My boyfriend and I loved our«Couples Retreat,» which involved a candlelit eucalyptus bath in a large jetted tub for two and massages for both of us. Kurt the massage therapist did a masterful job of dealing with tightness in my neck/scapula area. The woman at the front desk was especially warm and courteous. Loved this place; we will be back!

My husband and I visited on our mini honeymoon and purchased the Couples Retreat package. It includes a 20 minute couples eucalyptus bath followed by a 60 minute massage. The bath was incredibly relaxing. 20 minutes was the perfect amount of time to get me ready for a massage. Dan was my masseuse. Probably one of the best massages I’ve ever had! I’ve had a lot of massages and this was definitely top 5. He used a heated neck wrap during the massage and placed it on different areas of my back and body while he worked on an area. Usually there’s just a heated bed, this was 100 times better. He listened when I asked for more/less pressure. I like a deeper massage and he was able to relax some upper body tension. I was a pile of mush after the massage, so very relaxed and happy. My husband felt the same. When we go back, we will definitely get another massage here.

Superb two treatments, relaxing steam room, friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. I walked in the door and felt like I’d been transplanted away from anything else going on at the resort. The fountain, the smiling staff, the spa music… all set the stage. The steam room and lush likened throughout really made this an immersive experience. I started with a a gentleman’s facial, and Krissy was spot on with the technique and conversation. The products left my skin tight and smooth. Next up, a 90-minute massage, which was just as advertised by the director, Troy: relaxing, stress-relieving, and firm enough to do some actual work on staying that way for a while. Kurt was tremendous, on point in finding specific areas and using varying pressure depending on what needed to be done. Kudos to the staff and resort for making the first day of 2015 a super relaxing one!

My family comes to Roche every year to enjoy the food, boating, activities, and beautiful scenery. This year we brought my grandparents, ages 84 and 82. We brought my Grandma(age 82) to Afterglow for her first ever spa experience. Prior to her appointment she changed her mind several times about the service she wanted and the staff was very gracious and understanding. My grandma is undergoing medical treatment which leaves her skin tender and sensitive. The staff at Afterglow was beyond patient with all her specific needs, listened carefully to her concerns, and made her entire experience enjoyable. My grandma left saying«I felt like a queen!». We are so thankful for the patience and graciousness of the spa staff. And we will definitely we back next year! Thanks!

Not the biggest spa I’ve ever been to but my best spa experience in a few years. I used a voucher tied in to our stay at Roche Harbor Resort. I went for the eucalyptus bath which was decadent and soothing, and a great massage from Celena(Cerena?) who does lomi-lomi style, my favorite. The locker room was much smaller than I expected but I appeared to be the only client on Wednesday at noon so I had the place to myself. In the steam room there’s a bottle of eucalyptus spray for you to spritz during your steam; that was a little odd! I’m used to the eucalyptus being part of the steam already. Other than those quirks, it’s The Little Spa that Can. I’ll be back my next trip to SJI!

Amazing little gem on the northern tip of San Juan Island. Very friendly staff, gorgeous setting in Roche Harbor and exquisite accommodations(including locker rooms with a steam room, waiting area post steam /pre treatment with tea and water and plush robe and sandals). Our massage therapists Mia and Erinn were fantastic. I had Mia, who provided one of the best massages I have ever had(and I have had many) and my wife(8 months pregnant) had Erinn who gave her 90 minutes of feeling halfway normal again with the special pillow they have for such clients. If you are ever remotely close to Roche Harbor, make an appointment, you won’t be disappointed.

I went north to the San Jaun Islands for a long weekend getaway — by myself! It was amazing… I was referred by the host of my bed and breakfast that Roche Harbor Day Spa was a great place for massage… she was right in so many ways!!! I loved this place! I went about 45 minutes early and sat in the steam room… then near the fireplace with some yummy tea. Sydney was the massage therapist who I saw and she was INCREDIBLE! Its a bit pricey, but given the service I received and the looks of the place, I would definitely recommend and return in a heart beat!

