I’ve been going to the West End for over 30 years, and I’ve never had a bad experience. Although the West End has seen changes in its owners, management, lay-out, and menu, it consistently serves great food at low prices. The ambiance is fair with casual tables and a sticky bar. In true German fashion, there’s a Christmas tree hanging upside down from the ceiling year-round. You can get breakfast, lunch, and dinner here and all are excellent. In the morning, coffee is just 75 cents — for a large or a small, with unlimited refills! Excellent! The breakfasts are huge and you can get all the usual favorites — eggs, pancakes, potatoes, etc. From about 6−8am, you’ll be sure to see a lot of the«local men» gathering for their usual exchange of small town gossip. Lunch and dinner are essentially the same menu — sandwiches and burgers ala carte and every possible fried side dish you can imagine. My favorite is Friday night when EVERYTHING is fried — you have a choice of fried shrimp, fried catfish, or fried frog legs with 2 sides(choice of french fries, fried hush puppies, fried onions, or fried okra). If you’re in the mood for fried food, you really can’t beat the West End on a Friday night. Also, they have a pretty good selection of pizza. And it doesn’t matter whether you get one topping or ten toppings — it’s still the same price! They also have a great selection of beers on tap and beer bottles as well as wines from some of the local wineries(e.g. Hemmen’s winery). A little known secret to the locals is that there’s a full basement where you can coordinate and host small parties, although I haven’t been to one down there in some years. The«Grocery» part of the West End has really dwindled over the years, but you can still pick up your staples — milk, bread, lemonade, candy, flour, etc. All in all, I probably wouldn’t go out of the way to come to the West End, but every time I’m in Frohna, I will definitely try to stop by for a few meals. You can’t beat the low prices, huge servings, and friendly service.

Tucked away In the quaint little town of Frohna, Missouri, this is a fun place to eat with an atmosphere that’s relaxed and local. If you are hungry for a real handmade hamburger/cheeseburger and a cold beer they have it. If your feeling adventurous I recommend the West End Special, a favorite of my son-in-law. They also have great sides like fried mushrooms, fried cheese, onion rings, french fries and many others. And everything is reasonably priced. I have not tried the plate lunches/specials but am sure they are tasty. They also have Braunschweiger if you ask and they might even have some Beer Cheese to awaken your sense of smell. My family never misses a chance to stop at the West End Tavern when we visity Missouri.

For the only place to dine in Frohna, MO, West End has relatively good food. They have specials on different days, such as serving boneless jack salmon and catfish with potato salad on Fridays and kettle beef with corn and mashed potatoes on Sundays. The food is extremely cheap and I don’t know how they do it. This place is a diner in every sense of the word, from the prices to the food and the ugly yardsale and pub décor(I will admit the taxidermy’s nice). They have a small market but compared to normal markets their three aisles may seem pathetic. but they have the basics, plus random things like laminated id covers and dry-erase markers.
