Not bad, not super impressive either. Don’t forget to check in for a free drink(which includes sake!). We got: Black Garlic Tonkatsu Ramen — Ironically this was the first thing to come out. Surprisingly delicious broth, with a deliciously garlic flavor, and the noodles were nice and chewy. My parents were big fans. Grilled Eggplant — Pretty disappointing, a bit too salty, and yet lacking in flavor. Skip. Edamame — Pretty average, and my father noted that rather than cook the edamame in salted water, they seemed to have just decided to dunk the edamame in salt after it was cooked. Skip. Seaweed Salad — The standard seaweed salad you get at Japanese restaurants, although they gave a surprisingly large portion. I love this stuff so this was a no brainer order. Lamb — Surprisingly good. It was nice and juicy, and seasoned with some spices to add a bit of flavor to it. Probably one of the better dishes. Hamachi Kama — This was fine. The fish was tender and I enjoyed it, although I wasn’t particularly blown away, as I have been with some other renditions of grilled fish at other Japanese restaurants. Skewers we tried: Beef Tongue — I liked this a lot, very tender and delicious. Chicken Gizzard — I also really liked this, nice and chewy, although my mother was less impressed. Chicken Liver — Very liver-y tasting. I wasn’t a huge fan, though my mother thought it was very nice and tender. Shishito Pepper — This was pretty average.

This place is legit. Service was EXCELLENT! Very nice atmosphere, I felt really comfortable and they had the game on! Ramen was suuuuper good! I got the Black Garlic Tonkotsu but will be back to try more in the very near future :) You guys rock and the Mochi ice cream on the end was just the best!

Yum! Located in the same plaza as Gong Cha in Fremont, Causeway Bay Bistro is a tiny hidden gem. From the outside it doesn’t look so special, but the interior design is so nice! Everything flows smoothly and comes together to let you know they mean serious business. This bistro offers ramen AND yakitori. Yakitori is pieces of meat served on a stick; you can choose multiple items to get a small taste of everything! I went with my family and we had a good selection of appetizers, yakitori items, ramen, and the curry tonkatsu don. The appetizers we had were the Takoyaki(deep fried octopus balls) and fried tofu. Both were very good, and the takoyaki was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I had the Tonkotsu Ramen and asked them to make it spicy. I thought it was pretty good for its location(10 – 15 min away from my house) and the price($ 9.50). I had a little taste of my brother’s curry tonkatsu and it was really good! The curry wasn’t salty like I’ve experienced at other places. I’ll definitely get that next time I visit. We had a variety of yakitori options including pork belly, duck breast, and jowl. They were sooooo good, the perfect fix if you want a taste of some barbecue but don’t have enough stomach for AYCE. I’ll definitely be back for some more yakitori :)

This restaurant has become a family favorite recently. The staffs are very nice and attentive. Black garlic ramen is tasty and not too salty — I don’t normally finish the soup when I eat at other ramen places but I actually finished their black garlic ramen soup! We also tried their yakitori. The Black Angus beef, chicken heart and chicken gizzard were all very tender and flavorful. They have five-star, so be sure to tell them your number to collect the reward.

Ordered unagi bowl, tonkatsu ramen, beef tongue skewer, and fish collar. Unagi and tonkatsu lunch special was great value at $ 7.50 and comes with miso soup, salad, and potstickers. Taste average. Beef tongue skewer was good. Fish collar was just ok. Not sure if it’s worth $ 10.5.

