Went here 14 years ago for the first time. Now? A disaster. Perhaps a different Innkeeper would change things, updating the place and processes. This one is a grumpy and unreasonable person. I suggest to avoid this Inn. There are many other Inn, with better views and rooms.

Stayed here last July — Below is a copied and pasted review I posted on Trip advisor just days after our stay. I rated it 4 out of 5 on Trip Advisor, but after I posted the below review the owner e-mailed me freaking out that people would think her place was falling apart when I said I thought that the bathroom needed updating. So I am downgrading it to 3 out of 5 for a rather weird exchange of post stay e-mails. I also agree with Charles that the ‘common’ areas actually aren’t all that comfortable or inviting. The rooms itself though are amazing and beautifully set up. You can’t really beat the view either. Her cookies are scrumptious as well. (Trip Advisor review) Overall our one night stay at Highland Inn was fantastic. Helen was courteous and welcoming. She brought us some fresh lemonade while taking care of paper work which was delicious. There is tons of info about the island in the large comfy rooms. Breakfast was delicious and there was fruit, gold fish crackers and yummy homemade cookies in your room upon arrival. The reason for the 4 out of 5 is that for the price of the room we thought that the shower and bath fixtures could use some updating. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Breakfasts at this lovely inn are definitely 5 stars! So are the Inn Keeper’s cookies which are served every afternoon. Our only reservation about this place is that it is small, with only 2 rooms and when you walk in, you feel as though you are in someone’s home. A home with too many notes on the walls with do’s and don’ts and too many personal knick knacks. Ostensibly the Highland Inn was build specifically as a bed and breakfast as the owner’s quarters are upstairs. The two guest suites are on the main floor and the dining room and living room with fireplace are presumably for guests’ use. But it’s not a comfortable place to be. You walk in after an afternoon or evening out and find it dark and deathly quiet. So, it’s less of an Inn per se and more like renting an expensive room in someone’s home. The owner/innkeeper is pleasant enough when you engage her in conversation. It seems as though she’s tired and perhaps wanting to get out of the business. The joy and zest you would expect from someone in this business is lacking.
