What a lovely place for an afternoon drink. Great atmosphere and a friendly environment. If I lived in Freehold I would come often!

the restaurant is nicely laid out. appetizer were fantastic! we thoroughly enjoyed the baked brie pops and filet spring rolls. cocktails are well done as well, standards with a slight twist to keep it fresh. entrees were phenomenal. shrimp & grits were delicious. as was the Cuban steak. both were prepared perfectly. flavors accented each other, no flavor was placed incorrectly.

Went there for Valentine’s Dinner with my wife and son. Finding parking was a bit tough, even with the parking lot behind the restaurant. We were seated promptly. Our server was nice and friendly. We were seated at a booth, which was spacious. Unfortunately, the back of the benches seemed like there was nothing really separating you from the people behind you. So, when someone from the adjacent bench moves or leans back, you will feel it. I requested for us to be moved. Unfortunately, the place was packed and they couldn’t move us to a different table. So, we just had to stick it out. Luckily, the group behind us left early. The meals, themselves, were pretty good. I had the double cooked skirt steak, my son had the salmon and my wife had the stuffed chicken breast over pasta. Worth every penny. Is the place worth going back to? Maybe… if it weren’t for the seating, I would recommend the place in a heartbeat.

Good quality is great here, drinks are very good. It is just a tad bit pricey. City feel with city prices. But definitely a nice go to place. Will be back!

Some of our friends were in the area, so we got together for dinner and drinks on a Friday night. As an aside, parking in downtown Freehold on a Friday or Saturday night is an absolute nightmare. There were no spots, and at least 25 cars were circling the municipal lots. I was convinced we were going to get in a collision, but I digress. We sat upstairs. The service was good. Our waitress checked on us regularly to see if we wanted drink refills. After she read the specials, she made a point to come over to the other side of our table to ask us if we heard her and needed her to repeat anything. There were 8 of us, and this place was noisy, so that was a good job by her. All of our food came out pretty promptly. There’s really no diplomatic way to put this, but most of our food was not very satisfying. This was some of the most expensive, least palatable food I’ve eaten. For starters, we ordered the goat cheese guacamole, crispy calamari and shrimp, and baked brie lollipops. The description under the guacamole says«fresh avocado.» This is an embellishment because the guacamole that was put in this appetizer was definitely outsourced. I know frozen/supermarket guacamole when I taste it. That or they made this dip a few days ago. The calamari and shrimp appetizer had some pretty sad looking fried fish. The shrimp was miniature. I don’t expect jumbo shrimp, but it was so small that it shouldn’t have even been listed as an ingredient. We were all like… «where is the shrimp??» It really looked like fried Bumble Bee Tiny Shrimp. The calamari was slightly better, but it was overcooked. The baked brie lollipops were the winner of the three, but I could have easily made this dish myself with 3 Trader Joes ingredients in 3 minutes. For our meals, my husband and I shared the spicy girl roll, tiger roll, and the Asian Romanian Steak. The sushi was okay. I thought it was pretty good for a Restaurant that isn’t a Japanese Restaurant. The fish was fresh. Friends who also ordered sushi agreed that it was decent. The Asian Romanian Steak came out how we ordered it, medium rare. Unfortunately, it tasted like it was doused in soy sauce. Ekkk. I didn’t really taste any other flavors. Mashed potatoes and veggies were good. No complaints there. For drinks, I had two maraschino cherry martinis. The drink was sweet and tasty and didn’t leave me with a headache, which is always a good thing. For dessert we had the donuts and the chocolate chip cookie(I forget exactly what they were called, and their website isn’t working). The donuts themselves were warm and yummy, but the dipping sauces(white chocolate, raspberry, and chocolate) were disappointing. The white chocolate was not white chocolate. It tasted like bad fluffernutter. And the«chocolate» was blatantly chocolate syrup. So sad, Metro! Why don’t you just melt some chocolate?! The raspberry sauce tasted like concord grapes? Idk… it was confusing. The cookie was definitely not a homemade cookie. Metro is making out like bandits by cutting corners, using inexpensive ingredients and up charging. I guess what they’re doing is working for them, as this place is consistently packed, but this doesn’t work for me.

Went with a pretty big group of couples. We had so many different dishes, probably had the whole menu. Everyone liked their dishes. You name it, we probably had it. Service was really good, especially for a group of our size. Restaurant was packed and we still felt like they were paying a lot of attention to us. Price point ok to a little high. Depends on the item. My only problem — — when I sat down, the waiter immediately asked me if I wanted a drink. Can I take my coat off first.