Clean, quaint and all smiles. While mooring at Roche Harbor Marina, I took in an afternoon massage. After a quick and easy check in, filling out the standard form, I was toured around the small, but well appointed spa. My locker was open with sandals and robe awaiting. After a quick wash down in the clean, large, tile shower, I managed 12 minutes in the steam room, a great way to relax before my rub down. Another quick wash I retired to the lounge with cucumber water, organic Tazo teas and Pellagreno. The gas log fire was blazing making it very warm but still comfortable as I hydrated over the latest issue of some Mega Yhat magazine. When in Rome. Sydney arrived right on time to lead me down the hall to our room. Dimly lit, smelling fresh and with heated sheets, I relaxed and awaited my 60 minute, deep tissue. Great work! Sydney is fantastic. When she asked if the pressure was ok, I let her know she could go harder. Politely she said that was almost as much as she could go but I could tell she was really trying. Very kind of her. What a great massage. After our well spent hour together, at least for me, more hydration in now a very full lounge until by final scrub down under the rain water bower head. My visits to Roche Harbor will now include a pop in to see Sydney. Thank you.

The best pedicure I have ever had, with lovely smelling lotions and private atmosphere. Amber was superb and so lovely to chat with. Mayra did my makeup for my wedding, and she literally made me and my bridesmaids feel like a million bucks! After forgetting to buy my lipstick, she even sent it over the afternoon of the wedding! I can’t compliment her talent and customer service enough, she was amazing! My husband and I had the couple soaking massages the night after the wedding and we arrived with champagne waiting for us and had THEBEST massages I have ever had. I didn’t get her name, but would recommend any couple, recently married or not, go there and get that massage! We will be back for sure!

I had a massage last weekend with Erinn and can’t say enough great things about the experience. The massage was easily the best I’ve had. She applied the perfect amount of pressure and I enjoyed every minute of it. The locker room, steam room and waiting area were clean and relaxing. Someone came in to check on the locker room and ask if I needed anything multiple times while I was in there steaming/showering. Every staff member was friendly and helpful. It was a dreary, rainy day and the spa was a perfect activity.

I went here for a hot stone massage in early September while we were camping at Lakedale for the weekend. The spa is on the Roche Harbor side of the island, which is not my favorite, but the spa itself was a nice retreat from that area. I’ve had a stone massage before, this was a 90 min one. They immediately show you a locker that allows you enter your own combo to open it, and a robe. The bathroom/dressing area was a little small compared to some spas, but still very nice all the same. There were plenty of amenities on the counter to use and counter space to relax on comfortable chairs and get ready with. There are two showers available, two bathrooms and a steam room. I took advantage of the beautiful showers before my massage and I love the large rainfall style showerhead. The waiting area is quiet, small, has ice water and tea available, curtains over the windows(as they face the front of the spa). Some zen-style music is playing and the lights are lower. My masseuse, Jen(i think that was her name?) came out to greet me and show me to the massage room. It was a smaller room, but very clean and even had a towel warmer to hang your robe on. Before we started she asked me if I had any areas that needed extra work, and I mentioned my upper lats giving me trouble. The stone massage was very relaxing and she did spend some extra time on my lats. She put these wonderful stone toe rings on each of my toes as well, which were really great IMO. Jen was the best masseuse and I would say this is the best stone massage I ever had. I used the steam rooms afterward and had my fill of ice water before I left. I was not pressured to buy anything when i left either, even though they do offer a line of aromatherapy products(candles, etc…) in the front lobby of the spa. If I ever come out this island again, I would definitely visit here. It was pleasant. I thought the prices were average for most spas.

