The bourbon chicken is delicious, but this is not Cajun food by any means. This is simply a Chinese mall fast food place with egg rolls and sweet and sour chicken that decided to throw in bourbon chicken and cabbage and call it Cajun. The jambalaya isn’t anything remotely close to it; it’s merely fried rice with sausage thrown in. That being said, it still tastes good. For the price I feel you get a decent meal, but the name is simply deceiving.

Big Easy is in the food court of a shopping mall, so its fast food that is pretty good. Had bourbon chicken with white rice, the lunch special. The cabbage was very good. As a fast food option, I would go back.

Big Easy used to have a location in the now-Zombie Apocalypse location of Valley View Mall. It was the #1 place my best friend, M, and I would eat as teenagers, roaming the mall as teenaged mall-rats do. Imagine my joy, my surprise, my glee! I was walking around Stonebriar for something or another and I saw the big neon sign that drew me in like a moth. BIGEASY. Surely it can’t be the same. Surely. Samples of bourbon chicken? It’s the same. And damn is it good. The Bourbon chicken is the only thing worth mentioning. I’ve heard that they have other dishes, but I can’t vouch for that personally as I’ve only ever had the bourbon chicken(and in mass quantities). They have various sized entrees. Your best bet is just to get the rice box. Rice(go with steamed, not fried) and bourbon chicken. Their sides are so-so, but the cabbage is actually pretty good(I know, I love cabbage and I’m not actually 85) — still a little crisp, good flavor. When you get the bourbon chicken(notice the subtle direction there), they’ll ask you if you want extra bourbon sauce. The answer is yes. I always say«yes, a little» or else it’s doused and I’ve never been a big sauce person. But the extra sauce gets the rice all bourbony. Do it. You’re welcome.

This is my favorite place in Stonebriar’s food court. I consistently choose to eat at Big Easy Cajun whenever I’m at Stonebriar. The bourbon chicken is fantastic, hence why they are always giving out free samples of it. Once you try it, you just know that you need to have more. Nothing else really stands out to me. The sides aren’t the best. But that bourbon chicken is just addicting, and with a variety of other places in the food court, it’s easy enough to just get your sides a few steps away.

This place is… bizarre. At first glance, it looks like the serving line of nearby Panda Express. Heck, at SECOND glance, it looks like that. There are two different rice options(appearing as steamed and fried, regardless of what they’re called), a noodle dish that sure looks like lo mein, and a number of chicken dishes that sure look like sweet and sour, General Tsao’s etc. There’s also that great Cajun favorite, curry chicken. After giving the selections a once over, really, the only things that said«Cajun» to me were some beans and a dish called«Blackened Fish», which, still, appeared more as an Asian dish. Rounding out the vegetable choices were steamed cabbage(!), mac and cheese, new potatoes, carrots and sweet corn. And the coup de grace: Egg rolls! Signage nearby spoke of etouffe and jambalaya, but there wasn’t any on display. I didn’t ask further. So, after hearing this, you’re thinking«walk away», right? Well, no. The stuff actually looked decently tasty, I was hungry, the line was short and we only had about 45 minutes to eat. Into a styrofoam clamshell went a series of downhome Cajun fare, including those lo mein noodles, jalapeño chicken, steamed cabbage and red beans. Oh, and an eggroll, and to give it the real bayou feel, a cup of Louisiana Hot Sauce. How was it, you ask? Had it not been good, this would have been a one or two star review, based on(nearly) complete lack of actual Cajun food. But, the lo mein was good, the chicken had a flavorful sauce with some spice, but not overly hot, the beans actually DID taste kind of Cajun-esque, and the steamed cabbage still had some«tooth» and hadn’t been adulterated with any fattening add-ons. For a mall food court, it was decently edible. Would I go back? Well, only if I can see them produce some of that etouffe or jambalaya.
