I hate posting negative feed back about food places but this place was bad! The lady working was sweet but that was the only good thing! By the way if you read the previous reviews from 2013 there is a guy who comments on the fact that the soda machine was broken well two years later it’s still broken! Not that I even ordered a soda but I just thought that was hilarious. Anyways if you like mediocre deli meat on average bread then this is your place. I won’t be back.

Great food, kind working women behind the counter, overall everyone should give it a try. I have had a few different things from the menu and everyone has their favorites. They are a local business so I love supporting local restaurants. The drinks out of a can do not bother me, what’s the difference really if they come from a can or a machine. I recommend the French Dip, or the Calzone!

I have been going to this restaurant since I was a child(in the 1960s) when it was at Farmer’s Market on Divisadero. The beef sandwich gives you lots of meat and the barbeque sauce is delicious. I usually ask for extra sauce so I can dip my sandwich in it for extra flavor. It has changed over the years from the original recipe but is still delicious. I get the salad with the original oil and vinegar dressing(which is not for everyone as it has lots of garlic and vinegar) or you can get beans or fries. It is near Hoover High School so during the school year on weekdays from 11 – 1 pm is probably not the best time to go.

You must try their Calzone #2. It is delicious and one is enough for the two of us. They are very nice people who run this place.

First time here today. Suggested by a co-worker(Jen) that we go and have the chicken sammich. Nothing fancy about the place just your regular mom & pop shop. We both ordered the BBQ chicken sammich. I had a side of fries while Jen had a side salad along with a fountain drink. The chicken sammich was served on a sub roll. It was very tasty and filling. A generous amount of juicy sliced chicken and just the right amount of BBQ sauce was between the soft yet crunchy bread for me. Jen got some sauce on the side to dip in. The fries were like steak cut fries and tasted way better than McDonald’s grease blistered fries. I will definitely be back to try the chicken club sammich. ;-)

This was my first time trying this place. I ordered a roast beef sandwich and it was pretty good. I also got a side of fries and they were not that great. My meal was cheap, for an 8 inch sandwich and a side of fries it came out to around $ 7. I would go back for the sandwich though.

We had takeout and enjoyed it. Grew up with the original location on Divisidaro. Same great salad dressing and I like the b-b-q sauce. This isn’t fine dining but it was a nice change, will be back.

Been eating here since they were in the old farmers market. A good twenty years. If you are expecting a very sweet honey bbq then you are going to be disappointed. For those of you that gave bad reviews I’m sorry you were disappointed. They would not have lasted this long if they were as bad as you say. They serve a large sandwich. And I personally have never been disappointed. It’s fresh and tasty. I like to dip it in ranch.

I don’t like to pile on but giving this place one star is being charitable. As a fan of barbecue and owner of two smokers myself, I think I know what good barbecue is. Their’s isn’t. The only reason we ended up with it is Morticia happened to drive by and got an order before I could stop her. We certainly won’t make that mistake again. Everything was bland. We had brisket, pork, chicken, and ribs and there was not the slightest hint of smokiness to be found in anything. Even worse, the ribs had been boiled. For real barbecue that is blasphemous because it gives it an unmistakably bad taste. The sauces and beans weren’t any better. The best part of the order were the french fries. Thankfully, there are some good places in town for when I’m too lazy to do it myself. This is not one of them.

This is a restaurant that is in its death spiral. I should have known something was up when the lights were all dim inside, the soda machine was broken and they were serving cans from a container with ice, or the store bought catsup bottles on the tables. The staff was friendly enough, and our food came out quickly, however it just wasn’t very good. The beef on my «BBQ» beef sandwich was not very good, in fact there was no BBQ taste to be found at all, the meat actually had a somewhat microwaved taste. As for the BBQ sauce, well don’t even get me started on that either, because the sauce was basically just tomato sauce. I am not sure how this place has stayed in business for so long, I remember when they were at their old location on Blackstone, and the food was just as terrible then.

The pangs of a restaurant in its death spiral. They are clearly shopping at Costco for their food and supplies, because Sysco won’t take their business. That wasn’t BBQ sauce. It was canned pasta sauce. Sorry.

WOW! Just when you need a «no star» options for a restaurant and Unilocal doesn’t allow it. A place that serves«BBQ», Italian, and Mexican should not even be a restaurant. I ordered the short ribs thinking I was going to get ribs. They asked me if i wanted spaghetti and I figured it would probably be a side item so I agreed. What I got was a big mound of spaghetti with boiled beef and a vomit looking marinara. I took one bite of the beef and it was tasteless and dry. Spaghetti was very unappetizing. There is ten dollars I will never get back and 15 minutes of waiting for my so called food that I will never get back either.

I’m a long time Fresnan and have fond memories of this place from the«original» Farmers’ Market– leaky roof and everything. I went there on a Friday night about 7:30, only two other patrons in the place. TV is obnoxious, there to take your mind off the lack of atmosphere. The fries were undercooked and the sandwich lackluster. I am pretty sure the barbeque sauce is not homemade. The salad dressing is what I remember– sweet and savory. Other than that, a huge disappointment. They must stay in business from their«Hoover High Specials.» So it’ll be another 40 years until I come back. If I’m alive then!

