Allen’s Tuxedos

Went on a cruise and needed a few tuxs for the formal nights. Was nervous about all the these reviews but went to the Fullerton store and had great service from two guys and the manager. Very helpful since I was not sure what I wanted and they walked me through the process. Tried them on one day before our 3 week cruise and was afraid I woulds need changes but everything fit perfectly. I highly recommend the Fullerton location.

Having been asked to walk one of my past employees (whose almost a daughter to me) «down the aisle» to her new hubby, and with work that hasn’t required a suit in 15+ years, my closet was bare of any form of attire suitable for such an advent. My wife said forget renting anything and just go buy a new suit. In true procrastinator form, I put it off until 4 days before the event, then went shopping and found that no one had anything I liked that well, and even if they had something, they sound shaky about getting alterations done in time.
I’d rented from Allen previously in my other life, and it always worked out well, so I gave them a call. It sounded like they had something, so I drove over and noticed a sign out front advertising Tux rentals for $ 69.00. Going in planning on just a dark suit, I was lucky enough to meet T-​Ann, who showed me exactly how to «dress down» one of the advertised tuxs so it’d look better than a suit, but not as formal as the full deal. I ending up spending 2/​3s what I planned, looked great (according to my wife) and felt totally comfortable. T-​Ann was dynamite and had my clothes fitted and ready to go the next day. Lets see? Ready a day early and for less money than I expected… I’m please to say that both the wedding and Allen’s Tuxedos were 5-​STAR performances!

Summary: after an extremely-​negative customer service experience here I was determined to take time out to write a Unilocal article telling others not to bring their business here. After looking at the other Unilocal-reviews…I don’t know what else I could add to the discussion that hasn’t already been said. Take your business elsewhere until they improve their business-​practices to become worth your money.
–Was forced to come here to rent a tux as this was the location my buddy’s fiancé chose.
–waited an 1+ hour while they serviced 2x groups ahead of us (not the issue: if you show up at the same time as other groups you deal with it)
–lady (seemed to be in charge) kept complaining to group after group that everyone was coming in to pick up tuxedos on Saturday instead of coming in on Friday. I felt that was extremely unprofessional as we (paying customers) weren’t interested in hearing why WE were wrong for not picking up our orders the day before (one coming from Northern-​LA; one coming from Santa Barbara; one coming from Colorado) instead of them hustling to quickly service all of us in order to mitigate the issue.
–once we were actually served our tuxes, etc. everything was brought to us ass-​backwards. They apparently did not use all of the free-​time from the day before (since they weren’t serving us since we didn’t pick our stuff up the previous day) to actually organize our orders. Items came out piecemeal: pants/shoes/shirt…then later a vest… then later a jacket. Nothing seemed organized; everything seemed haphazard.
–lady seemed to have no idea how many dressing rooms her store actually had. Three sets of clothes were brought out when there were four or us and four dressing rooms. She delayed giving out the fourth suit when we were in a rush and commented that she was waiting for a dressing room to become free.
–the sole of my buddy’s shoe was falling off, indicating shoddy maintenance. Unacceptable (though he’s a cool guy and says he’ll just fix it with duct tape and/​or superglue)
For what it’s worth the assistant (big dude) was conciliatory, apologizing to us that it took so long and thanking us for waiting numerous times. He brought stuff out quickly, did lots to smooth over the supervisor’s errors, etc.
Advice to the company:
–Organize and streamline your systems. Make use of your down-​time (ie all of the time when customers aren’t around) to organize things so that incoming-​customers don’t have to wait around 1.5 hours (like we did) as you scramble around to find stuff.
–Either re-​train this poor supervisor or fire her. She has terrible people skills, complained rather than seeking after solutions, actively-​argued with customers, and didn’t seem to realize that she was pissing off everybody in the room. One of the groups in front of us pointed out that she didn’t seem to listen to what anyone was saying and, instead, only wanted to make sure that she got to speak her mind.
–Promote the assistant. He got work done; he was a calming influence; he mitigated a lot of the supervisor’s faults and flaws.

DO NOT GO HERE! If I could give this place zero stars I would!!! Horrible customer service & over priced!!! My son will be a ring bear on Saturday, I asked if we could pick up the suit Thursday at 4pm since the rehearsal dinner is on that day at 6pm and we live an hour away (without traffic). Was told NO I have to pick it up on friday afternoon, if I want it on Thursday at 4pm I have to pay an extra $ 25 dollars !!!

