I went and got an air perm a couple of weeks ago absolutely love my perm. My experience was very pleasant very easy and very accommodating highly recommend. I am even making an appointment for my mom to get hers done.

I wasn’t going to write a review because I detest complaining and writing negative comments about people’s businesses, but the more I have thought about it, I want someone else looking to get their hair highlighted to be warned! I have never had such a bad highlight until my last highlight from Gloria. I didn’t see the damage until I went home to blow dry myself due to lack of time. The foil must have slipped and leaked bleach because there were strips and chunks of bleach all throughout my hair. She’s cheap, but it’s not worth getting a bad highlight! I just spend 3 hours in a different salon having them fix what she did. I have to go back and try to fix the rest at my next appt. because there is just so much she jacked up! It can’t be fixed all at once. I give her zero stars, but Unilocal requires a minimum of 1.

This is a followup to GN’s review. I just had the owner do the straighten keratin treatment on my hair, and it looks fabulous. I was in the shop having my hair done when she came back in to complain the same day she had her done. I have to say she was very rude and insulted the owner in front of her customers, which I thought was reason enough not to give this woman a refund. I was 4 ft a way from her hair looked great with the excetion the ends looked a little dry. I even have a pic to prove it.
I overhead the entre conversation, when the owner called the rep who she buys the product from to consult with her. The owner offered to redo the treatment after 2 weeks per the rep’s recommendation, and the customer insistent that she wanted a refund so she could go have it done again in the next 5 days for a wedding. Owner warned her that would only cause more damage, but the customer insisted again that she was going to have someone else do it for a wedding she was going to the following Sat– I neglected to mention that the owner mentioned to her prior to treatment that her hair was not in the best shape and she should postpone the straighten treatment. She spent 4 hours on this customer, was interrupted, insulted, gave a full refund, and still got a bad review from this customer. THATS JUST WRONG.
IMO I think the customer was just looking for a freebie.

Got home a couple hours ago from a keratin straightening with Gloria — best money I’ve ever spent on my hair, not to mention great company! I’m only sad I didn’t find this place sooner, because I’m now moving out of state! Definitely coming back here the next time I’m in California.
Found her by chance on Unilocal,and when I called, Gloria was super sweet about accommodating my need for an appointment before I moved. I had planned on getting a Japanese hair straightening, but when I got there and she saw my color treated hair, she said, «Uh uh, we’re doing the keratin,» and it turned out great. My perpetually curly, floofy hair is now silky and smooth. I’m hooked!
I’ve never been one to pay to have my hair done when I can «figure it out» on my own — but it turns out, it’s better to go see people who know what they’re doing and will take care of you!

UPDATE: I’ve been putting off this update because I really liked Gloria, but I have to take off a star for how unhappy I ended up being with the treatment she did on my hair. I had reservations about the keratin treatment as it was NOT what I originally requested — I wanted the more permanent Japanese hair straightening. In retrospect, I should have stuck to my guns despite her refusal to do the Japanese straightening because I know my hair better and I should have anticipated problems with greasiness. However, I wanted to respect Gloria’s experience and go with her recommendation.
For the first 72 hours, the keratin straightening was great and I followed all aftercare directions exactly (not pinning hair back, not getting it wet, etc.). I was told that even after my first shampoo with the expensive keratin shampoo ($ 20), that I’d be able to let my hair AIR DRY and it would be wonderfully straight without any heat styling, and that going forward I could do «touch-​ups» as needed with my straightening iron. That, my friends, turned out to be bullshit. My hair ended up such a wavy mess that it took me MUCH longer to blow dry and straighten it than it would have to just save my money and leave it curly. The whole point of the straightening was to make my hair LESS labor intensive, not more.
After the second shampoo and beyond, my hair became straighter… because it was such a grease slick it couldn’t have curled if it wanted to! It was so disgusting, my boyfriend tried to be nice and ignore what he dubbed the «awful texture» of my hair, but I felt disgusting every time I left the house.
Three weeks into this nonsense, I was spending so much time trying to work around having such awful hair that I went to Walgreens, purchased a cheap Suave shampoo for $ 1, and washed my hair about ten times consecutively to get all the keratin crap OUT. I felt cleaner and more comely than I had in weeks.
The whole fiasco has made me appreciate my curly hair anew, and I’ve decided that if it was meant to be straight, I would have been born that way. I’m only sorry I had to spend so much money on this hair treatment to get to that point.
I emailed Gloria immediately after I started having issues, and she was horrified that I was so unhappy, and went as far as to offer to do the treatment I had originally asked for — the Japanese straightening — for free. I have not taken her up on the offer as the whole experience was so awful that I don’t want to mess with my hair at all anymore.
The upside? I found out that $ 1 Suave shampoo is pretty awesome, and I stopped giving a crap if my hair is floofy and curly — it fits me.

This review is way overdue. I did a lot of research before choosing to get my hair straightened here. The other reviews from the other salons were very generic and you could just tell that the reviews from Gloria’s were sincere.
I have a ton of hair And it is wavy and very big. I never had my hair down because it would take me hours to do. But Gloria made it straight without any damage. I can come out of the shower and walk out the door. It is amazing. I will definitely be going back for a touch up. Best thing I have ever splurged on.

Kathy (Williams) Smith has been doing my hair since the early 1990’s. I have followed her everywhere. I lived in Boston for 6 years and my 2 daughters and I would fly home (Fremont) to have Kathy do our hair. YES!!! she’s that good! You won’t be disappointed with Kathy! Kathy has been my stylist for many years. She rescued my hair from a complete bleaching disaster I received at another shop. Three things I like about Kathy: She is conservative when it comes to cutting — I never go home «scalped»; She does a great job with color — even on my ultra fine hair; She is reasonably priced — I find I pay less than most of my friends and I think I get a better job.
The other ladies in the shop are super nice too!

I get my hair straightened here — they do the Japanese straightening. I love it. It makes my hair so nice and easy to style. I’ve been getting my hair straightened here for years and I posted a review previously but it’s now gone so I’m reposting. How odd that it’s gone.
It’s a small shop, but these women know their business. It’s not flashy, or girly, but functional. They have good products on their retail shelves.
I wouldn’t try walking in — this is a busy place and these stylists sit very little. Call and make an appt.

I’ve been getting my hair done by Gloria for MANY years now. She is very friendly and always willing to fit me in! I get my hair straightened just about every 6 months and I love it! She doesn’t charge an arm and a leg like many other places in the Bay Area do for the Japanese Straightening. She also cuts my husbands hair! She does a great job!
