The Fire Pit

First timer, I ordered for takeout. They answered promptly and politely. I took the recommendation from other reviews and ordered the Barber Shop special with the mild bbq sauce. Good eats!!! Mild bbq has a slight kick, nothing serious, but definitely good flavor. Also ordered a side of chili, nothing special but still a nice addition.

Been going here for years. Through different names, but the one thing that remains the same is Sandra. Sandra has been serving me some of the best BBQ anywhere and doing it with a smile. They have the pits right out front where you can see them, so you know you are getting freshly smoked BBQ. Everything is done slow and low and always tender. I usually go for the Barber Shop Special, but enjoy the chicken as well.
Fun atmosphere with the outdoor setting. I’ve taken many people from work when they come in from the midwest and have not heard a single complaint. Most people compare it to any good BBQ they have in there areas.
If it is available you need to try to the Banana Pudding. Tastes like you remember Banana Pudding tasting like growing up. All around good food at an affordable price plus you support a local business.
I’ve tried BBQ from all over and this is just as good as most any BBQ you are going to find anywhere. The smoke flavor comes through but doesn’t over power and the spicy bbq sauce is spicy but delicious.

Located in a residential area near Chandler Airport in Fresno. Tri-​tip was tasty and cooked right. Had the hot sauce which was very flavorful and spicy. Think next time I will opt for the mild sauce. Potato salad not so good; rather bland and unappealing. Was hoping to get a piece of fresh made cornbread but, was served a stale store bought dinner roll instead. Staff very friendly, fast service, and a nice and clean dining area adjacent to the take-​out window. A limited menu – ribs, chicken, hot links, tri-​tip and basa fish (which I had never heard of before).

Really good food. Really good prices. Sandy the owner is so nice and makes really good food. I love the setting of being in someone’s backyard for a barbecue my son also loves the food. There’s child plates available which is awesome!

Thus place is awesome. Try the barber shop special with the peach cobbler. Make sure you get the hot sauce and your day is made. It is especially great with awesome friends. Also get the 7 up cake.

The Fire Pit is my go to spot in Downtown Fresno for Ribs. The ribs are tender and have a great subtle smoke to them. Sides of potato salad and beans are great.
When I am in a rush, I pick up the rib sandwich on a sub roll. The sandwich comes with pieces of ribs with the bone on, so it is a little difficult to eat. I recommend getting the bbq sauce the side.
Outdoor seating is available. Overall great place to eat.

Boss surprised me with lunch at The Fire Pit today… it was exceptional! I didn’t know this place existed, but I’m going back this week. We each had a Rib Dinner. The barbeque was the best I’ve ever eaten in Fresno. We need to support this place so it can stay open. My next time will be the Barbershop Special. It looks delicious!!!

AMAZING! Simply Amazing!
This is one of Fresno’s hidden gems. Homemade BBQ at it’s best. This knocks Famous Dave’s right out of the park! I change it up every time. One day I may get ribs, the next a hot link or tri-​tip but you can never go wrong with the Barber Shop Special (Tri-​Tip and Hot Link in one sandwich)
The homemade BBQ sauce is ridiculously flavorful! The HOT is HOT but I can handle it. Mild has a lot of rich flavor so no matter which one you pick, you won’t go wrong.

The Fire Pit, run by Sandra Warren and her daughter Sheree, is that kind of quintessential bbq place that most aficionados only dream of. Just off the NE corner of Fresno and Jones sts, in west Fresno, it sits behind a barber shop (almost an addition to it), on a tree lined residential street. Parking is fairly easy (just park on the street, no hassles about parking meters or other downtown nonsense. Walk through an open gate, past the shaded tables and up to the Order window.
The prices are very reasonable and the service was extremely friendly and accommodating. We ordered the Saturday special of fried basa fish and fries, and a second dinner of ribs with hot bbq sauce and beans.
The fish was fried to order but worth the wait, (which we did quite comfortably under spinning outdoor ceiling fans at the covered outdoor table) The fish had a well seasoned crunchy cornmeal crust and a mild, tender fish inside. YUM!
The beans on the rib plate were worth the trip even by themselves. with plenty of meat in them, the flavor was out of this world. slightly sweet and reminiscent of the beans my grandfather used to make. I’d go back just for those… however. then there were the ribs… and that hot sauce… wow. The ribs themselves were fall off the bone tender with a well seasoned bark that seemed that they’d had a good dry rub before being cooked. The sauce itself was a revelation. The kind of heat that creeps up and bathes the inside of your mouth with a tingly glow. The flavors were complex, sweet, vinegary, spicy and left us mopping up every last bit with the bread and fries.
Will we return? you bet we will! Do we recommend you make the trip to west Fresno? You bet we do! Please go, and you will be rewarded with some of the best bbq in Fresno or anywhere!