Emeric, behind the bar, is the first stop when you arrive – and potentially the best reason to come to the Metropolitan Café. He is attentive and an artist with your favorite vices… Everything is delicious no matter what your palette is used to. I had the scallop pinwheel(appetizer), chicken and mushroom tortellini, and fresh baked donuts. Not a single item would I not order again. Everything, including the tasty cranberry bread, was fresh and succulent. This was my first time… And I was compelled to sing Emeric and the Metropolitan Café’s praises, before I could even leave the bar.(Seriously, I’m still here.) Come check it out for yourself.

Nice joint. I was just here for happy hour, for a few drinks and had some beef satay which was good. Place has a nice ambience. Will come back for dinner when I’m in the area again.

It seems like this place is in denial that children will visit. You’re not a trendy, cool, upscale restaurant. You’re a downtown freehold restaurant on the main strip with an outdoor patio. Children will be visiting!!! No changing table in the bathroom so I found myself taking off my shirt to change my daughters diaper on the ground. They didn’t have booster seats. The menu was«young adult» vs. kids menu. I get it, guys, you want to cater to a different class of folks. But we are high class parents and we pay for great food and atmosphere for our children, too. My daughter actually devoured the«young adult» mac and cheese. Our waiter had a really difficult time with my not being a meat eater. What decade is this? We went back and forth about whether they could, no, whether they *should* make an appetizer vegetarian. I’m asking for it, can I please have it? After he finally agreed to put in the order, it came out delicious!!! Get with the program… vegetarianism is not a new concept. Service was slow so I ended up needing to leave with my toddler before our entrees came. Ultimately the food was just fine. Everything else left something to be desired.

My sisters and I stopped here for lunch today wanting to try something new. The restaurant itself is very nice and the décor is nice. It took about 10 minutes for the waiter to even take our drink order. We ordered an appetizer which came out relatively quickly but our three SANDWICHES took an hour to come out. The waiter never came to check on us, I had to go to the bar to get refills on our drinks. When we asked where our food was the waiter scrambled to get it. I asked for a manager and our waiter came over and said he was the manager… we told him that our wait was unwarranted and he told us that it was the kitchens fault. There were only four other tables in the restaurant! He comped 3 drinks and 25%.for our trouble. It was overall a poor experience. The food was decent and if it had come out in time we might have been relatively happy with our experience. Will not be returning.

Happy Birthday to me… Due to fate, I ended up in this establishment for my birthday dinner. I had no expectation going into the restaurant. When looking at the menu, I immediately noticed that it’s all over the place. You have Italian food, wannabe japanese food, wannabe chinese food, and random American dishes. Whenever a restaurant does not have a clear identity to a menu, it’s never a good sign. The chef does not have a good understanding of the food and what he wants to present to his or her customers. With this, I stayed away from any Japanese food from this restaurant. It was obvious to me without even looking at the food that I am going to be disappointed with the sushi rolls. I ordered the Disco Tots. It was so salty. Gravy was glazed unevenly and I felt like it was the same sauce used on the saltibacco. The cheese… mozzarella cheese ok, but what is up with the stink? The cheese stinks sometimes, but this was beyond that normality. It felt like it had a mass parm cheese on it with the way it was smelling. Either way, it was so salty that I was gulping down water and trying to eat it with ketchup to mask the smell and the saltiness. Next I ordered the surf and turf saltibacco. It was poop. It looked like someone cooked some stuff and just plastered them on to the dish. ZERO presentation. The waiter never asked how I wanted the meat done. The lobster was old and tasted old. It also gave off a slight smell. The spinach or whatever green veggie on top was so salty. Then, the cheese on top to make it even worse. Here is the kicker, the sauce was drenched everywhere. Everything was swimming in the sauce and the sauce was salty and had no robust flavor or anything. The beef was well done and chewy. I wanted to call for the manager but I didn’t want to make a scene on a birthday dinner. The dish was about 24.99 which was not worth the price. Disco tots were about 8.99 and was not worth the price. To get some saving grace, I tried the tempura roll. As expected, it was not good. The batter on the shrimp was salty that there was no need for a soy sauce. The rice was blend. These guys did not prepare the rice correctlt to accent the ingredients in the middle. The roll only had cucumber and the tempura shrimp. Really? Two ingredients and you’re going to charge 10 dollars? Kids on master chef show can make better food than these chefs in the restaurant. The pricing is ridiculous in this restaurant for the poop it produces. 6.99 for a seaweed salad? Really? I saw the seaweed salad it was putting out and I was just appalled. I saw many dishes that the waiter was carrying around and none of those dishes should have costed what they cost. This restaurant is unacceptable and either should close down or must change chefs.

