts here now several times and never had a bad experience — and they were fresh, regardless of what time of day we dropped in. I noticed a few folks complaining about the level of service and lack of friendliness — well, I suspect they were showing up there mid-afternoon because by then these folks have been been up and at work for probably 10 – 12 hours — I’m not sure I’d be bushy tailed after that either — but not once have I been there that I was not greeted with a smile and friendly attitude and patient service while we ogled the goods — the pressure to make a decision really comes from those behind you in line. The Sour Cream donuts are the best IMO — but I’m sure the others are very good. Sour Cream donuts can be difficult to find at some bakeries and Paul’s makes several variations. AND they have a Maple Bacon donut that might work for most but I was underwhelmed — I love donuts and I love bacon but not sure the two should be piled on each other, especially with a maple flavor(now CHOCOLATE, I’d try!). Other’s I’m sure would disagree. Prices are reasonable and about what you’d expect for donuts but the cakes seem fairly pricey — as does the bread, limited selection. Have not tried either of those. Old fashioned bakeries are increasingly disappearing from the map so we’re lucky to have one — it’s either Paul’s or Wal-Mart(or Entemanns) — I chose Paul’s.

Thank you, Unilocalers, for pointing me to this fantastic donut shop. My friend and I came two hours before closing so we missed out on the gourmet donuts(maple bacon and cronuts), but we still got to try some of Paul’s other offerings. We each ordered a half dozen and filled our boxes with a mix of glazed and filled donuts. For me, I got the coconut, original glazed(2), chocolate custard and cinnamon hole. Their original glazed donut is very similar to Krispy Kreme, which is a good thing. Despite coming later in the day, everything still seemed very fresh. Many of the most popular items had sold out long before our arrival. In addition to enjoying their donuts, I was pleased to find the shop workers very sweet and accommodating. Paul’s also has southern Virginia prices, which is great. Definitely worth stopping by in if you’re in the area.