I drove by this place a few weeks ago and looked it up on Unilocal to see what the good word was and to my suprise there was no listing for Roundup. I said to myself lets give it a try so I stopped by for lunch. Hmm, 12:30 and only one other soul in the place, maybe it’s a late crowd. Non-discript yellow painted walls with nothing on them, plain Jane tables and not much going on inside except soaps on the tv. Well thats ok because they’re going to blow me away with their food. I went to the counter and the nice girl took my order of a pork sandwich with fries and a glass of water. As I waited for my lunch I searched it again this time noticing in the auto-fill that I had seperated Round Up, so I corrected my mistake and pow, there is Matt P. s enlightening review. Too little, too late for me, I’ve paid and I’m stuck. Should I run for the door or take one for the team? Here’s your answer. How do you make meat so bland? It’s unreal how little flavor this meat has. Take a bite of the air in front of you and thats how my lunch tasted. This hunts tomatoe sauce they put on their sandwiches is not bbq sauce, it has less appeal than ketchup. The water tasted like lead and arsenic, no filter? Change the name to Roundup Roasted Meat because there isn’t any bbq going on in here. There’s a sign that reads the original bbq from the Farmers Market since 1947. What does that mean? Where is this market? Damnit my stomach is paying the price for my lunch and now I want answers!

(1.5 Rating) Damn, I would give this place 1 star, but I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt because this is the first time I’ve come here. I’ve passed by this place a MILLION times, as I am always on the search for good barbecue. Every time I slowly pass by this place however, I hesitate to go in because it simply just looks shoddy. Not only shoddy and dirty lookin, but you do not think ‘BBQ’ when you see this place. Anyways, I took the plunge and finally tried it the other day. Boy did I regret it. Don’t you hate when you’re hungry as hell, eat a shitty meal, and end up thinking ‘what a fucking waste of precious stomach space that was!?’ Am I right people? I mean, jesus christ, we humans get only THREE square meals a day(if that even). In this sense, one should really make at least one of those meals ‘count.‘ I walk-up to the counter and proceed to ask the absolutely clueless looking cashier ‘so, what’s good here? What do people usually get?“ And with a blank, unconfident stare, she replied: «…Uhh…barbecue… sandwich… beef…» I was like, «lets go for it then, ring me up!» Anyways, by the looks of this place, I was REALLY hoping this was one of those«hole in the wall but delicious food» type of places. Fuck no. So I unwrap the damn sandwich from the wrapper — and it’s a mess, covered in bbq sauce — but no big deal, I expect this. Great tasting food doesn’t need to be clean, so get over it Matt. I proceed to take the first bite, and immediately I’m thinking in my head ‘where’s the taste? Okay, well… just keep chewing Matt… wait till you get down at least 2 – 3 more bites until you criticize…“ Now smash-cut to nearly 75% if the consumed sandwich; long story short, this was my experience for the entire meal — looking for the TASTE! The ‘sauce’ was more tomatoey than anything it seemed, with an almost acidic taste. Basically, it was literally ‘tomato sauce /paste’ it seemed like. I did not get the hint of sweetness or ‘bbq’ at ALL. As far as the beef itself, i might as well have eaten pork, chicken, lamb, or fucking dog — I couldn’t tell, and it didn’t matter. I can’t explain how pissed and disappointed I was. The food just seemed SOHALF-ASS! Imagine this — take someone that doesn’t know how to cook, and tell them to make you their interpretation of what a ‘bbq beef’ sandwich tastes like. This is what an amateur cook would do: they’re gonna fuckin get some sliced beef, or steak… a can of tomato paste… combine it… then proceed to put it in a hoagie roll or whatever the fuck. Yea, it’s like If you had your 10 year old kid brother make you a BBQ sandwich — amateur, simple, and a LITERAL translation. This is what the sandwich tasted like here. It was a literal three components: sliced beef, tomato paste, bread — these are the ONLY flavor profiles here. So, bottom-line, for my FIRST time here, this place sucked ASS if you couldn’t already guess. Will I give this place a 2nd chance however? Nope. It’s one of those places where you’re like, «yea I’ve finally tried this place, eaten it once — it tasted like shit — will I come back to give them another try though? fuck that.» It was just so bad this first time, I’m not gonna go a second time thinking there’s going to be some miraculous fucking sea-change event that will fix the offensively bad sandwich I had earlier. If anything, this place gets at least 1 star for hot, cooked to order french fries. But that’s it – nothing unique. This place wasn’t even on Unilocal actually. it was so bad and offensive, I actually took the fuckin time to ‘add a business’ just so I can talk shit on this place. MAJOR disappointment. I am currently checking this dump off my list of ‘places to try’ — and good riddance.