Going in around 2 pm on a Sunday was a good idea; the place was pretty empty save for a family or two. We got seated right away, the place was neat and clean. There are a lot of choices on the menu — also if you check in on Unilocal you’ll get a free drink(do so if you haven’t already, I’ll wait). We ordered a bunch of food, which came out pretty quickly(~10 minutes or so). One of the highlights was the Black Garlic Tonkatsu Ramen — very flavorful and thick broth. I got the Curry Katsu Udon — the udon was light and delicious, but the Katsu was lacking in flavor, and wasn’t as light as I was expecting. The curry was also not the most flavorful(«Aji ga nai» — «no flavor» in Japanese. Your lesson for the day), but the Chicken Kara-age and calamari were good! The Agedashi Tofu was also okay — not enough flavor in the broth. In general, you get a lot of food for what you pay here — we were saying the normal noodle volume here is like an «extra noodle» portion in other places. Plus points: they give you ice cream after the meal! Overall, I’d go back here — they’re open super late(11pm) most of the time, so it’s a good late dinner. I do think they have to work on accenting their flavors a bit more, but then again I’m spoiled from my adventures in Japan.

This place looked decent from the Unilocal pictures. It was an okay experienced and from usual Cantonese owned restaurants, I don’t usually expect good service. Food: Skewers — we tried pork belly, American Kobe, tongue, shishito peppers and chicken thighs. The shishito peppers were way overpriced so the small 4 peppers we were given. The tongue was the best one out of the 5 honestly for me. The tongue is fatty and juicy, while the others were kind of chewy and not a lot of flavor. Unagi don — my boyfriend had this and it was really saucy and sweet. It didn’t seem fresh though to my boyfriend but the sauciness did its job and covered that for me. Curry pork katsu Don — the curry was the right flavor as I have had at real Japanese places. The katsu was nice and crispy on the parts that weren’t covered in sauce. This was pretty good, but the only thing that threw me off was the ginger. It was like the strong pickled ginger as in sushi restaurants vs the sweet pickled ginger that is usually served with it. They did include pickled baby onions and this was kind of nice to try with the dish. Checking in gets you a free drink in which they don’t specify what you can or can’t get. Next time I will get a beer/sake, but at the time, we tried the fresh grapefruit soda. This came as a surprise because, you have to make it yourself! They give you a table citrus juicer, a glass and a canned Sprite. I would expect a warning on this or something. It ended up being good but it was quite a shock for me. Service — we had asked for our soda during ordered and it wasn’t given to us first, he actually forgot. He also never gave me a straw after I asked so I could stir my soda. The miso soup with the entrees didn’t come out first either, but at the same time as the meal. Which lead to colder main meals and actually switching back and forth between soup and the meal. All in all, different experience but the service, the food and the ladies working there didn’t impress me at all.

Their Ramon is pretty tasty, better than most of the Japanese Ramon the the area. They offer free dessert, at least for dinner. Nice decoration, convenient location, with neighbors like Ranch 99, boiling point, little Taipei.

This place is amazingly wonderful! I came here with my friend because it was bookmarked. I’m very glad we did! Once we entered, the place was dimly lit & the atmosphere was very calming. We ordered from the lunch special menu. $ 7.50 for entrée, salad, miso & potsticker. I ordered the curry tonkatsu don & my friend ordered tonkatsu ramen. My curry tonkatsu don was yummy, but nothing special. The ramen was delicious & you can taste the butter in the broth! Portions are more than enough! I got full fast. We also ordered the Kobe beef & the bacon wrapped asparagus. The Kobe beef was extremely juicy & flavorful! The bacon was crunchy & made for a great pairing with the asparagus! TIP: if you check in, you get a free drink… This includes sake, draft beer, iced green tea & soda. Yes, you read that right, free sake or draft beer! Yes, free alcohol.(Better hop on it before it disappears!) I loved the service! Very friendly & efficient. My water cup was always full. I will definitely be back!

I’ve been coming here for a month. At first I was a little cautious of a Chinese owned Japanese Yakitori and Ramen restaurant but I was pleasantly surprised that the flavors are not a Chinese take on Japanese dishes but really taste authentic. With the highly competitive Ramen market right now, I am happy to say that Causeway Bay’s Kuro Tonkotsu ramen tastes better than what’s offered at many Japanese owned ramenyas out there. There’s not too many yakitori charcoal grill spots out there and anything in southbay is always going to be compared to Gaku. The flavors are comparable and while Gaku has somethings that no other places have, so does Causeway Bay! I now visit Causeway Bay at least 3 times a week and I always discover something new and amazing on their menu each and everytime. This is easily one of my favorite places to eat now!

