I’d like to thank Kathleen M. for the referral to Abie… Yes, it’s been a while since my May 2008 wedding, but Abie did a great job. He’s better to contact via phone than email — so for the working folks out there who usually prefer to interact electronically since it’s a bit awkward making personal calls at work, fyi… Not only is he exceptionally affordable(yes, $ 400 for 4 hours, set-up and takedown are free), he was really accomodating in putting up with my requests for specific music. As a dancer(lindy hop) I definitely wanted certain songs that I and my friends and I loved, and Abie was willing to take my painstakingly-labeled swing and blues CDs and play them throughout the evening. He interspersed these with funk, soul and 90s hip-hop…making for lots of folks on the floor the entire night(or at least once dancing began in earnest…). And yes, he can even provide a karaōke set-up for you if you so desire, and serenade you as a surprise(no extra charge)!

Abie was one of the cheapest DJs we found for our wedding. Our $ 400(unheard of for a DJ since they usually charge more in the $ 1000+ range) covered 4 hours of DJing plus the set-up and take down times. He even threw in karaōke for free. There were always people on the dance floor and the karaōke was a huge hit. I asked Abie to play jazz and Big Band era music during the dinner hour, and music from the 70s until today with a focus on late 80s and early 90s hip hop. He did a great job coming through with this music, and a lot of people told me what a great job Abie did. Abie even sang twice — once to accompany a jazz song during dinner(he wasn’t loud or out of place) and again to accompany my groom’s aunt when she karaoked«Unforgettable.» He has a great voice. Abie also had a good voice for introducing our wedding party. However, I think he announced by mistake that my groom’s brother was dancing with his mother during the groom/mother dance. Besides that, the only bad thing I can think of working with Abie was that he didn’t have about half of the songs we requested for him to play. Usually he can get songs he doesn’t have for people, but his computer was down. Thankfully a friend of ours tracked down the missing songs and we burned them on a CD for Abie. Also, he made me a little nervous when on the phone he said, «I assume you’ll have a money dance» since that was something we definitely didn’t want. We would absolutely hire Abie if we had to do it all over again. He definitely was worth more than the $ 400 we spent to hire him. In case you’re interested, here are our wedding songs.
