While they were out of some food items when we were there(father’s day) we managed to find 2 delicious sandwiches — the burger and the blackened catfish po’boy. Highly recommend both. Also enjoyed their Lauk’s Island IPA and Solar Eclipse while my sweetheart enjoyed the lavender lemonade(vodka cocktail). We recommend Spencer-Devon to anyone heading to Fredericksburg!

Well it’s Father’s Day and this place ruined my day. I live in the local Fredericksburg area and was told to go here for brunch, got there at 10:26am and was told that it would be an hour. Well we said we would wander around and wait for the table. It’s myself, my wife and my two small children… We waited for 50 minutes and were then called and told they wouldn’t be able to seat is till 1:30pm. Wow, thanks for that. Could have gone somewhere else while we waited. I hung up the phone pissed. I decided to call back and talk to the manager. Well when a customer calls you back and is upset you should not get emotional as well, you should calmly try to make the situation better. Telling me to come there and sit and wait longer isn’t the best answer. Telling me they will do everything in their power to seat us as soon as possible would have been the best way to handle a customer. Well you have successfully ruined my day, I’ll now try and figure out somewhere to take my starving children. To all my local friends, GOSOMEWHEREELSE… This place could care less about their customers. But don’t worry I’ll share on Facebook and let everyone know…

Wife and I had the burgers which were excellent. Cooked perfectly just as we ordered, the meat was very good and the potato salad was obviously made from scratch. My daughter had the chilled avocado soup which was also very good. Our server was very attentive and while the atmosphere is very basic, the overall value was outstanding with great beer and great food at a reasonable price. I love the fact that Fredericksburg has so many great choices. We will definitely return again and again as long as the quality remains this good.

Went here last Friday with my boyfriend. I ordered the Lilah Hibiscus Wiess for my beverage, which was a pink/purple beer with a slightly tart undertone. The color of the beer makes it look odd, but tasted delicious and refreshing. For an appetizer we ordered the hot crab dip with naan slices. The dip was very good, lots of crab meat with a slightly spicy kick! I only wish there had been more naan because we ended up with a lot of dip left over. I ended up taking the rest of the dip home and used it with pita chips. For my entrée I order the lamb burger with a side of fries. The burger was average, but the fries were excellent. Definitely would come back here again to try more of their beers.

The beer here is cheap and flavorful(3 bucks a pint). We had a party of 12 at the bar and it was fine ! Need to come back to try the food, but bar wise, this place is spot on.

Great beer, great food, great service! I visited on an early Friday night and couldn’t be more impressed. They’ve got a good selection of quality microbrews with a unique menu. I had the Belgian Blonde, which was perfect and the chicken Philly. I sat at the bar and the service was excellent. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town.

Stopping at Spencer Devon, for an early Saturday afternoon dinner, was a great decision. Not too crowded, but plenty busy, a table by the window provided just the right atmosphere in this brewery restaurant. The Reuben Egg rolls hit on all cylinders: Crunchy fried wonton, Creamy Swiss cheese, Salty lean shredded corned beef, Tangy sauerkraut, with Sweet thousand island sauce. Amazing combination! The Pork Meatball Bahn Mi was very good. The meatball was the star of the sandwich, fresh and not overly seasoned. The topping of julienned jalapeños, noc chon, daikon, cilantro, green onions, cucumbers and carrots provided a crisp, sweet, tangy and refreshing accompaniment to the meatballs. The roll was good, but seemed almost too big. For dessert, the Honey Lavender Crème Brûlée was a creamy, crunchy blend of remarkable flavor. Topped with fresh berries, the dessert and perfect French Press Coffee was exactly the right combination. Finally, I must say that the service(thanks Amanda) was excellent! She mad great recommendations and was super-attentive. This is certainly a place you should take time to when in downtown Fredericksburg.

