I love coming here. This is a small Laos market located right across the street from Golden Bowl. The selection of fresh fruits and vegetables are limited but they do offer a very cool little deli that serves up dishes only your mom or older siblings know how to make. I’m talking about the old school Laos food like bamboo shoot with pork or old school fish dish I think you call it «ouk ba“or steamed fish with all the asian plants. They also have chicken and sticky rice, sausage with sticky rice, and other desserts. Their chicken is very strong in taste. I love it. The service is also very friendly. The store has all the Asians spices and nam van in the fridge. Nam van is tapioca dessert with coconut milk. The price is affordable too.

Good is Great in my book. I always go here when I feel like eating something different and out of the norm. or I want to drink something refreshing(coconut water) Place is alway busy during lunch you see people from all walks of life. Parking is limited but they get us customers handled so the wait for parking is not usually more than a minute or two. Chile paste is hotter than heck but taste bomb. Jose one of my employees loves there chicken and although scarce there Fried Rice.

Great deli with always freshly made hot food(or if you prefer made to order). Most of the food is hardcore(but not too hardcore) Lao and Vietnamese food(nothing like the watered down«Thai food,» which to me is a marketed tidbit sample of various Southeast Asian cuisines dumbed down for gullible White folks). The guys at the register speak good English, don’t be shy. They told me this place use to be owned by a Thai lady who sold the business to a Lao couple(who by the way are Fresno State grads with Business degrees & they have really turned this place around). They are very helpful and if you want to make sure your order is to your liking, just tell them and they’ll translate the message to the cooks in the back(the cooks themselves don’t speak the best English, they understand Lao & Thai). I wouldn’t recommend their Banh Mi sandwiches though(go get a better tastier and fresher one that is not shrink wrapped over at Saigon Grocery & Deli which is the next street over behind Golden Bowl Asian Grocery Market). I came here during rush hour(lunch hour). People working from the downtown area(suits) and just about everyone flooded to this place. Word of mouth spreads fast! Parking can be somewhat chaotic when they get busy, plus the parking lot is small. Also, word of advice, if you come here and see a huge influx of Hmong and Mexican families parking and making their way to go inside, try and beat them to the punch. Food will sell out quick and then you’ll have to wait a good 10 to 20 minutes before they can bring out more. I am not joking. I’ve been here several times and it’s like this every time whenever there is a huge crowd of them(not to offend but it is the truth). It’s usually like this from after 11:30 am and then again around maybe 3 or 4 pm. If you are lucky, go there when they barely open(I believe 10 am) or from 1 to 2 pm. You’ll still get fresh and hot food, not leftovers.

The interior and exterior are very dirty. The shelves and vegetable areas have grime on them. The floors are very dusty. The parking lot is spacious, which is a plus. They sell Vietnamese food which is actually decent.

AC Market has a deli section where you can order grilled chicken(gai yang), papaya salad(som thom), pork salad(moo yang) and various dried and grilled fish and beef(neau waan hang) and other Isaan/Lao goodness. The only problem I have with the place is that the papaya salad is consistently on the salty side. I swear that 90% of all restaurant food I eat in the US is too salty, but I always tell the cook here to lay off the fish sauce. Despite this admonition I end up downing a quart of water after my meal to desalinate. I dunno, maybe all the cook sees is a white ‘Mericun lady ordering, so she assumes that I want a little papaya salad with my salt.

If you don’t mind the out of the way locale and the fact that it’s like being in Southeast Asia, this market has really good deals on ethnic goods that you’d normally not find in a mainstream grocery store. They’ll also likely have things for much cheaper if you can find it elsewhere, from farms and gardens that are local and recently harvested.
