This place is amazing & I wish it was bigger. Despite the space of the place, it’s popular & gets packed! I can understand why, because the food is delicious! Luckily, it’s inside of a plaza, for good parking. I never had Burmese food up until that day. My friends, boyfriend & I shared vegetarian samosas. As usual, I love samosas. For myself, I ordered the roasted garlic chicken noodle(dry.) it came with a «phở» broth on the side. Everything was so good!!! So happy I ordered a side of yellow rice to eat with it too. I was so satisfied with this everything. Service was really nice. All the girls there were very helpful. I can’t wait to go back to this place in the future. I highly recommend going there.

My parents are born and raised in Burma so grew up eating a lot of Burmese food. I’ve been to a good amount of Burmese restaurants in the Bay Area and I would say this is the most authentic one. I always get the paratha with beef curry; I like to drown the paratha in the curry until it gets soggy and roll it up with beef like a burrito. Seriously, try it. No one will judge you. For the main dish, I usually order the rice noodle salad and it comes with soup. The reason why I’m giving this place 5 stars is because of their falooda. Best one I’ve had at a Burmese restaurant. Let me google it and summarize it for you. It’s a cold beverage that consists of milk, rose syrup, vermicelli, psyllium, jelly thingies, and a scoop of ice cream. I’m lactose intolerant and I still order this. I’m a walking time bomb after eating it. I don’t mind getting destroyed because it’s just that good.

Wow. I only had one dish at Kyain Kyain, but it really impressed me! I ordered the yellow rice with beef on the Unilocal app, and it was ready as soon as I came to pick it up(15 minutes). First of all, the beef. It was REALLY tender and moist! There were a couple of pieces that were dry, but on the whole the beef was fantastic. They even included potatoes, which is a surefire way to win my heart. The portion was gigantic. I didn’t need dinner after eating this dish! The rice was a huge standout for me. It had raisins and peas, and wasn’t just a side to the beef. I loved the contrasts in texture & sweetness. The cucumber with noodles were great too as it added a nice hit of acid, coolness & crunchiness. So good. I didn’t add the fishy flakes that came with it because they were spicy. The attention to detail & balance of flavors here was wonderful. I’m already thinking about what I’ll try on my next visit!

I love this place!!! I tell everyone this is probably my most favorite place to eat in Fremont. You can’t beat the prices or service Ive been eat here at least twice a week for a few months now. I can’t rave enough about the Pork bone soup a cheap menu gem! And the paratha with curry(I’ve tried all 3 meat choices I prefer chicken) with the cucumber and onion side dish I’m never disappointed. The pork intestine is worth trying if you want to be adventurous. The owner is very sweet as well as all the staff one of the cooks came out and explained all the sauces on the table and gave me extra soup for my daughter. This place is cash only so don’t forget to bring enough for a tip!

I was looking to try something new in the area so I decided to Unilocal and see what was good around. The overall 4 star rating led me to look through the menu briefly to see if there was anything delicious. The roasted garlic noodle with chicken and the parantha with chicken curry caught my eye. How wrong can you go with a parantha with chicken curry? Well, it looks like you definitely can go wrong. The parantha is what you can buy at Ranch 99 on the freezer section and cooking at home is waaayyy better. This place drenched theirs in oil :(enough so that I had to use a napkin to dab at it or I knew it would make me feel sick later. Disappointing. The chicken curry it came with was not bad. The Garlic noodles were SOBLAND!!! I was really sad when I tasted it. You expect garlic noodles to taste like garlic and have some flavor. These were just thin flat egg noodles with a little chopped up garlic sprinkled on top. Very sad. –1.5 star for quality/taste of food, –1 star for extreme oil, –0.5 star for prices vs. quality. Will not be returning.

I have only tried the chicken curry and yellow rice and fish noodle soup main dishes. The curry chicken is savory and spicy and the cucumber/onion/pepper side with the fried shrimp is a good accent to the dish. The fish soup has a good amount of noodle and the broth is a good combination of rich yet still noodle soup broth-like– kind of like ramen broth consistency. My only suggestion, more meat. The chicken/rice dish comes with 2 drumsticks and though I tasted the fish in the soup, I didn’t really see/ate any pieces.

