Food and service are pretty good. Not 5 sushi but not bad for the area. The sushi chef got caught up making rolls for the buffet. It took a while for my food to arrive. My wife’s food arrived about 10 minutes before mine. The chef made up for it by sending a free roll to our table. It’s worth a try when you are in Front Royal, VA.

What an excellent Japanese restaurant! We went for dinner in a group of 14(fairly picky diners) and everyone was amazed at the high quality food, diverse menu, and generous portions. Check out the box combinations: they were super and cost only $ 13 or so. This restaurant’s meals could hold their own in the DC metro area, at less than ½ the cost. Save room for green tea ice cream or mochi ball(ice cream).

We have been Yamafuji fans for years — thanks to . We are SO disappointed that they no longer participate. Hoping that they will rejoin or do a Groupon?

Yummy sushi! A little pricey, but worth it since the quality is on point. Friendly accommodating staff. Have been here 3 times, and will continue to return!

Front Royal, rejoice! As a frequent visitor who grew up here, my expectations for decent(vegetarian) food after 8pm are shall we say«tempered». Enter Yama Fuji. I can only speak to the meal I’m eating presently, but for under $ 10(special) I got a dinner«veggie box» with teriyaki tofu, rice, veggie tempura, sushi, salad and some really good miso soup! On top of that, you can order online and they’re open until 10pm. Color me happily fed. Conclusion: Please in the name of All That’s Holy let this business survive.

After seeing several positive reviews about this place, SO and I decided to check this place out. We came at about 8:45 P.M. on a Sunday night and they had just closed down/cleaned up the all-you-can-eat sushi buffet, which was extremely disappointing since that is the reason we came(though it seemed small from the remnants we saw). We were the only ones in the restaurant and it was nice and quiet. We ordered the sashimi platter as well as a tempura salmon roll on the side with green tea mochi ice cream for dessert. The platter came with a standard salad and miso soup, which was nice. The fish was fresh and nicely plated, but was not the best quality I have ever had and nothing to write home about. Similarly, the tempura salmon roll, while interesting, was standard. The mochi ice cream was delicious, but probably packaged(not that I am complaining). Overall, decent place, but nothing amazingly special or unique.

The food here was just okay. The salmon didn’t have any flavor but the tuna was good. Mochi ice cream was good but it was nothing special.

I came here with my family and had probably the best sushi! It was fresh and savory! We ordered a roll boat that came with the chef’s special rolls and a sashimi boat. Not only did I get to taste the sushi but also had their Udon noodles, which is also a popular item on their menu. This is probably the only sushi resturant in the area so if you’re in that neck of the woods and craving fresh hand made sushi Yama Fuji is the top place to go!

Really no idea on how can you bad review this place! You are in the middle of virginia mountains and you can get sushi! Thats great enough, and its damn good. Came here sunday night, sushi buffet its awesome, big variety of rolls and other jap sushi food, you can get a little, or alot, of everything and try a bunch of different tastes without ordering an entire roll of any kind. All tasted great to me and the sushi chef even offered to add any roll i wanted to the buffet, if i wished so. Waitresses are super nice and almost overserving you! All great to me, its definitely a go, go!

While this wasn’t the best sushi I’ve ever had, the service was excellent and the owner made the sushi in front of our eyes himself, even though we had ordered by phone 30 minutes before we drove through town en route to Connecticut from Charlottesville. We were skeptical about a sushi place in Front Royal but plan on stopping here again the next time we make the same trip. The sweet potato roll was excellent!

We have been here 3 times now and have been pretty impressed with every visit. The maki rolls are a little smaller than we’re used to at sushi restaurants in Fairfax, but the prices are representative of what you are getting and the quality is great. They also have a lot of unique rolls that I haven’t seen before. I’m still trying them all, but the fried California roll one is really good and I think my favorite so far! I need to try their bento boxes. I will review those once I do. Thanks for good sushi. I wish you would offer hibachi sometimes. That would be awesome to try!

