Stopped in to pick up some post card stamps(the post office was closed), and the guy at the counter was so friendly and funny. He joked and chatted with me, let me work on my post cards at the counter(«take your time — you are a customer…») and directed me to the nearest mailbox. Now, THIS is the way service at general store should be run — the guy was a beacon for the community. While I did not buy anything besides stamps, the little shop on Spring Street seems to have all kinds of items you would expect — plus and extensive wine selection. Stop by — I know I will again!

General Store Friday Harbor, Washington (On the San Juan Islands) This small shop has some basic item and snacks should you need at the last minute. It’s located just a couple blocks from the ferry dock. Friday Harbor is a very small town and this store is very convenient. I’ll remember this shops here and I’d stop in it again if I returned.

The general store has more in stock than their small size would lead you to think! When they came to the island a couple of years ago, they decided to bring along a huge variety of things people might need. Don’t be afraid to ask for anything you don’t see on the shelves. Thanks for the pillow general store!

This store has decent prices, and a pretty good selection of pretty much everything.

I apologize up front if I’m reviewing the wrong place. I know it’s all part of the same complex, but I’m reviewing the deli. I can’t seem to find anything else about the deli. So, here goes. .. the food was great. The first woman that helped us was great. Everything was great until we got to actually having sandwiches made for us. I don’t know who is was that was actually making the sandwich, but she seemed to be at least in charge, if not some kind of owner. I got the impression that she didn’t want to let go of control, because there were three others walking around that didn’t seem to be allowed to actually make sandwiches. This is where the two stars were lost. There were four of us ordering. Yes, we were in a hurry, but we were on the island and I am very happy adjusting to «island time»(sure that’s a term for Hawaii, I think, but it definitely applies here — nothing wrong with that). What I didn’t appreciate was being told to line up in order of how she put out the bread in front of her. What made it even worse was that even that didn’t help her. She seemed unable to listen to what we asked for and it made the whole process unbearable. When we finished up our order, I moved to the register and it just got worse. That seemed to send her into a frenzy. Again, the sandwiches were actually really good, but why not let those other nice, seemingly perfectly capable women behind the counter lend you a hand? You’d have a pretty good business going for you. UPDATE: I received a note from the owner. Apparently the deli was pretty new when we were there and they were/are working out the kinks. That’s perfectly understandable. I’d definitely give them another shot. As I said, the sandwiches were really good. I’ll even bump them up a star, knowing this.

Owner is super fun and nice! He also owns the deli directly next door to his store. We had 2 different pints poured from the tap. Awesome beer and you get a souvenir to go home with. The pints and growlers can be filled anywhere there is a local brewery which is nice and we plan on trying to do so back here at home.

Best general store ever!!! Flew to the island to go on a kayaking tour, & this place was stocked with good people and necessities! Waterproof cameras, growler station & slushies! Seriously-the growler station is the place to hit up. Get a polish dog to go with it, too.

Killer selection of foodstuffs, merchandise and to top it off, fantastic wines and beers. Bought a case of wine and so should you.

Love this little store!!! We were in Friday Harbor for the weekend and were lured in by the wine selection in the window. We thought we’d buy a bottle of wine. However 40 minutes later we left with a case of wine after David, the owner, gave us our own private tasting session! He was very knowledgeable about wine, and helped guide us to some great wines at very, very reasonable prices(and what an unexpected bonus to get to taste the wine before we purchased). My husband was disappointed we had walked onto the ferry instead of drove, otherwise we would’ve gone home with a growler or two from the impressive beer cave as well!

Island towns always struggle with delivering a good selection at a reasonable price. This store significantly improved on both of these. They carry a solid selection of wine but I was most impressed with the beer cooler which would rival even some small grocery stores on the mainland. Best of all though is a selection of beers on tap for filling growlers. Other than that, it’s a fairly standard convenience store. I would have given a fifth star for some fresh fruit or locally baked breads.
