Next Step Dance

This dance studio, while a very nice location and with really great, friendly teachers, is just not for us. The classes went very well for the first few times and my daughter loved her weekly «ballet day». The problem occurred when it came to recital time. This dance studio takes their recitals wayyyy more seriously. Starting with their youngest class (2 – 3 year olds) you are expected to buy a costume (inexplicably skimpy at times for such young kids) and for both the recitals and the professional pictures (they set up a studio in the dance class) you are expected to put them in FULL MAKEUP. They call it «show makeup» and it includes mascara, pencilled in eyebrows, looooots of blush and bright lipstick. We’re talking full on Toddlers in Tiaras. I was shocked.
I can’t condone that type of backwards behavior. We should know better than to subject our daughters to that nonsense. My daughter is beautiful, inside and out, she doesn’t need makeup. Especially not at 3.
We’re sticking with gymnastics.
