What a gem. Had been a while but went there for lunch with my friend yesterday when was the last time you went to a restaurant spend $ 15 and had two containers leftovers to take home I strongly suggest the menu item«The Set up» it is all of the sides the offer we could be soup salad and bread potato salad and another item plus ice cream for 850

Thought my husband and I would enjoy a nice meal and a cocktail but that didn’t happen. The bartender had major attitude and maybe one waitress working at this time, she sat us down in the bar section and didn’t see her till it was too late, bartender could have easily asked as if we wanted a beer, but rasta boy decided he was above coming out from behind the bar. If you’re not a regular… don’t go.

They’re doing it right! Always consistent, good food, great wine selection(especially by the glass). Great bartenders and great local people. Karaōke on Thursday nights. If you dine in be expecting a lot of good food that keeps coming and coming basque style. Love this place! It’s local and its quaint.

This place does not serve Basque food. Check the menu before you go. The food they do serve is mediocre, at best, and very overpriced. I wouldn’t touch under the table for fear of finding old chewing gum.

Had lunch. The lentil soup, green salad, potato salad(no shrimp anymore) & lamb shank special of the day were good. Too many carbs(starches). A white bean creamy salad instead of Basque boiled beans, a pasta with cream sauce instead of a stew side dish. So with the bread & the rice with entrée there were 5 starches. What happened to the traditional Basque side dish servings of boiled Basque beans & stew side dishes? Our waiter Pablo was very nice & a very good waiter. I think $ 16.95 was a little high for this lunch considering every thing but the lamb is very inexpensive.

The food was so delicious. We celebrated a birthday here today. Three of our party of 8 had steak which was excellent. The pork chop was cooked perfect and tasted great. The soup was lentil and was also delicious. The side was spaghetti and meatballs yum! Doris is an awesome waitress. This will definitely be a place we will come back to. The bar looked very inviting and we will be back to hang out there.

Our favorite Basque Restaurant closed it’s doors and we have been trying to find a replacement for months. This just may be it!!! The Soup was amazing! Potato salad with shrimp… YES! Delicious. Fried Chicken with LOTS of minced garlic… YUM! We will definitely be back!

I ate here with my family two years ago and it was not what we expected. We expected a sumptuous Spanish and French cuisine but instead we got ‘Grandma’s week old left overs’ which consisted of this sausage potato soup, hard bread, low quality big spaghetti noodles with sour marinara and some other stuff. Poor quality and poor execution. We also each got a big steak which was a great portion size however, the quality was not very good. The basque from old country would be very offended by this restaurants execution, portrayal and representation that they would not want to be associated with this restaurant and all its staff and owners. Prices were expensive too for what they were asking. The service was horrible and our waitress’ personality was very dry and unfriendly. Before dining we asked our waitress if we could sit by the air conditioner, she was very condescending and she just beat around the bush and did not want to move us so we had to stay where we originally were. Although their archaic fans were spinning, they were spinning unproductively as it was still extremely hot inside. The place is heavily aging both on its interior and exterior. In addition, their dinnerware and silverware are outdated too. I would never come here again. This place is in dire need of Chef Robert Irvine’s help from the food network show, Restaurant Impossible.

It’s been a while since I’ve written a review, but this place you gotta to check out. It reminds me of places I used to go to while growing up in Wisconsin. Awesome home cooked taste, comfortable environment, plenty of good stuff to drink, and reasonable prices. 23 bucks for half chicken, salad, soup, bread, and three 22 ounce beers. Good deal! The fried chicken is spot on, and I think my grandma must have come back from the dead and is now working in the kitchen here. The vegetable soup tasted exactly like hers. Yum! Highly recommended.

I haven’t been here in awhile, but I’ll write a review according to memory & experience. The big plus here is ambience. The fresh linen table décor and back soft light make this elegant dining. It is very nice for special occasions because of the memorable décor, & the Basque style servings gives you plenty of time to relax & enjoy it. I can’t say the food quality is anything extraordinary, just suitable. To me, the ambience is the whole thing, this is not a fancy New York diner. There’s an obviously neighborhood type old fashion bar frequented by familiar locals, and an occasional live band will set up in the bar room.

went in for the first time, very nice family style dinner where the(setup) included was bread, soups, salads, Hot and cold side dish, and entrée. These were the course before the main entrée. I was so full by the time I received it because there was so much going on. everything came out delicious.

I come here exactly one time a year to eat, on my mom’s birthday. Every time October rolls around I know I will have to subject myself to eating at this place, and each time its the same experience over and over again. Lets get one thing out of the way here, the service at this place is terrible. The waitresses are usually either extremely unfriendly and forget things and never check on you, or are friendly and forget things and never check on you. Part of this seems to be that a lot of times they only have one waitress for the entire dining room, but even nights like tonight where there are 3 waitresses, it still took forever to get what you needed. The second major problem I have is that the price of most of the food is way higher than the quality you get. The only sub $ 20 item on the menu is their fried chicken which is just ok, every other item is $ 22 and up, and the quality just isn’t there. The steaks always have a lot of gristle, and the lamb always seems to be dry. The only saving grace is the side dishes are usually pretty ok, but the quality of the entrees and the severe lack of service do not make it worth the trip here in my opinion.

I wanted to like this place… it was a little weird, in a weird location and the atmosphere is weird but sometimes weird isn’t cool, sometimes it is just weird. The food was not that great, I was disappointed.

Original review below, I had rated the place a 4 star. Sadly their quality has deteriorated. They still have the good sized portions, but they were out of a couple things that I have always looked forward to when I went in, the meat was not as high quality(too much fat on it) and the cooking did not show its usual excellence. I’m wondering if someone should see if Chef Ramsey or Chef Robert would be willing to make an appearance(Kithcehn Nightmares or Restaurant Impossible) in Fresno. It would be sad to see this restaurant fall by the wayside because of a poorly trained replacement cook or anything. I’d have to say this is my favorite place in the city to eat. They always have great lamb, but I must admit some of the other food is often hit or miss. Especially the spaghetti. The portion sizes are good though, and they serve it family style, with a salad and a bowl of soup or stew to share around for everyone. And plenty of hot bread in a basket and butter. The staff are always friendly & helpful, and if you like alcoholic beverages, I highly recommend the Sangria. But not more than 2, it tastes great & you’ll want more, but it packs a wallop.

Not good; excessive quantities of low quality food. Poor execution, poor authenticity. Many of the older ethnic restaurants suffer from the same problem: a more aware and worldly eating public. You can no longer surf on tradition. This isn’t Basque food, it’s meat and potatoes American. The wine was the only thing that was remotely close. The service, however was very nice, great helpful waiter.
