I used to like this place a lot. Huge portion and food was tasty, not over cooked or under cooked. I bought bento box today and the chicken was way over cooked and its dry and salty. The price has gone up a lot. Used to be $ 7 – 8 but now $ 10. I probably won’t be coming back as there are a lot of good Taiwanese food in Fremont.

How this place has gone down hill! I used to live in San Jose and their bento boxes were of very good quality — fresh meat, veggies, good portion, and tasted authentic. Then I moved away. And all their locations closed except this one. I came back recently and noticed the price increased a lot. The store was completely empty the whole time I was there. They changed their containers to make it look bigger but the portion is actually smaller. They give you less meat and the meat was mostly just outer coatings and fat. The meat was also over cooked like it’s been in the fryer a long time, maybe it’s not fresh. It’s also not fresh veggies anymore but some mixed veggies. Extremely disappointed and will not be returning.

Tasty fried vermicelli, especially it has the pickled mustard vege topping. Occasionally we also buy marinated pork intestine.

So we had just got off hiking mission peak and decided that we need to have some Boba. We Unilocal’ed around and found the place next door. So I walk into this place for no reason just to see what they had. Talked to one of the guys but wasn’t really interested in any of the menu items. Then all of a sudden they pull out some roasted duck and I knew I had to taste. It looked to good to just walk away forever. I ordered a bowl of duck and rice and was not disappointed. Compliments to the chef.

I grew up in Taiwan and this is very authentic Taiwanese comfort food. Bento box is very authentic. We had our homesick treatment there.

I’ve been coming for years to what my kids now lovingly call«the pieces-parts» place. Tea-smoked duck is a staple, as are the stewed parts — heart, shank, hocks and other yummies. Have everything thin-sliced if you’re going to eat it within a couple days or leave it whole for longer storage. Lots of people come for the traditional Taiwan-style bentos and drinks, but for me it’s all about the stewed things from Won’s Stew House.

YumMm. I grew up eating Wan Jia Xiang’s Taiwanese bentos, and I recently got to revisit my childhood by snarfing down one of their zhu jiao(soy sauce braised pork hock) bentos. For me, nirvana is a styrofoam box filled with lu rou fan, pickled veggies, stewed soy sauce eggs and beancurd, steamed baby bok choy, and a huge pile of stewed pork hocks/fried chicken or pork cutlets. My bento was as good as I remembered(alright, maybe saltier than I remembered) and featured the same prices, portions and satiated warm fuzzies of yesteryear. I bought two boxes of marinated pig ears to take home, hoping to prolong the memory for as long as the pig ears lasted(which, sad to say, was all of another 48 hours… because gluttony.) and spent less than $ 13 total on a wonderful soy sauce & five spice-infused spread that could feed a family. When you leave home and travel the U. S(or even just ride up the BART line toward SF) you begin to realize how many authentic culinary gems reside in the little strip malls that you take for granted. I will be back, Won Stew House!

Don’t buy their bento card !! In case they close the store. They used to have three stores, when they close the one in Laundy, they did not give further information and still sold me the bento card a week before it closed. Since they only have one store left, I strongly recommand not to buy the bento card.

WARNING! They lie to you here. They don’t accept the bento cards if you didn’t buy it from this exact location. False advertising! I wanted to use up my bento card since I had one stamp left and was in the area. They told me to go to a store that wasn’t even part of their chain anymore. Plus, all their locations are closing down one by one. Goes to show how well their business is. Not coming back.

Grew up in Cupertino, LOVE their Cupertino location. Their food is always awesome for a fellow Taiwanese myself. Can’t Complain. HOWEVER, we recently relcoated to Fremont temporarily and wanted to grab food from a place that we will like for sure. First off, the lady who greeted us tonight(we just visited this location about an hour ago) She was a little standoff-ish but very friendly toward their usual patrons that stop in, saying hi and warmly greeting their usuals. I turned down her offer for the bento box card and she was NOT in the mood for chatting. Mind you, the entire conversation was in Mandarin so it was not due to the language barrier. Next thing I knew all these people swarmed in, phone orders and pick ups all showed up. She started looking very anxious. That’s when I noticed that she handed drinks that other customers ordered while they wait for their bento orders but not me. She did not make my milk tea for the whole 10 mins we waited there.(we ordered 2 bento boxes, 1 tea) Then as a courtesy, hubby & I decided to stop by Safeway really quickly before we head home and so I went over to inform her that we’ll be right back. «Hi Ah-yi(aunty, as polite as I can put it) I will run over for some groceries and will be right back oh!» She basically stared at me, did not respond whatsoever. It was kind of embarrassing but we were like ok she looked at me so I’m sure she heard me. When I came back for the food, she pushed my orders toward me and walked away. I still felt the need to say thank you as my mama has taught me well. But where are her manners? As I said«Thank you(xie xie oh!)» She never even once acknolwedged me. From the get go, food here is solid but her service attitude needs some update. I am still a customer no matter what, maybe I looked younger than she’s used to but that is not a way to treat anyone. I read from another fellow reviewer that he also received similar treatment, perhaps he was right. If she’s discriminating people before we’re from different areas although we’re all Chinese then she should be fired. Sadly, I will be back to my usual Cupertino location. (SEEATTACHEDPICS for their $ 2.50 milk tea, she didn’t even fill it to the top…)

