Dear J. Gumbo’s I would like to order food for delivery because I’m hungry. However, I also REALLY like asian girls. That probably sounds funny but here’s why I say this: I took these steps to order delivery: 1. Go to 2. Select ‘Gahanna’ under the locations tab 3. Select ‘Order Online’ So I’m just wondering, do you deliver these girls too? Cause I’d also like two of them with my food please… Thanks!

Been gone from Columbus for a while but this J. Gumbo’s is still great! Had the Bumble Bee Stew with Bourbon Chicken & brown rice. Great. Clean, nice atmosphere, customer service very good. Tasty. I would recommend you eat here.

Just called to confirm they deliver as their Unilocal profile states. They do not deliver but he had to think about it for a while? Update: 25 minutes later received a call from the restaurant stating they do deliver. So I am changing from one star to 3 without having had their food tonight. Upgrading to 3 stars for good customer service and follow through. Will have to try the food next time I need to order delivery. J Gumbo, I will be calling soon and thank you!

Tried J gumbo for lunch today and I wasn’t impressed, having a mom from new orleans and growing up with authentic Creole cuisine I felt it lacked flavor and was very commercial. dishes in Nola are not served with shredded chicken. i had the drunken chicken and the spices were ok, it just tasted as if it came from a bottled sauce. the bread needs to go, its just a plain white sandwhich slice.

Voodoo chicken is still tasty. They now have brown rice. Nice addition! I wish they’d get better bread. I know the white bread roll is new Orleans style but its still boring. Atmosphere is nice. I recommend!

Surprisingly, this was my first time trying J. Gumbo’s, and the food was pretty good. It’s definitely not as tasty as some of the other Cajun places in town, especially with Da Levee right up the street. If I was craving some Cajun, and I didn’t have that option a few blocks away, then I could see myself coming here. I think what surprised me the most was that they had a full service bar. I had no idea. What’s not good is the pricing structure, which doesn’t make much sense to me. The«appetizers» are the same price as the main dishes. Actually, everything is $ 7.75, or is it? All of the dishes are around $ 7.75, unless of course you want anything added to it, like a sprinkling of jalapenos, green onions, and sour cream, which are all 50 cents EACH. Seriously? 50 cents for like 5 jalapenos and another for a dollop of sour cream. And then for some shredded cheddar cheese on top, it’s 75 cents. What’s going on here? For some pretty cheap toppings, a lunch plate of voodoo chicken went from $ 7.95 to $ 10+. I could get an entrée with the same amount of food at Da Levee for $ 7. It makes no sense. The service was just okay, but I wasn’t really expecting anything great. Maybe I’d come back again? I’m still up in the air about this. Probably not to this location since there’s better Cajun in the area, but who knows? UPDATE: Green onions are actually free.

Super yummy vegetarian options! The cornbread is that fabulously sweet. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.

Great bang for buck. Good flavors, great service. Décor still reminiscent of panera, which would be nice w change

I was hungry for red beans & rice and was disappointed! The rice was chewy and tasteless due to being undercooked or old, and the red beans were mush. They did, however, have a nice selection and it’s in a nice location!

Wonderful Cajun cuisine. Jambalaya bowls are outstanding. Great cuisine. Very friendly, they even let you taste test prior to choosing your dish. And good local beer selection.

Very frustrating experience… They asked me what toppings I wanted so I told them and I get to the end to pay to find it was a $ 1.50 up charge. They should tell their customers these things or at the minimum fix it. When I brought it up the cashier just said well I wasn’t down their my co-worker was… So my meal came out to $ 10. There are way better places to eat for $ 4 cheaper and get the same quality food. Very disappointed.

Delicious food! Great staff! Very helpful when it’s your first time there. Great location in Gahanna! Gave us samples to make sure we ordered what we liked. Can’t say enough about the food! Very authentic!

To be fair, I can’t say I’ve had authentic cajun food before, so I’m not sure if I dislike cajun food, or if I just dislike J. Gumbo’s. But I suppose this is the closest I will get to it in Columbus. I love crawfish and spicy foods, so I decided to give this cajun cuisine a try on my lunch break. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the food. I tried a sample of the crawfish etoufee(which would have been served over a bed of rice), but it was too chowdery for me, so I ordered the Honey bourbon chicken, which is basically stewed chicken served as an open sandwich. It was just too sweet and not spicy enough for me. Plus, the added toppings of cheese, sour cream, and chives seemed odd. The location itself looked like it used to be a Panera, judging from the décor and furniture. They have a patio, which is nice on days like today. Wish I could say I would rerturn

