Bottom line — you get what you pay for. I’m not complaining because no where else could I have gotten a Pine King 8 Drawer /4 Cabinet Storage Bed with Mahogany stain and square cut drawers for the price I paid. I’m just documenting my 2 star experience. The real issue IMHO is the factory’s quality control. My expectations were that of what I saw in the showroom. That was all. When I received the bed the first thing I noticed was that all the drawers/cabinets had the routered/beveled edge. Turns out, the salesman failed to tell me the Pine couldn’t be cut to square corners(probably because sharp edges on a softer wood, might not last as long). I would’ve gladly paid the extra for Birch — that still would’ve been a steal! Looking closer I noticed the stain was uneven, edges were rough and most of the bed needed sanding. For convenience i had the bed made in 4 parts, but the seam in the middle had been crushed. While the staining and sanding might help, this was not fixable. When I went into the store to ask about it, he didn’t offer to try and find a solution for the drawer oversight. He said he would send their serviceman out to do the re-stain and sanding(in my home) and the evaluate the seam. The closest appointment he could make was a month later. I called the Gothic corporate office and got service representative Mike. He was more than helpful. He had the bed picked up, got his manager to OK cutting square cut pine drawers and replaced the side with the crushed seam. After speaking to the serviceman, he said he’s the only one they have and he services all locations — which explains the month long wait and also suggests the factory sends out incomplete products all the time. Although it’s taken over 2 months to sort this out, Mike made sure I got what I paid for. He returned calls and helped find a solution to all of this.