I can only speak for two food item menus, but I have no choice but to leave 5 stars based on: — The taste and freshness of those dishes — The quality and variety of beer — The incredible friendliness of the staff Amanda was a startender. Incredibly nice and made baller recommendations, including the Earth’s Echo Chicken Doro Wat(Ethiopian chicken stew in a mild red curry sauce with naan bread). Very tasty. Not the largest entrée, but very reasonably filling and priced at $ 15. While Amanda is not a fan of seafood, I went with the Low Country She Crab Soup at the advice of Steve S. Delicious, and it packed a nice dosage of heat. If you’re like me and can’t decide which beer to order, do yourself a favor and get the flights. That’s why they have them. 46 oz. drafts for $ 11 or 66 oz. drafts for $ 15. Also very reasonably priced. I’m looking forward to my next trip to Fredericksburg. Rest assured this will be my first stop so I can try more of the menu.

The beer is good and the food was good, but for the price I could go somewhere else. The customer service was great, but the cost didn’t justify another visit.

Was in the area for our Virginia honeymoon. We needed to kill some time during a raining afternoon and stumbled onto this brewery. Had some beers and some muscles. The muscles were average at best. However the beer was awesome. So many new small breweries are pumping out slop and getting high marks for it. This place does it right. Try the west coast IPA, you wont be disappointed.

We stopped by for a beer or two and some food. So glad we did. The beer was quite tasty(and good deals for happy hour). I like that they have choices with normal ABV’s. I enjoyed the witbier and the saison. The bartender was good and the owner is a super nice guy. I like that the menu is not huge and seems to focus on local ingredients. The pimento cheese fries were good. I really liked the chicken philly. I wish we had time to go for brunch as that menu looked so good. Overall great place!

Live music and a nice beer selection make this more than just another brewery. The selection has a nice range including West Coast style IPA, Porter, and more malty Belgian and German inspired brews. The service wasn’t overly friendly, but ok. The beer was tasty and pretty memorable for a small brewery. The APA was nice and subtly hoppy without being a hop first punch to the face. It gets quite crowded at night, so grab a table or a spot at the bar early.

Definitely get a beer flight, you can do four or six 6 ounce pours and you can try all the beers that way! The Spotswood Berliner Weisse was a sour beer and it was delicious, they have housemade fruit syrups that can enhance the flavor. We were getting ready to leave when I mentioned I liked that beer and the bartender made me a little sample with the blueberry syrup so I could try it which was great because now I’ll definitely come back for it, sort of a beer cocktail. Beers are $ 2 off on happy hour and on Sundays. The bartenders were efficient and helpful. Great craft brewery in downtown Fredricksburg with high ceilings, an open layout and good view of the kettles. The bartender asked our names in the beginning and adressed us by them when he said goodbye, always a nice touch.

Haven’t been to downtown Fredericksburg in a few years but was pleasantly surprised to see how much it’s improved and if I’m not mistaken this is the old Fatty J’s bar I used to come to like 10 years ago. So happy it’s an awesome Brewery with delicious food. Came here with some friends to enjoy some beer and eat lunch. I ordered a flight of beer which was an assortment of IPAs and a stout which were all very god and highly enjoyed them. I ordered the crab soup which is a must whenever I go back to VA crab must be in something I order. The soup was so flavorful and had tones of crab meat in it, I was very pleased! Lots of seating inside and very well built. Service was very nice and attentive. My friends also loved the food that try ordered. Like this place!

I’m slowly becoming infatuated with the Fredericksburg, VA area. Been down here for a few college visits and a few times for work. I don’t know if this is where my daughter will end up, but if she does I know I will never be without great places to eat. So, on a recent visit, while my daughter was at a field hockey clinic my son and I needed to eat and I was in the mood for a good beer. I decided a good brew pub was what we needed and Spencer Devon Brewing was close. After a few minutes waiting we were seated with our menus and I quickly discovered that this isn’t your normal brew pub with normal bar food. I asked the waitress and she said they change the menu every three months and the chef was someone who had formerly owned his own place. The stuff on the menu looked delicious, but was far from just bar food( ) I decided to start with She Crab soup, one of my favorites, and it was amazing. Lots of flavor and lots of crab. My son, who says he doesn’t like crab and who I tricked into tasting it, even liked it… though he turned up his nose a bit after I told him what it was… Typical 14-year old picky eater. I also decided on a 4 beer flight — Sunken Road Belgian Blonde(very nice lots of flavor for a blonde), Fighting 69th Irish Stout(best of the four… I could drink this all the time-earthy thick flavor), Katina Black IPA(usually don’t like IPAs, but this wasn’t too hoppy and had a dark edge to it) and the Chimney’s Wee Heavy(strong smokey flavor. Would pair nice with a burger I think.) My son ordered the Classic burger and fries. The burger came with a special sauce and a bacon jam… and he was skeptical, but after his first bite he was sold and left nothing on the plate I always tell my kids to ‘try something new’ so my son threw it back at me and I had to take the challenge. I ordered the Earth’s Echo Chicken Doro Wat. Ethiopian chicken stew with Naan. Say WHAT!!! Yeah, in a brew pub. I made one huge, giant mistake when I ordered… you see, if there’s one thing I hate, despise, and absolutely won’t eat, it’s peas. Disgusting little green balls of ick and this stew was full of peas… Ugh peas. So, I picked them out and ate around them and after I got rid of them I had an amazingly delicious meal. I think if I lived down here I’d eat at Spencer Devon a LOT. The only reason for four stars instead of five is if like to try the place a second time before raising it to the five star level. Hope I can come back and try something else.