Chinese people have fast food too. And this is exactly what it is. All these people giving this place low ratings should understand what they’re eating. Would you rate Mcdonald’s a five star place? Um no. Did you not see that Super Size Me fella? This isn’t a Subway Jerry joint either. Chinese fast food is made to be a quick filler so you can go home to your wifey’s home cooking. It’s designed to be quick, tasty, and cheap. This place gets a solid 3 stars because they’re dependable but it’s not one of those I gotta have it every day type deals. Do yourself a favor and pick up the combo card. It saves a little bit of money and you get a free drink with every meal. Red tea for the win.

No business ethics. lieing, worst service. Hostess was chatting with a customer in Shanghainese when I walked in. I ordered pork chop. when the bento box was ready, the hosttess checked and told that customer to wait a min because preserved vegetable is out and she asked kitechen to make some. It will be ready in 2 – 3 minutes, then she told him sh would give the bento to me first. I took it and went to back to my car to check, I don’t have preserved vegetable. I went ack to ask her. Firstly, she said I should told her before, what! you did not give me something you should give and told me to tell you? Secondly, I asked her why that person has that and I don’t have it? She said he does not have it either. My parents spoke Shanghainese at home and I understand exactly what said and I was so mad. She not only does not have business ethics but also discrimate people from different province even we are Chinese. I wil never go there again. As for the food, the pork chop is paper thin, too much crump and over fried.

Service is horrible here. They advertised free milk tea with bento card purchase. But when we requested it, they said no and took the sign down immediately. Do they make up the rules as they go??? Not cool. After I use up my prepaid card, I’m never coming back. If I could give zero stars I would.

No, no no no no no… You did not just HANGUP my phone. This is unbelievable! You not only tell a customer that you’re too busy to wait for customer to decide what item they want(since the one I want is sold out), and when the customer just rush and spoke out which dish they decide to change to, the phone got disconnected! Oh, maybe I lost connection. So I re-dial to confirm if they got my last order(total of 4 item). Guess what I heard? «I’m the only one who’s taking care of the counter, the chef is making your order already.» WTF! You hang up my phone because you’re too busy? So what? Making customer call again to confirm order does not save you time does it?! You kidding me?! This place SUCKS! No one, no one will ever, never, making me order from them AGAIN!

I absolutely worship this place and lament the fact that I moved so far away that I couldn’t eat here more often. Truth be told I’ve only had their pork chop bento and pearl tea. The bento was so good I haven’t been able to move onto other items on their menu yet, and I’ve eaten here quite often when i used to live in Fremont. I also buy their dumplings and other items in the fridge. I really like the smoked tofu duck. I’ve been seriously craving their pork chop bento since last week. I might just have to drive 1 hour to Fremont tomorrow to do nothing except pick up a bento… is that too obsessive?

I’ve never gotten their bento boxes or pearl teas, but when I’m breezing through town, I come here to stock up on smoked chicken and smoked duck. The staff make quick work of chopping it up and boxing it for me. So flavorful and delicious. The bones make for a great soup base afterwards. Mmm, soup.

This is yet another branch of the popular chain, which is also found in Milpitas( ) and San Jose( ). The funny thing is that although I often rotate between the three, I seem to run into the same employees and cooks at each one! I know people say all Chinese look alike, but this is taking it to another level. The next time that happens, I just might have to run for the nearest phone booth because it could be Agent Smith hunting me down! In any event, as with the San Jose branch, I’ll have to deduct one star due to limited seating and an uninviting exterior. There is a park table and bench outside, but it is in very poor condition. One time, I almost lost my meal to the birds, as the table tilted over backwards. Good thing I caught my footing in time.