Kyain Kyain was an unexpected pleasure. it’s a low key eatery, no ambience/décor. no heating-even the chef is bundled up. menu not in burmese terms, just generic description, noodle soup, paratha with goat curry. eats: –tea leaf salad(9) premixed, tasty, hot spicy(chopped serrano chilis within), crunchy, fresh. portion smaller than competitors? –fish noodle soup(7, mohinga) fish and burmese noodles within, crunchy veggies on top, good broth/flavors only version tasted with no msg –paratha with goat curry(11) tender, fresh goat pieces in chilii oil bath small dish of veggies and triangle«wraps» one can wrap goat curry et al with. -.50 hot tea charge per person. leftovers: –maybe portions were smaller, no leftovers –decent pricing, opens at 10 for, good for early risers, beat the rice –no msg taste, only natural ingredients used, salt, sugar also not excessive 4.5 stars for unique tastes, bargain prices. –cash only

This place reminds me of my BF’s mom’s home cooking. It’s really good. Not as good as her cooking, but it’s close. We ordered the mohinga(catfish chowder), coconut chicken noodle soup, noodle salad, samosas, and paratha with beef curry. Everything was delicious, especially the coconut noodle soup and mohinga. Prices here are great too. They only take cash though, so watch out for that. Definitely come here for some authentic Burmese food!

I came with my brother near closing time, the restaurant was still relatively busy. This restaurant certainly has a home-y feel to it. The service was nothing special, kind of typical to your Asian-family-run restaurant. Our server was very kind but spoke so softly, could barely hear her! My brother ordered the pork dry noodles and I ordered the coconut curry noodles and falooda for dessert. The dessert came out first, but probably because it was a drink. It was good! Had a very floral flavor to it, had tapioca balls, jelly, ice cream, and some sort of bread pudding. My brother likened it to eating a candle. As for the meal, the noodles were overdone but the coconut curry broth was rich. The crispy onions in the pork noodle were good and as a whole had good flavor and plenty of toppings like liver and tripe. I will be coming back here again, but not with high expectations.

Been going here for the last year or so. .was one of my favorite places in the bay for authentic Burmese goodness. Tonight was a huge disappointment! Prices went up, portions got smaller and they changed the ingredients to my favorites that I have ordered time & time again. I think they might have changed owners or chefs but I am extremely unhappy with my meal. Ordered the goat curry and this time it was way too dry, the paratha was such a smaller portion to what they served before, my tea leaf salad was definitely a smaller portion, this time they left out the dried shrimp & added green tomatoes which was crunchy and tasteless(they usually serve it with cherry tomatoes which adds this light sweetness to the dish). This was my comfort place. .the meals I’ve had in the past would make me feel at home for some reason. Why must you do this to me? I will come back but to see if it was just an extremely off night or what I’m tasting is a betrayal on my taste buds. What’s going on Kyain Kyain…

My mom’s side grew up in Burma so I grew up eating Burmese food. Burmese restaurants were not so common when I was growing up, and that didn’t matter too much to me since we could get all the Burmese food we wanted at my grandma’s house. But now that I’m older, I do need to go in search for Burmese food on my own. I’ve been in search for a good Mohinga(fish chowder) and this one does it pretty well! I haven’t eaten here, but our work office orders take out from here pretty frequently. Coworker’s favorites are Mohinga(Fish Noodle Soup), Coconut Curry Chicken Noodle Soup, Tea Leaf Salad(great for sharing!), Pork Noodle Dry(soup on the side), Yellow Rice with Beef Curry. The restaurant isn’t fancy, it’s small and what you’d expect from a family-run restaurant. It is cash only so make sure you come prepared! If you haven’t had Burmese food before, definitely give it a try! It’s packed with flavor and is sure not to disappoint.

I had the M13 Roasted Garlic Noodles. It was to die for. The lady even gave us extra garlic with peppers on the side, we nearly finished the entire jar! It came with some peppered soup and pickled cucumber and onions. We just threw the cucumber and onions straight into the garlic noodles for even more flavoring, although the noodles didn’t need more of it. This place is down the street from my work so I wouldn’t be surprised if we decided to order company lunch from them. It is that good. Tips: 1. Parking kind of sucks(same parking lot as 5 other restaurants) 2. Cash only

This is one of the very few few times, I will ever change my review from 1 start all the way up to 4! I have actually been here now twice since my first time, and boy is it different now. The grumpy man that gave me a partially eaten bowl of noodles is no longer there, and all you will see now are smiles and kind service. YAY They have also added to their menu more items to choose from. The yummy Garlic Chicken noodle is no longer M8, but now M13. Food is now a 4⁄5 and service 5⁄5 I will be back to try the beef and paratha. soon: D

Came here to try out their famous Tea Leaf Salad(shredded cabbage, tea leaves, garlic, crunch peanuts, special sauce). It is definitely something unique in flavor and a must try. If you are thinking it’s going to be remotely comparable to a Wedge salad, then you will not like this salad. If you are in the mood to try something different, then definitely try this place out.