Went here for lunch with a couple of friends and my kids. The food was awesome! My daughter gobbled up everything! My husband and I have been looking for a ramen place in the Bay Area that has great, savory broth that isn’t too bland, too salty, or loaded with msg. Causeway’s tonkotsu ramen was bomb! It was perfectly seasoned and the noodles were cooked very well. Will definitely bring the hubby next time. Some of the other dishes we tried were agedashi tofu, squid legs, Kobe beef, tongue, pork belly, and grilled rice balls. All were excellent! Highly recommend the squid legs and tofu! **another bonus! The bathrooms are incredibly clean!!!

Pros Duck Breast Kushiyaki: The pieces of duck breast was extremely flavorful and the meat was tender and not tough like the kobe beef I had. It was one of the few items where I ordered second rounds of. Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen: The tonkotsu broth wasn’t as garlicky as I’d like but overall it was a good bowl of ramen with perfectly cooked noodles and good toppings. Takoyaki: they cooked it right since the octopus wasn’t chewy. Also loved the strips of nori as part of their toppings. Cons Bacon Quail Egg: It was a good item considering I love quail eggs but wouldn’t order it again unless they change the type of bacon they use. The bacon used to wrap around the quail eggs tasted like the cheaper cuts. Kobe Beef Kushiyaki: Usually grilled kobe beef can stand alone with minimal seasoning but sadly their version needed more seasoning and the meat was also tough.

Restaurant: Classy interior, perfect for dinner time. Leaves a good impression. Service: Female host was polite, and our waiter was OK. Food: Ordered black garlic tonkatsu ramen, 1 plate each of pork belly, chicken wings, and Kobe beef. 3 star taste. I liked pork belly the best, and thought the ramen would taste better if there were a little more corn or other veggies. Complimentary wet napkins(which is good, after ordering I was thinking about how perfect it would be if I had one) and ice cream dessert. Free drink if you check in, but there are not many options under non-alcoholic menu. I didn’t ask but I’m assuming the free drink doesn’t apply to sake. They have soda, sparkling water, grapefruit soda, ramune, and I think iced tea. 3 or 3.5 stars at most, but I’m in a good mood and they only opened a month ago or so. I really appreciated the wet napkin :^) and hope they improve the food.

I was here couple of days ago for early dinner. How early you might ask? It was about 4:30pm when I walked in. I wasn’t sure if they were opened this early, but it appears that they been opened since lunch and just stay opened until dinner. I was thinking, that’s kind of how a Chinese restaurants runs. Oh wait, the owner is Chinese. I had the whole restaurants to my self, nice peace and quiet. I had order two items, Katsu curry with miso soup and fried octopus legs. The Katsu curry was ok, not too bad. I did like the pickle stuff that they added with small pickle onions. They gave me a lot for the fried octopus legs, but maybe that’s why it costed about $ 9. My total for those two items comes to about $ 17 The purple hair staff was pretty friendly just like the owner. I would have to come back again and tried their grill yakitori the next time i come back.

This review is for to go order only. I got miso ramen and curry katsu don. The miso ramen was packaged separately and once I got home to cook it all together everything still tasted great. The soup was flavorful and the noodles were springy, not soggy at all despite the delay in time before I ate it. Didn’t taste like msg and had strong flavors of miso and a lot of depth. The curry katsu don was a perfect size. The katsu was crispy and not dry at all. The curry sauce was a little salty tho thus minus 1 star. But overall I liked the consistency and flavor. I need to return next time for the yakitori but I liked how fresh everything still tasted despite to-go! Check in for free drink and remember happy hour M-F 30% off yakitori between 3−6pm!

