Put simply: the ratio of difficulty to awesome views is really good on this hike.

Wow what a great trail! We had a few 5 year old kids with us that couldn’t quite make it to the second overlook but easily made it to the first one. It was a spectacular view! It’s about 2 hours up and a little over an hour back. The last 20 minutes is all rock and Amazingness. I definitely recommend this for anyone that wants a small challenge but not to difficult.

If you’re looking for a short and sweet hike with beautiful views, you just found it. This hike is a mere 4 miles out and back, very easy, and less than 2 hours away from DC. The cherry on top — 2 excellent overlooks! The first provides a view of a picturesque little valley with farms and some ponds. The second is a long rocky ledge that looks out over the forest. This weekend, the leaves were just starting to change, but in a couple of weeks — it’s going to be spectacular. This is a nice trail for wildlife as well, with skinks running around all over the rocks at the summit and falcons circling the valley. With the short distance and all the highlights, this would be a great hike for kids or for introducing a newbie to hiking.