*Cash Only* Really good. First time trying Burmese food. Not totally sure what condiments were supposed to go with what. Some of the flavors were really tasty, and some were not what I’m used to(mostly the fermented stuff). So must be authentic! ;) Nice Mom & Pop restaurant that’s hidden away in a strip mall with a random array of stores and restaurants. (Like this: nsfw language, put on headphones… , skip to 1:47 or just listen to whole thing because it’s funny! Or this ) This strip mall has the Pizza Guys on one corner.

The rice here is really pretty! That was my first thought when our food came out. It was yellow rice with many orange specks and tasted great. The dish came with one chicken drumstick, which I felt was not enough protein/substance to balance out the huge pile of rice that came along with it. The chicken was flavorful and tender, but I do wish they served a bit more chicken with the dish. The ambience was okay, nothing special and not much décor inside. They have a fair amount of seating, although definitely not enough considering how popular they are. We went on a Sunday around 1PM and there was no line, thankfully.

Burmese food FTW! Yes, I have found my new favorite asian cuisine! & its all thanks to Kyain(and no thanks for Burmese Superstar… seriously, that place is overrated…) Fish Noodle Soup: Packed with flavor! Soft noodles and savory soup! So heartwarming. Chicken Curry: The chicken literally fell off the bone, man was it tender! Oh, and that yellow rice! Again, more amazing flavor! & to top it off, everything was relatively cheap! We got 2 medium sized soups and the rice curry all for $ 24 bucks! Talk about getting your bang for your buck!

I’ve been to Kyain Kyain a few times now, and it’s been pretty good. Located in a small strip mall with a few other restaurants and businesses. Also with limited parking. I’ve been here twice with my mom and once with my best friend and well they both liked the food here as well. You know this is a legit Burmese restaurant as when you come to dine here, you cab clearly see that Burmese people come to dine here. It’s legit when the majority of the customers are Burmese. It’s a family run business that serves homestyle Burmese cuisine. I’ve had the pleasure of trying a few different dishes here. Coconut Chicken Noodle Soup Curry Beef with Yellow Rice Chicken Roasted Garlic Noodle Burmese Style Fish Noodle Soup Can’t really remember what my best friend had but I remember he liked his dish. So score! The restaurant itself is really small, the kitchen takes up alot of the restaurant space. There are maybe about 15 seats or less I would say? Ther service is okay, when their busy not that attentative. You have to request water now, that’s not automatically given anymore. CASHONLY as well… They close extremely early at 2pm and 8pm. I’ve only been here for lunch, so they close up early. They start cleaning up at 1:30 and closing the kitchen at around that time so the chefs are out of the kitchen by 2pm sharp! Get here early!

If this is going to be your first time trying Burmese food, don’t go here. I am so glad it wasn’t my first time trying Burmese food because I don’t think I would have wanted to try it again after eating here. My first time was at Rangoon Ruby and this restaurant is a far cry from that! We didn’t order too much, but roti with lamb and some chicken curry, which did not look very appetizing. We also ordered tea leaf salad which was too salty and did not taste very fresh and had tiny little dried shrimp which made the salad taste worse. This was a dish I was looking forward to having because I enjoyed it at Rangoon Ruby but can’t go there all the time so wanted to try it here. I was generous with a $ 5 tip on our $ 30 bill but the service was just okay. This is not a very classy restaurant. P. S.–This is a cash only restaurant.

It’s quite tiresome reading Unilocalers score Kyain Kyain low for the following reasons: 1) It’s not like Burma Superstar 2) Some items are too greasy 3) They don’t like Burmese food in general — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — - Here are my responses: 1) Burma Superstar is not the best if you know Burmese food. Tea leaf salad will NOT be served tableside in an establishment like Kyain Kyain because it’s not a place that will incorporate showy antics to please non-Burmese patrons. If you come here, it’s always packed with at least 90% Burmese people and If you know the food, they serve home style/comfort foods here. It’s just like how my mom made it growing up and how I’ve had it in Burma. 2) That’s just how paratha and the curries are. Paratha is similar to naan but it can’t be compared to it because a lot more oil is required when making the dough. Also, the curries are like that too. If you don’t like it, you can drain it on a napkin. 3) Unilocalers really need to stay objective when eating foods they like and do not like, especially in a cuisine they’re unfamiliar with. I’m guilty of this too with Ethiopian food.
