We don’t know where these negative reviewers ate but their description wasn’t our experience. The McDonalds recommendation over Classic Cookout must have come from Ronald McDonald. We live in Freeport and make it a point to eat at Classic Cookout. The food is always fresh, hot dogs are very good, the hamburgers are delicious; served exactly how you order them. Comparing this food with McDonalds is basically comparing fast food with a home prepared meal, which this is. The only reason it’s not a five star is that it only has outdoor seating.

No, no, no. Go to McDonald’s instead, it’s harder to find, but worth the trek. The burgers, along with most everything else on the menu, are small, pre-frozen, and bland. Besides burnt onions, ketchup and mustard, there isn’t anything else that they can put on the burgers for you. Yes, the place next door is okay, but avoid Classic Cookout at all costs.

The burgers are TINY and overpriced. Fries and onion rings are okay but not enough bang for your buck. So many other great places to eat, don’t waste you time. Stick to the ice cream next door or head down rt.1 to Freeport center for REALFOOD.

Tourist Trap with terrible food Four of us traveling up the coast saw this place a year ago and thought that it looked interesting. This year when we saw it again, we went out of our way to turn back for a quick lunch. The menu is confined to only hot dogs, burgers, fries, and onion rings. We thought this might be a blessing, that specialty places are more likely to get it right. Wrong! No lettuce, mayonnaise, dressing, or tomato available. Your options are cheese, ketchup, mustard, fried onions, red relish. Three of the four of us reluctantly gave it a try despite seeing that the burgers being consumed by other customers were so whimpy that we hoped that they were eating the childrens size portions. Wrong again; the burgers were about the exact same size as a standard MacDonalds burger. The prices were on the high side about two to three times as much as McDonalds. The buns were steamy, sticky(slimy) and gross. The fried onions tasted terrible and smelled like something other than food. The worst part was the meat. It did not taste like any beef that I have ever eaten; far worse. One or two of us was convinced that this meat could not be beef. I believe that it was at least partially beef, but must say that it was horrible tasting and somewhat disgusting, especially when blended with the taste of the onions. The fries were very thick so if you live thick starchy fries, you might like them. The onion rings were almost very good but too saturated in grease and so overcooked that they were like slimy lawn cuttings. If you dare to try this place you might want to try a(overpriced) hot dog. But buy twice as much as you normally do because all of the meat portions here are very wimpy. Avoid the burgers unless you want to try something that does not taste like a burger. A visit to any fast food chain restaurant would be a far better value and vast improvement in taste. All four of us wished that we had not wasted our time here and felt taken advantage of when considering the terrible tasting, very small quantity foods that were highly priced. Three of us envied the one of us who would not buy a burger because of no mayo available. The frozen custard place next door, carrying the same namesake«Classic» Custard might have been an option had we not already grown to distrust the«Classic» brand name. Don’t waste your time, ruin your appetite, or throw away your money here. It was a down right horrible experience. Edit: Heather M. stated that Gary was mistaken about Mayo and said that they had mayo if you asked for it. The reason I knew that there was no mayo available was because I had asked for it. Perhaps they added it after I was there. All the mayo in the world could not have disguised the terrible tasting«food.»

Located next to Classic Custard on the same site, Classic Cookout serves up a very simple menu including burgers, cheeseburgers, double burgers, hot dogs, cheese dogs, French fries, onion rings, milk, and cold bottled drinks(Pepsi & Snapple). I had a decent tasting cheeseburger to go with my frozen custard concrete which I got at Classic Custard. This stuff is soo bad for me, but heck, I needed to indulge for one day. NOTE: Cash only
