My last review was for the library in clovis. This is my actual review for this branch on dakota. In comparing the 2, it’s no contest. Clovis library is nicer, cleaner, bigger and upgraded. This library is tiny. I can stand in the front door and take in the entire library in one glance. It’s in a small, beat up shopping center and the parking lot had a lil hill in the middle to parking there is weird and minimal. They have a self check out and free wifi. There are touch computers for the kids and a little play area there too. Here is the thing when you offer that at the library: it’s nice to have that for parents to supervise their kids whole they play but that’s not what people do. At one point, I was there with maybe 10 kids and 3 are mine. The parents were near by but not watching them at all. Okay, fine. But if you’re the last to leave that area, guess what? The mess that everyone’s kids just made is now yours to pick up. I picked up about 3 times and had kids come in and destroy it all again before I realized, if I don’t leave now then I’m going to be left doing this while the other parents just sit there and watch me. I’m sure others would’ve helped but not in this case with these people. Then some little girl was rude to my daughter so I just about had it. I’d love to take them at a time when there are no other kids or a very little amount of kids but idk what a good time is. I’ve yet to figure that out. If I have another bad experience, I’ll write it off. It not worth it no matter how close it is to my house. I’d rather drive to clovis if it means my kids can be at peace and I’m not left babysitting and cleaning up after everyone. I can stay home for that. I gave it a 3 because they had read along books on CD and I didn’t see that at the clovis branch. I love those. Used them as a kid and I love that my kids can use them too.

I think it’s pretty kewl that this branch does community events. I’m here doing hw on the side with tables + plugs, while there are kids huddled around watching a dance performance for St. Patrick’s Day. Become a Friend of the Gillis Branch to have more community events and pay for wifi lol. Wifi is free but they said that they have funding for 6 months(from the date I write this blog). There’s a fair amount of plugs for laptops and stuff. It’s got the usual kid talking to himself with the ipod or messing around and whatnot.
