I grew up visiting this bakery on a regular basis. It has changed hands a few times over the years, but I love the fact that any time I return to Fresno, I can count on Simpson’s being the same. Their cakes are great, but it is their butter-sprinkle cookies that keep bringing me back during my visits to Fresno. They are buttery, not overly sweet, and delicious. The bakery is a bit pricy, but I love the fact that they’ve basically been the same place for the past forty years.

I have had a few things from here before and they were good so for my man’s birthday, I thought I would try them. I went in and the cases were pretty empty, didn’t see anyone so said hello a few times(I could hear someone in back) No answer. I found the binder o cakes myself on the counter, thumbed through it and found what I was after… HELLO??? HELLLLLLLOOOOOOOO??? Still no answer, so I went behind the counter and into the back to get the help I needed! After a short, hard to understand conversation with the man, I walked out and will not be back! The prices listed on the outdated binder o cakes, are not correct in fact the prices are about $ 10 more than listed. I went across the street to Save mart & got what I wanted for a fraction of the price & not charging me extra for all the stuff I wanted. Oh and Simpson’s, this is Fresno @ the end of July.. . TURNONTHEACMAN! Who can operate a business with no AC?

I’ve been purchasing baked goods here for the past few years now and I must say I’ve never been disappointed! Suggestions: Their bear claws are my favorites and I think it’s because their filling is better than any other bakery I’ve been to. They don’t skimp on the filling and the bear claw isn’t mostly dry dough. It’s moist and delicious. I also love their Florentine cookies! It’s a rolled up almond brittle cookie, filled with custard, and dipped in chocolate on both ends. Can we say love? :) I’ve sometimes frozen this cookie and eaten them on hot summer days. It’s like a mini ice cream sandwich. Their baker makes the cutest cupcakes for special occasions. Very individualized and you can give them your specifications. Words of wisdom: I know their staff may not speak fluent English, but they know what they’re doing. Be patient and you’ll get what you want. Their prices may be a little pricier compared to some generic place like Wal Mart, but you pay for the extra quality. Hey, if you want cheap baked goods, then you go to Wal Mart and not a bakery that specializes, right? Just common sense. Final Answer– I’ll be back!

I used to love Simpson’s it was my GOTO bakery for every event! We recently moved back to town and my husband ordered my birthday cake from there. My excitement was dashed by a fairly dry cake, GREASY frosting and the clincher, they spelled my name wrong and it’s only a 3 letters :(I assumed that was the issue is the new owners but who knows. Very disappointed and in search of a better bakery.

Okay I am bummed. They used to be great. They used to have beautiful fun cupcakes at great prices and yummy beehives. We would come here almost every weekend. We have purchased cakes, donuts, berocks, beehives and cookies. But something happened last year. the prices went up, the inventory went down and the quality became below average. The cakes are just way sugary, their cookie selection was a little sad. Compared to what it used to be I was sort of embarassed looking at the cases. The new owners are friendly enough but I have not seen a beehive in their bakery for quite some time now and when I ask about them they always say the same thing’ Oh you just missed the last two! Call in the morning to see if we have any they go fast“ Yeah well before when it was different owner there were ALWAYS beehives there. Can you tell I miss my beehive? So I think they are lying to me. I dont think they have the beehives anymore. If anyone sees a beehive email me let me know they are there. I may go back for nostalgia before I move who knows…

I must totally disagree with Stephine, I have not been in Simpson’s in a couple of years. I guess they are in the process of remodeling and are under new ownership. The help was friendly and the cake we ordered was great. When we were in there we also got some of their pastries, the Bear Claws, oh my they are the best. I know the bakery I will buy from for now on. Look forward to going back.

I have not patronized this bakery for quite some time, so I thought that it was under the same ownership, but as I parked in front of the shop, I realized that something had changed. I went in, thinking that it was due to the economy that the display of baked goods was sparse, but I realized later that ownership changed hands. I promised my nephews that I would get them cookies, so, although, the prices were exorbitant, I did purchase some cookies for me and my nephews and a cream puff for me. The cookies I ate were tasty, as did the cream puff, but I do not believe that the price was worth it. After that experience, I shall be on the search for another bakery to patronize.

This use to be a great bakery, until they changed ownership a few years ago. Ever since then, their pastries have gotten smaller & their prices have climbed. I wish the old owners would come back! We use to frequent this bakery almost every weekend, but can’t anymore due to the lack of value.

I have ordered 1 cake there, bought a slice of cake to sample, and 2 dozen cupcakes. The slice of cake was pretty dry and had a heavy/dense, not super sugarly frosting. The cake was lighter and had a whip frosting, the decorations was great-just what I wanted. The cupcakes were pricey, $ 1.00 a piece, and was a basic mock up of white frosting and sprinkles.
