Would I Rent Again?
I would recommend Island Bicycles to anyone who wanted to explore San Juan Island on a rode bike. The price for renting for four hours and 24 hours is the same, so I rented a road bike for 24 hours. I circled the island twice in the next 24 hours, a 46-​mile loop and a 32-​mile loop. The bike was certainly not the newest bike on the road, but it was kept in great condition and it worked great.
With that said, my in-​laws rented hybrid bikes, and they were heavy and slow. If you are renting a hybrid, I would suggest looking for another shop; however, if you are looking for a quality road ride, I would highly recommend Island Bicycles.
TIP: Check out the $ 20 MAXX sunglasses. They are light, don’t move on your face, and fit great with your helmet. I love my pair.

Paul and his staff are terrific, and their smooth handling of our rental bikes helped us to have a great July 4^th weekend on San Juan Island. Paul took the time to make sure our gear was fitted properly and in good shape, was flexible with scheduling, and gave us thorough directions. I’d definitely recommend him to friends.

Rented bikes here on our girls weekend at the harbor. The owner was supper nice and took his time fitting us for the right bikes, explaining how they work and giving us tips on the local routes.
This was probably the funnest part of our trip. Granted, lots of laughs were made at my expense since I had no idea how to use the gear shifters at first and was pretty much pedaling air like a gerbil. However, after a few lessons from the girls I felt like a biking professional :-)
We rode 12 miles and had an absolute blast, service was great and the rentals were very inexpensive.

You should rent a bike here and tour the island. It’s great exersize and an amazing experience.

I have not rode a bike in probably 10 years, but we decided this would be a good way to see the island. The people at island bicycles were extremely helpful and friendly. They spent a long time making sure the bike had the right fit and had us do a mini test. They also provided us with cold water bottles, bike locks, a little repair kit, and a helmet. They gave us a nice map to help find the roche harbor bay and it was really helpful. We ended up finishing our ride after the store closed and they were very accomodating with our return of the bike. All in all a good experience.