Wow — I’m so glad I didn’t read those other reviews before picking a place to get a massage — I never would have tried Afterglow on the strength of the other reviews and I would have missed out on one of the best spa experiences I’ve ever had! My husband and I booked a couples massage through our hotel. We just asked for a place we could get a massage and ended up here. First of all, it’s in a lovely spot in Roche harbor, which is so pretty it’s almost not quite believable. Secondly, the spa itself is beautiful — there’s a lovely lounge with fireplace where you can read and have tea or water before or after your treatments(the treatments include 40 minute use of the spa facilities). There’s a very nicely appointed locker room, with a steam room as well as showers and many nice touches you’d expect to see in a good spa. We had a wonderful hour long couples massage. My husband said it was literally the best massage he’d ever had! Mine was also very good. The service was good — everyone was friendly and we didn’t have to wait a second. I would go back here in a second — I’d probably book the bath/massage package which includes a long soak in their beautiful bathroom in candlelight. Ignore the other reviews — they must have been under different management or something — the place really was not recognizable from them. I would even question the ‘expensive’ comment — it’s more expensive than an off-island 60 minute, in and out massage, yes, but totally worth it, we thought, for the extra amenities and the chance to relax in that beautiful, calming environment for a time.

Um, wow. Those are some bad other reviews! But they were written in 2008, so maybe Afterglow improved in recent years? We went in June 2010 — for a couples massage, I know, so corny, but we were on our mini-honeymoon so we figured it was okay. Everything was A-OK — the locker room/shower facilities were great, robes were comfortable, massage rooms were nice. Of course it’s expensive, but most massages at nice places are expensive.

If I could give less than one star, I would. It’s not that this place isn’t beautifully done in the new Quarryman Hall building out at Roche Harbor. I even have friends that say that it’s the nicest spa on the island(but I have to say there’s not much to compare it with). I recently got married at Roche Harbor. Unlike most folks who get married here, I did not stay at the resort. I did however contact the spa to have some services done the day of the wedding for my sister and myself. I even spent a weekend on the island a few months before the event to have a «consultation» done — which is apparently included in the service price. I need to preface this review by the fact that I was NO Bridezilla. There were two or three things I had hoped for — none of them turned out how I pictured — but in the end none of it mattered and I had the most amazing day/weekend EVER! Back to the spa review… I booked my appointment for the consultation, showed up at the spa to check in, and they were running around in a panic because they couldn’t find«the Bride». Turns they thought it was my wedding day that day. I clearly booked a consultation. The resort had on file that my wedding day wasn’t for two months. The management here just doesn’t communicate. I get that it’s a resort and all… but it’s not THAT big. Originally, I thought the spa had an actual salon — but they only have one girl, and all she does is «wedding hair».(barf) I called her about 4 times to speak with her about how much I didn’t want«wedding hair» but she never called me back. Day of consultation: I sit down in the lobby(because they have no salon or place to actually sit and do hair — because they come to you on the day of the wedding*) She’s taking notes, then starts spraying my hair with product, and says, «ok. see you in 8 weeks» WHaT??! Thank God my girlfriends were with me — because they promptly said, «Can you finish actually doing her hair so we know what to expect on the wedding day?» So she curled it, pinned it, sprayed it. Not exactly what I wanted… but it was pretty and not poofy blah. 3 Weeks before the wedding: Spa calls to confirm my location the day of the wedding. I tell them I am staying at the Friday Harbor House(in town — about 9 miles from the Resort). The girl says, ok, then hangs up. 5 minutes later someone else from the spa calls and says, we can’t come to Friday Harbor. *They only do hair if you are staying at the resort. At first I think this is a silly error. Of course the girl who does«wedding hair» can get in the car and drive 9 miles to do my hair. We had a consultation. I paid for it. No one said it was a resort only thing. EVER. By the time we’ve gone back and forth on the issue I’m livid. I tell her she needs to find a way to fix this. She says it’s not her problem. So two days before the wedding, the resort calls to confirm my appointment. I cancel. I don’ t even bother asking for a refund. I’m pretty sure I’ll never recommend Afterglow.

I wish I could rate this spa, but after leaving 2 messages with no returned phone calls and calling 5 additional times with no one picking up the phone during business hours during a 2 week period, I stopped trying.
