PenFed Credit Union

Amazing service! I applied for a used car loan at my FCU I normally bank at, but was given a really high APR. When I called Pentagon FCU, Geri was very helpful and was able to get my loan approved within one day… at HALF the APR as my FCU I’ve been banking with for over 15 years! I will definitely do my banking here from now on. I highly recommend this institution to all of my friends and family!

PFCU — Ft Shafter, Hawaii is the BEST place to bank! Our gratitude to Jason Leavitt, Branch Manager. He is an excellent communicator and manager. He was willing to go over and above to assist us in accomplishing all that we wanted to do. He always did what he said he would do and followed up to completion. I would highly recommend banking at PenFed. Easy online access. Interest rates competitive with other banks. We have recommended several clients and friends.

Absolutely one of the worst places to have a bank. Extremely slow service. I’ve seen more people walk out of here than a donkey show in Mexico. Don’t ask me about Mexico…

I had a Tripler FCU account for years and was happy with the service. A few years ago it was taken over by PenFed and this is by far the worst bank account that I’ve ever had in 40 years of having bank accounts. If it weren’t for my car loan I would close the account (opened in 1989). Although this entry is for the Fort Shafter branch they are the same organization. I generally expect credit unions to offer better services and fees that big banks but that isn’t always so with PenFed. Below is a list of reasons why I dislike this credit union.
1. they do not take the deposit slips from your checkbook — you have to fill out their deposit slip which requires entering a lot of information by hand, including your member number AND your account number. So I now have to keep these numbers written down where I can access them.
2. They do not do automatic transfers from savings AND they charge you if your checking drops below a certain amount so you really have to watch your balances.
3. Although the Tripler branch isn’t generally busy they now force you to take a number, even if no one is in line. I asked why & was told that they use the numbers to track transactions (since transactions are done on a computer this should not be necessary)
4. The clerks in the front often yell to the staff in the back offices while customers are trying to conduct transactions.
5. I deposited a check for my daughter and they deposited the money into someone else’s account!!! Totally unacceptable. The only reason we noticed is that the balance displayed on the receipt was higher than it should have been. And then it took days to resolve the problem and get the money back.
6. When my ATM card didn’t work they said I would have to go to Fort Shafter to get it fixed. I don’t go to fort shafter and I don’t want to take off work and make a special trip just for that.
I’m not even done with problems — these are just the worst of many. Their website is also riddled with problems