We are new to town, straight from Hawaii where we are spoiled by fresh fish EVERYWHERE, ALLTHETIME! We were a little homesick for comfort food and rice, so we were elated when we found Yamafuji. We walked in and and it was just like we were back home. Sushi is delicious! The fish is fresh and the staff are so friendly and accommodating. Alexis has been our waitress every single time – Aloha at its finest! We have been in Front Royal for 3 weeks now, and within the last week, we have done 2 dine-ins and a take-out. Easily, our favorite place to dine so far. We haven’t been to their Sushi Festival on Sunday nights where it’s all you can eat for $ 18.95, but guess where you can find our family this coming Sunday? I can’t wait! Spicy Ahi Hand Rolls are awesome! The lunch boxes for $ 7.95 on weekdays are PERFECT! Tempura is always crispy, not soggy. We love raw fish and everything we’ve tasted so far is fresh, delicious, and right up our alley. We will be returning for many more visits in the future!

Tried YamaFuji yesterday for the first time and was seriously disappointed. I should have heeded the warnings from other Unilocalers. Apparently the best thing the restaurant has to offer is the sushi buffet. We ordered to go and by the time we got home realized we were missing several items. There was an orange roll on special that sounded amazing, after being charged for it, I was ticked that it wasn’t in my bag. I also didn’t receive the Cali roll or gyoza that were supposed to be part of my Yama box. I realize these infractions may not seem enough for one star but this wasn’t the extent of the issues. After waiting more than 30 minutes for my order in a dining area that was mostly people getting the sushi bar, the kitchen should have been able to get out teriyaki chicken and a Yama box sooner. Speaking of chicken, my husband noticed that the chicken, while tasty was definitely processed. And the miso soup was very bland. Back to the missing items. I called to discuss the issue, basically expecting an offer to make it right next time. Instead what I got waa an argument that there weren’t Cali rolls in the Yama box. The man conceded after I pointed out the entry on the menu. He continued to argue that it wasn’t his fault that the items were missing. In the end, my family who generally eats sushi and/or Japanese once a week won’t be back.

The décor is nice, but the entire dining experience was rather mixed. We went on a Sunday night, when they serve a salad /appetizer /sushi buffet in addition to the regular menu. Service was extremely slow. There was only one waitress for this fairly full restaurant. After I served myself at the buffet, the sushi chef came and took the order for the rest of our table. The buffet had a lot of food, but many items were variations on a California Roll, and many others were fried. The sushi chef did make unagi upon request, and the food was quite tasty. My husband had shrimp teriyaki, which had a lot of shrimp but few vegetables. The salad dressing was only decent, and the waitress asked for his choice of dressing when she brought his main course. When we were waiting for our bill, the waitress was helping to bus tables, and then the bus boy brought drinks to another table. The multiple hats was confusing, and I hope they washed hands often. While it was nice to get decent Japanese food in Shenandoah Valley, it didn’t wow us.

What a great restaurant, it was choice for my birthday dinner and I was extremely happy! For the amount of food we ordered(three rounds of sushi) the bill was very reasonable. We have been back many times and love to go to the Sunday afternoon sushi buffet as often as we can. Highly recommended!!!

Went a week ago around 5:30pm. There wasn’t a sole inside beside myself and the sushi guy. I got crunchy California rolls and spicy tuna rolls. Both were excellent and reasonably priced from what I am used to paying at other places. However, I did see a cockroach crawling on the floor underneath the table I was at. This was the only one I saw. This does make me question the cleanliness of the restaurant. Based on this alone I probably wouldn’t go back. The food was good though but it’s tough to look past cockroaches.

Yummy! Sushi after a long hard hiking from Old rag mountains, life is good! Sushi is good, service is good, but kinda creepy that I was the only one who was there at the time… Lol oh well I guess the lesser ppl there the better service I get then.

First time here and wow! Not what we were expecting when we first walked in. This place needs a SERIOUS remodel. Please do not judge it by its looks! The food and service here are excellent. 5 of 5 stars. Sushi was fresh and vibrant. You could taste every component and it was SOGOOD. My boyfriend and I are new to the area and we’ll definitely be making this a regular go to spot. Also, the waitress was super nice and took very good care of us. Love!

As someone who has lived in Japan, my expectations for good Japanese food weren’t particularly high when I moved to small town Virginia. Thankfully, despite my low expectations I have been impressed time after time with my visits to Yamafuji. I’ve had udon noodles, their Salmon box, tempura, and many different kinds of Sushi. All of it tasted great and was presented authentically. They do tend to be out of things sometimes, but I’m ok with that seeing as it probably means the ingredients are fresh and not sitting in the freezer for months. Priced are great too. Get a lunch box or a couple rolls of sushi and before the tip, you can have lunch for two for under $ 20.