We popped in for lunch one day and enjoyed their delicious food and and well priced signature brews! Clean and peaceful atmosphere and I love the large beer brewery machines that are visible from any table in the facility.

Spencer Devon has a great #FXBG vibe. Fantastic food and a good assortment of brews. The wait staff was fantastic, delivered the menu options well and the food portions were fantastic. I think the cost for lunch may be a little high for the area, but the quality is well worth it. Update: Yesterday my wife and I with some friends got Sunday Brunch here LOVED it! The service was outstanding, the prices are good and the eclectic menu was exactly what I was looking for. You’ve got to do brunch here!

Spencer Devon is easily one of mine, and my family’s favorite restaurants, hands down. We’ve been there many times and have never had a bad experience. We’ve sampled everything from their goat cheese cheescake and lamb burger, to their poutine(not to be confused with poontang) and melt-in-your-mouth cinnamon rolls. My husband tells me he’s jealous because I love having their meat in my mouth. Their burgers are always grilled perfectly, and blow any other sucky Fredericksburg burgers out of the water. The service has always been fantastic. The owners are always out and about in the dining room area helping their employees and socializing with the customers; the atmosphere is very relaxed — in fact my 10 month old felt at home enough to load his diaper right in the middle of dinner; and the food has always been out in a timely manner, which is great because I’m a naturally hangry person. I ate most the poutine, the burrito, half of the potato salad, a quarter of my husband’s burger, and the left– overs of my daughter’s mac & cheese. Our waitress then brought out the check and kindly said, «take your time — if you would like anything more, such as dessert, let me know and I’ll alter the check.» To this I responded, «goddamn right I want dessert!» I could feel my husband’s eyes burning a hole through my head while I dove head first into the bliss that is their cinnamon rolls with ice cream. Once my plate was clean, he looked at me and said with an aggitated tone, «You’ve eaten everything they have to offer. Can we go home now?» Achievement Unlocked: Fatass Achievement Unlocked: Annoy Husband 10⁄10 will bang their food again

I liked the food and I thought the atmosphere was fitting for a brew house. I had the biscuits and gravy form the brunch menu which I did enjoy. We went at 1pm and it was pretty packed. By 3 it was half empty. It’s a little rough around the edges with service but still worth it. The French press coffee was great. I wish they had booths…

After visiting The Bavarian Chef for a friend’s birthday dinner — I convinced a few folks to accompany me over to Spencer Devon Brewing to taste some beers. I ordered the following flight: Center House Association Ale(4.0% ABV) Snead’s Squash Harvest Ale(4.5% ABV) Rappahannock River Water(Brown Ale)(4.0% ABV) Fall Line Pale Ale(5.0% ABV) Lauck’s Island West Coast Stye IPA(7.0% ABV) Rye Porter(5.6% ABV) Rocco’s Milk Stout(5.5% ABV) My favorite was the Lauck’s Island West Coast Style IPA — really good! Hoppy, resinous, piney, citrusy, floral — Yummm!!! The Fall Line Pale Ale, Rye Porter, and Rocco’s Milk Stout were also enjoyable. Service was a bit slow at times, I think our server was spread out over to many customers over the entire restaurant/brewery. I’d definitely come here again!