This is honestly in between 3 – 4 stars for me. I don’t have much to say because it’s kind of average. Causeway Bay Bistro used to be a Chinese food place, and they recently turned into a Chinese-owner Japanese ramen and yakitori place overnight. Lol what?! Anyways I’ve come here a few times, and I do like them but the food is not AMAZING. Major plus is that they’re open all day and don’t close during midday like the rest of the restaurants in that plaza do. Tip– They have beer. Ramen: Their ramen line is actually done quite well, and my favorite has got to be their black garlic tonkatsu ramen. I would come eat here just for this! Delicious. Beef bowls: Also quite delicious and very flavorful. I love that the portion is so small and it’s only $ 5! It gives you room to try their yakitori or other potentially appetizing items. A lot of places screw up on beef bowls by making them super dry. I’m glad Causeway Bay didn’t make that same mistake. The beef melts in your mouth. Well done! Yakitori: I feel like their yakitori is a major hit or miss, and for a restaurant that supposedly specializes in yakitori, I’m a little disappointed and I expected more. The first time I came here, their chicken thigh skewers blew my mind. It was so good, I wanted to order more. Duck sucked, lol. And I’m surprised it sucked because duck is a dark meat and is supposed to be a lot more tender. The Kobe beef skewer was subpar. On another occasion that I came here, I had hoped to enjoy the chicken thigh skewer again but this time, it was dry and really resembled chicken jerky. Nothing at all like the first time I tried it! On this same day, the Kobe beef was really good, and the scallop skewer was tasty. Garlic edamame is nothing special. It’s literally dry chopped garlic tossed into edamame beans lol. I’d definitely recommend to try their ramen and beef bowls. If you’re adventurous, try your luck with their yakitori. Hopefully you have better luck than I did!

My friend and I decided to try this place as we wanted Gong Cha after our meal and it was in the same plaza. We noticed a check in offer they were advertising at the table for a free drink for Facebook check in and likes. I asked the waitress what it included and she says house sake, beer, or soft drink… wait free sake or beer?! I checked in and made my friend checked in as well. We were given a large hot sake for our social media work. Pretty good trade off I must say. This might have been the case because we were there at 4pm on a weekday and we were the only customers at the time. We ordered the Kobe beef yakitori and a tonkotsu ramen each. The Kobe beef was delicious! So tender and juicy. The ramen has pretty good flavor, not great like Orenchi, but much better than most ramen joints around Union City and Fremont. We didn’t notice the happy hour special on Monday to Friday from 3−6pm of 30% off on food and figure we wouldn’t get it since we used our Facebook offer. Our bill came and we got the discount on food as well. All that food and sake for $ 12 each pre tip is a great deal and they deserve that extra star for it(would have given four otherwise). Will definitely come here again but will need to go off peak hours as this plaza gets crazy busy and packed.

Two words, no good. We wanted to revisit the Chinese restaurant Causeway Bay Bistro but found out the restaurant has changed theme into Korean and Japanese by the same owner. There’s a huge wine bar inside, the menu is mostly Japanese, small plates, ramen and rice dishes and grill skewers. We tried the onion and beef rice(ok, not bad for the price and portion), grilled rice ball(ok), grilled American beef(not good, no flavor and luke warm inside that making me wonder if the meat was not fully thawed from the fridge), seaweed salad(ok, just a plate of seaweed, nothing special), grilled pork belly(ok, nothing memorable) and the recommended grilled chicken(again, ok but nothing special). Total for $ 23 bucks, I can only say that there’s nothing special from menu selections to food items. The service was nice, but I have no other reasons to come back here.