The quality of product provided by this business is complete crap. I wish I was exaggerating this fact, but it was experienced first hand. Right after my ceremony half of my groomsmen pointed out that their shoes were falling apart so badly that the sole flopped around and exposed the whole front half of their socked foot. We eventually resorted to using –what else, but-​duct tape to tape up their shoes for the remainder of the evening. On top of that we also had buttons falling off of the grooms vest. And all this happened after only wearing the suits for no more than a half hour!!! I wouldn’t categorize myself as being anywhere near Bride-​zilla status, however when it comes to paying $ 160 for some crappy excuses for suits I believe I am completely within my own right to be livid. Especially, when you throw in how unresponsive Joe, the shop’s owner, is in recognizing or resolving the issue. My husband has made numerous attempts to contact Joe by leaving voicemails and emails (we attached pictures of the shoes). After 2 weeks — still no response — W… T…F. I find this truly frustrating, does this guy have no pride in his business or respect for his customers?! I highly HIGHLY recommend going to another rental shop. At $ 160 per suit, this was a terribly expensive mistake.

I got married a few weeks ago and used Allen Tuxedo Rentals to supply tuxedos for me, my two groomsmen, and both dads. They have a relatively large selection of styles and sizes for everyone, both the jacket and the vest/​tie/​bowtie/​cummerbund. I chose Allen Tuxedo Rentals despite the horrible reviews simply because I found a tuxedo style here that I couldn’t find elsewhere.
The employees here aren’t necessarily rude. The manager/​owner has a New England vibe who is straight to business with no non-​sense attitude. It didn’t bother me. We came to the store on multiple visits to select style, get measurements for everyone, etc. What bothered me was that on the day of pickup (day before the wedding), a lot of the issues that are pointed out do NOT get fixed or resolved. It’s a matter of ‘take it or leave it’ approach by the business. Obviously with only one day from my big day, I don’t have any other option.
One of the most glaring issues was the asymmetry on my tuxedo coat/​jacket. The shoulders were VISIBLY messed up. The right shoulder sticks out parallel to the floor, but the left shoulder slopes downward. We pointed this out to the manager/​owner but she ignored it and we didn’t have any other option. She refused to fix the problem.
The problem is now completely visible in all of my wedding photos, both done by family members and the professional photographer. Each tuxedo costs between $ 130-​$ 150 to rent, so I found this to be completely unacceptable for the groom to wear an obvious defect on my own big day.
Be forewarned.

Joe was not present when we picked up the tuxedos before my big day, so he has no clue what happened. Someone else was present (remain unnamed for now). We were not satisfied on the day we picked up the tuxedo. We were not happy with what we received. Somewhere in Joe’s reply was an apology, but that doesn’t change the tuxedo nor my wedding. And following that apology is a fabrication that I was «very happy with the tuxedo» before I left. Look at the other reviews and decide for yourself.

Was pigeonholed here for a friends wedding and due to location I went to the La Habra store while the others in the party went to Fullerton. Apparently they were very happy with the staff and received their suits in great condition, well fitted and generally had a good experience.
My visit was not so satisfying. The gentleman was not very helpful and a bit confused as to what he needed to do to get my order right. I knew this was a mistake, I should have just drove to Fullerton. He measured me and fitted the jacket and shirt to my liking and I hoped all was good. Upon picking up my suit the shirt was fitted in the neck and arm length but was about 5 sizes too big everywhere else, it looked like a kite. So much material to tuck in it was ridiculous. The slimmer jacket I had picked was apparently out the window also as I got a huge jacket with the correct length. Thankfully the pants were ok and I was on my way.
Upon dressing for the event when I put the shoes on the sole of one completely came off. They were old and looked to be glued a few times so this wasn’t the first. When I returned the get-​up I was directed to a sign that says absolutely no refunds and the guy added that the owners will not do anything. Awesome.
All in all, my buddies suits were just fine and I got the stepchild attire. Avoid the La Habra store and in my opinion just go someplace else altogether.
Sidenote: I’ve written the BBB and have sent the owners a note as well.

Talked to the lady from the Fullerton on the phone. She gave me a completely different idea of their selection than what they really had. She had talked to me about how they can do custom. Went in to an appointment at their Anaheim location. Their selction was pittiful! What a joke. And their employee knew it, he couldn’t even sell the crappy products he had! Don’t waste your time here.

Rented a tux for my son at the La Habra store and the order was completely wrong: wrong vest, bow tie and the pants were too short. When we complained upon return we just received weak explanations (i.e. weddings are priorities?)
