This location is incredibly quant and decorated sweetly. However, we were disappointed by the food and lack of awareness of the staff. We arrived with an 8 month old baby, and with a restaurant full of available seating-were placed beside a booth of business people working through their lunch. While it didn’t bother us, I’m sure the people trying to work didn’t appreciate it much. The food had no taste. I ordered the manicotti, which arrived with a nice presentation, but the ground beef was almost purée, and the ricotta cheese was a horrible quality and completely tasteless. My mother ordered a cheeseburger which also had no taste. I, personally, found the salad bar to be good. Moms, this place also does not have a changing table in the bathroom. Needless to say, my kid had to be changed, so he was on the booth bench — sorry all… Used a pad but… Might want to bring some sanitizer. We won’t be returning. $ 28 tasteless lunch.

My daughter attends UMW which is directly across the street from this quaint eatery. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will return. Rustic atmosphere, prompt, courteous & knowledgable wait staff. Daughter had manicotti, husband had lasagne & I enjoyed a wonderful pizza. Everything was flavorful with tons of cheese, prepared exactly as we would expect. If you are in Fredericksburg, you should stop in!

This is a place I absolutely have to go every time I visit my parents. The portions are huge and delicious, and I could happily eat there every day if I could.

Four of us went to the General Store and for the life of me I don’t know how it gets good reviews. Chicken pot pie had mostly dark meat, my Greek pizza was so bland I thought I’d rid the hot pepper shaker and cheese of all they had in it. My husband got the pork sandwich and he had to choke it down. We went in the fall, so this is a late review, but this place is off my list.

I’ve been here multiple times and always love it. The spaghetti with meatballs is one of my go to’s, but lately my favorite is their new chicken pot pie bread bowl. No matter what I get, I always seem to get a ton of food for my money. Definitely one of my favorite places in Fred.

Nice home feel place with friendly staff. Food was good and made to order. Small but good salad bar. We’ll go back.

Open a can of Spaghetti O’s. it will be better than anything you get here. So I ordered a grilled cheese. Yep, burnt bread, cheese not melted. We had a gift certificate and had to use it. I do not know why anyone wastes their time or money here. Too bad, it’s a great location.

My all-time favorite restaurant in Fredericksburg. A beautiful place to make warm memories in. It’s definitely one of those«this is our place» kind of restaurants. Lovely, lovely staff, cozy décor, very down to earth & quiet. Don’t come here for a quick easy meal; this is a place where you eat slowly, enjoy your food, & have nice conversations. The food is simple but delicious. Don’t let any of the 1-star ratings have any sway on you; they’re quite simply wrong. Please give this wonderful restaurant your local business. You won’t regret it.

Good basic food and a delightful atmosphere. My favorites are: onion rings followed by spaghetti w/Creole sauce with apple pie ala mode to finish. I love it!

I just ate at the General Store for the first time last night, and it was quite a pleasant discovery. The General Store serves a wide variety of Italian, Greek, and American favorites in a relaxing, old-fashioned atmosphere.

As much as we can do it, we go here for lunch — they have great cheeseburgers. We always get spanikopita for an appetizer and ask for ranch dressing as a dip for it. This is our order consistently. The burgers are as good as they get and we like them better than Five Guys or Fosters. The spanikopita is homemade and wonderful. This is a simple restuarant with good food, nothing fancy. We’ve been going here for years. We like the staff and everyone is very friendly and they want to make you happy. It is off the beaten path a bit but a nice place to grab a bite and relax a little. If you like good homemade burgers, this is the place to go. If you aren’t sure what to order — go with a burger any time, any where — always a safe bet and an awesome one here at the General Store!

The people at work were taken to lunch at the General Store today. One star is probably too high of a rating for this dump. I’m sorry but next time, let’s just go to McDonald’s. I had a gyro salad. Actually I had a head of cutup iceberg lettuce with cheap and nasty«feta» cheese and«gyro meat» that had been frozen and in a box probably from Sysco — if I can hope for it to be that classy. The salad was uninspired with green peppers and the most horrible olives(fortunately there were only two) ever. The people with me all had«baked» spaghetti which looked horrible. OMG the bread — I swear I’m not making this up – looked like it came out of a Wonder Bread package. The average age of the other customers was probably about 87. So if you are nearly dead, this might be a good place to eat. If you still can breathe on your own, Methinks not. The tea was okay and the water didn’t have any foreign objects floating in it. There I said something nice. Everything else was gag worthy. But hey, thanks for lunch.

My fiancé ordered the open face mushroom burger and it did not have cheese on it, which was weird. I ordered the clam spaghetti. Very disappointing as there was not enough of the clam taste to it. Beware — the mozzarella cheese that came with it is A LOT. It’s this thick blanket of cheese over the pasta and sauce. Service was really slow. My fiancé went there once before and it was slow as well.

This is a family owned business, at walking distance to the University of Mary Washington. The restaurant has been around for quite sometimes now. They served mostly Italian and American dishes. Went here for lunch and I ordered the spaghetti with creole sauce topped with baked mozzarella cheese. The dish is served with a slice of white bread. As side dish, I had the house salad with blue cheese. The spaghetti was good, but I don’t know what happen to the salad, it was not good at all, salty somehow. The bread will probably be better toasted, maybe I should have requested that. They have a decent selection of wine and alcohol that is probably OK for the area. Décor wise, first thing you see when you entered the restaurant are many business cards from local businesses in the area. You can see on the wall of the restaurant pots, pans and old empty boxes of candy and cookies. I love the music in there, music form the 20s to the 60s. Overall the food was just OK, as well as the service, but it is a good place to relax with good music and forget about the stress of the day. As I was getting ready to leave, a young college student came in to apply for a position in there; this restaurant is probably welcomed by most students of UMW.

Okay, first off if you have driven by this place and HAVEN’T eaten here you are probably scared off by the sign that says«American and Italian» food. Don’t be. This place isn’t a one trick pony… Their hamburgers are incredible, I am talking about better than Five Guys incredible, approaching as good as your dad’s incredible. Their onion rings are great and they make their own ranch to dip them in here which is … wow, so good. Their Italian food is even good. If you are a UMW student or a local you should give this place a try!