I really enjoyed eating here. We sat outside so I’m not sure what the inside vibe is like. Food was served quickly and it was delicious. Service was great. Definitely coming back and would recommend.

Love it here. Bar area. Seated area. Outside seating. The appetizers are good. The happy hour appetizer specials are great, drink specials are okay but geared toward vodka and beer drinkers only(not wine or other liquor). Come here all the time with dates, with family, girls night. The food is so good. Love the lobster Mac but it’s super heavy so definitely too much for an appetizer. Excellent desserts too. Can’t say enough good things. Sushi is good too!

Metro Café is one of your Freehold staples. Definitely a great place to eat — I tend to have a lot of business meals here, as we usually enjoy great food and great service — in fact, the food generally seems to be a cut above much of Metro’s local competition. Parking is usually not a problem as there is the huge lot out back. In nicer weather, eating outside next to the sidewalk is a great way to people watch, if you’re into that. I was slightly disappointed they had removed my go-to favorite dish from the menu — a lobster ravioli with mussels and scallops in a vodka-like sauce. However, on my most recent visit I discovered the lobster and asparagus risotto, and all has been forgiven! It was one of the best meals I have had in quite some time. Bottom line, if you’re looking for a great meal, great service, and great ambiance, head downtown and check out Metro Café.

Our family went to Met Café to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The food was great, the prices a tad rich, and the service was a little light. My daughter lover her sushi, my son liked his crab topped tilapia, my other son liked his steak, and I enjoyed my Neapolitan chicken. The shrimp and calamari appetizer was very good, as was the brie lollypops. The rolls were good, but we had to ask for more of the raisin rolls as there were 5 of us and only one of them in the basket. The bus boy brought 3 more. For dessert we ordered the nutella flan and the sorbet sampler. Both were very good. Our server wandered away and was missing a few times when drinks were needed, but she was pleasant and responsive when requests were made.

Food was not worth the price. I had the Penne Vodka Pasta and I got sick of it after eating half of it. We had the calamari and shrimp as an appetizer, it was nothing special at all. They had a sushi bar there. I wanted to try it but I decided I’d go with the recommendations first.

This nice hideout is located in downtown Freehold. I never would have thought I was going to like it so much. The lighting is dim which I really liked. Full bar, friendly staff, and prompt service. Nice spacing between tables and booths. No TVs and not an overly noisy place. Although we went there for lunch so I guess at night this could totally change. In terms of service I can’t complain. Servers and hostess were attentive and prompt. A server sort of dropped in front of our table some of the food he was carrying for another table which seemed clumsy of his part because he was trying to carry too much at once. Our drinks were nice and the food was awesome. To start we had the pork dumplings. Also We had tempura and rainbow rolls which I thought were very good(I had too much wasabi and I felt my head was gonna explode). and the lobster sliders with fries(I would have liked for the lobster sliders to be served hot and not cold but that’s just my opinion). For dessert we shared the sautéed cheesecake which I thought was delicious. For drinks I had two peach martinis which were decent. Not to mention the company I was in which just made the experience awesome. Overall I had a great time and I would definitely recommend it and already see myself going there again for another great time :-).

Was drawn to this place because of the menu! Don’t be fooled by the name(as I was) this is not a little café. They have a huge outdoor seating area, dining area, an upstairs AND a lounge area! My friend and I each ordered salads(summer diets) but I wish I didn’t! Every dish that passed by for other tables smelled and looked AMAZING. There is a huge variety on the menu with an Asian twist.(There is a sushi bar) I ordered the seared tuna salad. It was huge — and I left stuffed. The tuna was crusted with sesame seeds(and was cooked exactly as I ordered) over a bed of mixed greens and mango salsa. Also on Wednesday they have a list of 25 wines that are 25 dollars a bottle(score!). The list is a solid mix of reds and whites. Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable about the specials and quick on drink refills. They were also pretty busy for a random Wednesday night. The attire is casual meets trendy. Think jeans, heals, and a nice top.
