Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

This is a great place to learn. Russel Bender is a great instructor and very knowledgeable in the art of Brazilian Jiu-​jitsu. They offer a free 7day trial, no pressure to join. I highly recommend to come visit the Charles Gracie fremont team.

I’ve been interested in self-​defense classes but kind of hesitant because most of the time I’ll be the only girl in the classes I go to and I am always worrying about being disrespected, taken advantage of and just being uncomfortable in general.
I found this academy here on Unilocal and I’m very glad I gave it a try. I am the only girl in the adults class (or sometimes Abby, the instructor’s daughter rolls with me), but not once did I feel unwelcome or uncomfortable. Every single one of them regardless of belief, sex, age and size is very respectful in every way. This is a very good family I am blessed to have joined! We train to be better jiu jitsu practicioners, partners and a better person. Russ is an awesome instructor who teaches us not only techniques in jiu jitsu but a little bit in life every single class. Give this place a try! I’m wishing for more ladies to join us! ;) you’ll love it here!

I realize that GBJJ has adult classes but my experience at this school is with their youth classes. My 5 year old started about 3 months ago. He’s not an uncommon boy in that he has a very short attention span and has difficulty focusing.
Russ Bender (Sensei/​Teacher/​Instructor) blends being firm with helping new children build skills that will reinforce their confidence as well as prepare them for the potential of a bully. Additionally, he places safety at the top of the list.
Classes are held at a facility where other schools meet and practice other martial arts but I like the GBJJ here because it’s smaller and the children get more personalized attention.
After 3 months, it appears clear that my son is turning a corner with regard to being better able to focus and it’s in no small measure a credit to the work Russ has done with him.
I know this school offers a 1 week try-​it free-​of-​charge. We started out that way. I would recommend this school to anyone that’s considering getting their child involved in martial arts.

Russ the instructor is a very knowledgeable teacher In this art. Knowing and participating in the school for over a year now I must say that my physical and mental strength is at top notch compared to when I started.
The school is big and well kept and best of all the hours are great for every one and you can attend any day of the week!

Great team feeling. Super recommend for younger kids. my daughter who is 4 soon to be 5 has been attending for 2 months and absolutely loves it. Instructor’s are awesome, friendly and patient but also stern and good at being positive. Good way for kids to learn discipline, respect and confidence.

When it comes to Jiu Jitsu, there are two important aspects–
1) Consistency. The more you get to practice to jiu jitsu, the better you will be.
2) Finding a gym that you’re comfortable in. Russ at Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu here in Fremont provides that safe haven to practice and train. I stumbled in during my winter break from school, looking for a place to work on my BJJ while I was back in town. Russ greeted me immediately and invited me to join them for the free trial. I knew that this was going to be the right place immediately as he really makes it feel like you’re a friend, and… well. customer I guess?
For those are are skeptical, just come in and try it. It’s a smaller class (at least when I went), which is actually a good thing — you get more one on one time with the instructor! I’ll definitely be coming back during my summer break.

Aside from being the only Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school in Fremont. Gracie Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu is by far the best school I have been to. I have tried out numerous of places all over the East Bay and South Bay but, once I checked this place out. I knew it was the proper place for me to begin my Jiu-​Jitsu training.
Russ is an excellent teacher who makes sure that ego’s are checked at the door before welcoming you to his mats with open arms. He cares about the development of his students and always has a variety of moves to teach so that your soaking in new techniques every class. After a few months you can already begin to see improvements not only in your skills but confidence wise as well.
I highly recommend people to try his class out. I almost guarantee that you will love the place and you’ll want to sign up right away !

Gracie Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu is one of the best schools i have been to in the past 6 years that i have done Jiu-​Jitsu. Russel is an excellent teacher and all of his students have the utmost respect for him. I have been going there for about 5 months now and i can already tell that my skills have stepped up a level than what they were before.
Russel always has clean mats and new moves to teach… some moves i havent even seen! He is honestly a really good teacher and he loves kids, he says they are fun and always willing to learn something new.

Gracie Jiu-​Jitsu was a very unknown school to me a couple of years back, then my 12 year old son just begged me to sign him up for a class. Russ the instructor gave us a couple of free lessons and my son just loved it so we signed him up for a year.
I must admit, it’s a great martial art. My son’s physical ability has increased 10 fold, his coordination is better than mine now and his confidence level is thru the roof. Moving into teen years is very difficult period in a young man’s life and giving him structure, discipline and self worth is paramount. He has gotten this from Gracie Jiu-​Jitsu and more.
My only problem is my son decided to put me in a choke hold the other day that I had a seriously difficult time getting out of. God help any bully who decides to tangle with him as he enters High School in the next couple of years,
All kidding aside, Russ the instructor is great with kids and adults alike. Most of the classes I have witnessed have a good mix of both, and the facility in Fremont is HUGE, clean and very well kept.
As far as I can tell, this school was a very good choice.