Decided to try this place out with my boyfriend on a Saturday, came around 1:30 and the place was very empty, I guess no one really knows about this place. The décor and design of the restaurant is very nice! Love the feel of it. The menu has a wide selection of foods so you’re not limited. Everything is also fairly priced. I’ve never really been a fan of ramen since I don’t like thin noodles but this place is an exception. I got the miso and it wasn’t that bad! Usually other ramen places make their miso super salty but this place wasn’t at all. My boyfriend got the tonkotsu broth and that was good as well. The bows of ramen are huge! They give you a lot of noodles and fills you up pretty quick. My boyfriend and I were starving but we still couldn’t finish it. If you don’t think you can finish a whole bowl of noodles I recommend sharing it with someone. My boyfriend ordered a meat skewer and that was ok, the pieces were cut a little bit too big so took a bit time to chew. We also got the takoyaki which was delicious! Service was a bit eh, not much talking and they don’t really come around unless you wave them down. Overall, big bowl of noodles, delicious takoyaki and great atmosphere. There are also private sections if you have big parties of like 10+ people! For 2 bowls of ramen, 1 order of takoyaki and 1 order of the meat skewers, total was only around $ 31 and in my opinion is super cheap. Will be my spot for ramen cravings!

Tried this new place mid afternoon, no one was there. Ramen was very on point, not too salty not too bland. Very good ramen and the yaktori was very delicious. The décor was is very modern and clean. Pretty sure had we come at dinner time there probably going to be some wait time. All in all, this is my new favorite ramen joint in Fremont.

We were grocery shopping in the Ranch 99 center and decided to stop in the newly revamped Causeway Bay Bistro now serving Yakitori and Ramen. The place is super dark even during the day. The menu prices are high for the tiny portions. We ordered the following: Spicy Miso Ramen 2.5 stars pretty spicy two super thin slices of Chashu minimal toppings Tonkatsu curry rice. 4 stars best dish of the meal the pork cutlet was very good. Yakitori Beef tongue 1 star(3) tiny dice size pieces of meat no charcoal smoke flavor Asparagus Warped in Bacon 2 stars(4) tiny thin asparagus grilled with bacon(how do you skewer such a thin piece of asparagus anyway?) Tempura($ 9) 1 star greasy heavy soaked in oil with 2 shrimp and several pieces of carrots no panko flakes terrible Service is disjointed. The tempura appetizer came as we were finishing the meal. The phone is constantly ringing and no one picks it up. Free soda with Unilocal check in.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to get dinner since we were about to go on the road to Tahoe with some friends. Found this gem on Unilocal since we would be in the Fremont area and decided to give it a try. We walk in and see we can at the right time. HAPPYHOUR. ½ off all of their yakitori! Anyway, as an appetizer we shared the takoyaki and it was really good compared to other places I’ve had it(like orenchi’s and Myzen ramen). The takoyaki was crispy and not too mushy on the inside and it was filled with tako. Very yummy. Then we decided to share the black garlic tonkotsu ramen, and the broth was really good. It was rich, but also pretty light. It was a pretty good portion for two people to share, and I was very satisfied. On to the yakitori(: For the yakitori, we got: chicken heart, chicken wings, chicken thigh, chicken gizzard, kurobuta pork, beef, duck breast, bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms, and beef tongue. Overall, I loved it. The seasoning was perfect, the textures were on point, and it was all super delicious. Would definitely come back again to try the other half of the yakitori options. Highly recommend! Oh, and you get a free drink if you like their page in fb and check in on Unilocal d;

This place recently opened in the 99 Ranch plaza in Warm Springs, right next to the supermarket. Its a little hidden away because it took the corner spot. Warning: parking here is TERRIBLE on the weekends. Circled around for 10 minutes before finding a spot. The service here was excellent, I was seated promptly when I arrived and I was waiting for my friend and as soon as she walked through the door they directed her my way. They came to check up on us pretty often throughout the meal, and our tea cups were never empty. The service was friendly and approachable and they were also pretty quick to bring out the food. Now the food here was delicious, the noodles were perfectly cooked, and it had all the fixings like bamboo, corn, seaweed, etc. There was also a perfectly cooked soft boiled egg on top, its so delicious when you scoop part of the yolk out and eat it with a bite of ramen. Perfect. Their slices of the pork was succulent and delicious. Loved it. I ordered the spicy miso ramen, and the broth definitely had a good kick to it, unlike other ramen places I’ve been to. I loved the spice because that’s just what I’m looking for in terms of flavor. My only problem with this place is their presentation. The ramen didn’t look as good as it tasted, probably because of the way they plated their toppings. Other than that I’ll definitely be returning! They also have yakitori which I’ll be back to try.

yayy yakitori! I’d say this place is pretty inexpensive since the skewers do fill you up pretty fast. they do have a good variety of yakitori to choose from although I’ve seen more choices at some other places. What I do have to make sure i note in this review is how fast the service is here. everything came out so quick and flavorful. I do also have to add that none of the meats are too fatty, but its so tender, you’ll be chewing for days. We also tried the miso and the broth was super flavorful :) I can tell people come here for a quick bite to eat. Not too many tables lingered too long. The service is also very attentive.

I was in the area with some friends and we saw this place had just opened up, so we decided to give it a try. Their menu selection is pretty interesting: there’s a wide range of appetizers, yakitori, ramen noodles, & rice plates(although this category only has a few food items). The interior of the restaurant is clean & modern looking. As for food & service: 3 stars for food –1 for service What we ordered: — Takoyaki: this was actually pretty good! — Agedashi Tofu: I also liked this one — Fried Soft Shell Crab: it was on the smaller side and the vinegar-like sauce that came with it did not go well together. — Miso Ramen: pretty bland soup base… I guess if you want good ramen, go to an actual ramen restaurant. I asked for the meat on the side, they ended up giving me everything(noodles & toppings) on the side… Service: While the staff and our server was nice, they took super long, forgot orders, and neglected us for a while(despite the place not being crowded at all). My ramen came out super late, my friends already finished their meals. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they’re all new & still trying to figure things out because they just opened… But for now, I will not be returning any time soon. Hopefully they change up some stuff & improve. I always like rooting for the mom & pop restaurants.

Wasn’t Causeway Bistro the same restaurant that was here previously? They just added the extra«Yakitori & Ramen» after its name? Hmm. In any case. We had a pleasant experience overall at Causeway Bistro. At around 7pm on a weekday, there was no line and only 1 table was occupied. Walking in, you notice the lights which decorate the dark restaurant first, which gives the place a modern/fancier feel. The menu was pretty straight-forward; divided into 3 sections: Appetizers, main dishes, and Yakitori. Being ramen-lovers, we both wanted to see how their ramen compares to other places in the area so we ordered 1 Spicy Miso and 1 Black Garlic ramen. To start off, we decided on the Fried tofu. except it came out AFTER the ramen so we were kind of eating both at the same time(tofu. ramen? hah.ha.) Still. I’m satisfied that SOMETHING came out quickly so we weren’t both sitting around hungry. Both orders of ramen tasted yummy, however they were not the best ramen we’ve ever tried. It’s not really so much that the ramen lacked anything. But it just wasn’t something that wow’ed me to the point of wanting more of it the next day. The toppings included were just right, as it came with corn, green onions, chashu, black fungus, and half of a soft-boiled egg. The broth wasn’t TOO salty, noodles not too soft nor undercooked, chashu wasn’t too dry. For the Spicy Miso ramen, the spiciness was at a good level and for the Black Garlic, the garlic flavor was just right. Fried tofu was yummy and came with large pieces of soft tofu with semi-crispy outer layer, and placed in a small bowl of sauce.(The top pieces do not touch this sauce at all so you’ll have to eat the bottom pieces first and then move the top piece to the newly opened space) Unfortunately we had no more room for yakitori after the ramen and appetizer so we’ll have to come back another time to try them. There was also a large list of different kinds of sake waiting for me to try: p The service from the male waiter was above and beyond and very friendly! Will be back!

i am a fan. We wanted yakitori so we found this joint on our way to the Sharks game. Thanks Unilocal. They are newly opened and i hope they make it! The food was good and inexpensive. 50% off of the yakitori skewers during happy hour. I think 5−7pm during the week. also if you check in on facebook they will give you a free drink(soda, beer(if you are 21+), etc) i thought that was very cool. Plus they have a rewards program for you to get free stuff after x amount of dollars spent. My fave was the chicken thigh and the bacon wrapped quail eggs. Good inexpensive food and friendly wait staff plus FREE wifi!

This is a new restaurant, so it was completely empty when we walked in. I was concerned that it wasn’t good and wanted to leave, but it was already 9:30 and we were hungry, so we decided to check it out. The server was nice, but he was super adamant about making sure we checked in on Unilocal and liked their Facebook page before we could get the free drink that comes with it. Most restaurants would take your word for it. I ordered the black garlic tonkatsu ramen and my bf ordered the miso ramen. Both were mouthwatering good. The meat melted in my mouth and the flavors were very vibrant. However, I was disappointed that the boiled egg was overcooked. It’s usually my favorite part of a ramen dish. Overall the meal was very pleasant and I would come back in the future. Next time I’ll try the small plates!

Really good Ramen and Skewers! Good reviews on Unilocal so here I went with my family. And finally found a good ramen place at Fremont rather than made an hour drive out to San Mateo. Pros: — Pretty decent bowl of ramen — Clear & Simple Menu — Rich & Creamy Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen Broth with perfect soft boiled egg — Chicken wing skewers were pretty tasty, with the slight scent of the charcoal grill — Bacon quail egg skewer is also tasty, not too oily. — Reasonable price — Great customer services and free dessert after the meal(Must try Lychee ice cream!) Cons: — Hard to find a parking space — Need time to find the restaurant. Overall, everything was okay and I would like to go back again.

Another classic example of quantity over quality, Causeway has a bit of an identity crisis. I’ve never heard a place perfecting both yakitori AND ramen at the same time, and after my somewhat lackluster dining experience here, my suspicions were only proven true. Not to mention that this is another Chinese-owned Japanese restaurant, but let’s try to ignore that for now. Since Boiling Point had a line that poured out of the door, we needed an alternative. And sine yakitori is rare in the area, my curiosity got the best of me. Causeway is attempting to be trendy; the restaurant is dimly lit and has these weird wall scrolls dividing up seating areas all over the place. The menu itself is a little spastic, with a limited selection of Asian tapas(think takoyaki and the like), ramen, and yakitori. Service wise, the waiters are all obviously new and don’t really have a good idea of what’s going on. We had: Black Garlic Ramen: Hnnnn. Not great. Do not expect bomb, Japanese style ramen. Broth was quite bland and lacking a lot of depth in terms of flavor. Chashu was strangely cold and the noodles weren’t exactly the texture you’d imagine for ramen. I’d skip this. Chicken Liver & Beef Tongue: We didn’t initially order the liver(lol) but we thought they were both beef tongue skewers as they looked fairly similar and arrived on the same plate. I only had the liver, and it was pretty decent. Chicken Heart: Chewy. If you like chicken hearts, this is a safe choice. Kurobuta Belly: Pork belly. Sea salt is a big plus! Gives it a nice flavor. Cook was good. I’d recommend you going full on out on yakitori and skip the ramen here. Prices were reasonable as well, and since yakitori is no at all abundant in this side of the bay, Causeway may have success at being a niche spot. Service wise though, man oh man. Our ramen came out at two different times, despite having ordered two of the same thing. Random appetizers were coming out that we did not order, and the skewers themselves came in sporadic waves. Lot’s of potential here though. I’d wait maybe a couple weeks to let the staff get a hold of their menu before venturing in. Check in for a free drink!

The menu is pretty limited. It looks like a bunch of small dishes and five different kinds of ramen you can get. The ramen is under«rice and noodles» but that section of the menu doesn’t have any rice items… My friend tried to order the black garlic tonkotsu ramen but it wasn’t even available. A bowl of ramen is around 8 bucks. Seems like the servers don’t really know what they’re doing yet. We did come during their soft opening though so maybe they will improve. Ramen was quite average. If you’re not picky about your ramen, this is an okay place to come for it. The egg was nice and soft boiled though.