Usually small family owned businesses care more about their clientele then bigger chains. This one seems not to & it’s a shame. I’m confused by this place. I’ve had Cajun/creole many times and I really enjoy it. This place… not so much. I pass by here all the time on my way to and from places and I kept thinking ‘I really should try this place sometime.’ 6 months later I find myself on Unilocal, reading some really encouraging reviews(as well as a few negative ones) and I really was in the mood for something different… something spicy. Long story short we ended up here, a local chain that we’ve had our eyes on for a while. We were excited to give them a shot. No one was there and it sometime around 7:30. Everything was covered when you walk in so when the girl asked us what we wanted we had no idea. We told her this was our first time in and she grudgingly open 2 containers to show us. We asked what she would recommend but instead of answering us she handed us a sample of the the top two order things: –Voodoo Chicken: Spicy, big piece of chicken that was juicy and flavorful. –Bumblebee stew: Husband liked it says it was sweet and spicy but well balanced. I thought it was nothing special, mostly corn. Then she handed us another sample: –Drunken Chicken: I couldn’t taste anything past the greasiness. Very little chicken in the tasting cup, just a lot of mushy chicken shreddings topped with grease. –Bourbon St Chicken: This is what I came here for but it was so fatty(the sample she gave was pure fat and grease, much like the Drunken Chicken). I tasted nothing Bourbon of the sort but a slight sweetness that, when mixed with the grease was very off putting. I ordered the Voodoo Chicken since it was the only thing I tasted that I liked and mainly because it had a big chunk of chicken and I was very hungry and this was promising to me. She recommended that I get Jambalaya as my base in stead of white rice. I love Jambalaya so I agreed, not knowing it was more money. –Jambalaya: Very watery which created a mushy mess. You can tell the rice was good but after putting the chicken on top it ruined the flavor of everything. My husband ordered the Bumblebee stew and Crawfish Étouffée. He LOVED crawfish. This is why we came. This is why he will never go back. He got his with white rice. –Crawfish Étouffée: Flavor was muddled, not any crawfish at all(no chunks and no flavor of crawfish) It was very watery at the bottom which made everything mushy. Over all I was very disappointed. The sample I got of the Voodoo Chicken was NOTHING like was in my bowl. The big hunk of juicy chicken she teased me with ended up being 4 pieces of chicken in my bowl but mostly just shredded pieces here and there which had no substance at all as chicken. When you cook meat this way it has a tendency of breaking down and almost dissolving into the broth, enhancing the flavor. The way they did it, somehow, lost the flavor and resulted in no meat in my bowl. Also, another HUGE problem, which is why I will never give them my money every again, was that this $ 8 bowl of chicken & rice was really a big ‘ol bowl of rice topped with a small amount of sauce that once has chicken in it. It was a rip off. My husband felt the same way about his meal as well. Having paid for 2 in his bowl he still didnt even have half a bowl of bubblebee stew & crawfish but less helpings of each to create the same amount I had with only 1. I feel ripped off. An $ 8 bowl of rice should at least be given to you with free toppings. But of course not. $.50 each for sour cream, chives, cheese, and jalepenos. I got cheese & sour cream in mine and he ordered cheese & chives in his. We both only got cheese. I spoke up about the sour cream and she gave me the tiniest scoop(She used a melon ball scooper!) and that was it. In all we paid $ 20+ for 2 bowls of rice! Something else to note: They were closing for at least another hour and they had started putting their food away in the back. I watched 4 costumers come in and think they were closed. She helped them the same as she helped us but it took twice as long for her to go into the back to make the food. This just seemed stupid to me. Don’t waste you’re money going here. They don’t seem to care much about their paying customers anyway. $ 10 for a bowl of rice! BOO!!! Don’t let the pictures fool you either. The rice comes 2/3rd’s the way up the bowl and then topped with whichever entrée/chicken you choose. It’s mostly sauce w/no chicken to speak of. Maybe all the chicken was given away earlier in the day. Who knows! The bread it comes with isn’t very good either, very limpy lame bread; much like wonderbread with a slightly less limp crust. Usually small family owned businesses care more about their clientele then bigger chains. This one seems not to & it’s a shame.

J Gumbo’s is super good. My only complaint is with the pricing. It seems like you usually spend over $ 10 when you go there. I’d like to see it priced like a Chipotle, where it’s around 6 bucks to eat and $ 8 with a drink. Besides the price, this place is awesome! I was very pleased with the customer service as the friendly employee explained the options to me and let me try whatever I wanted. I ended up with a burrito bowl, which I found to be quite good. It had a mix of some of the spicier chicken dishes they had. It was excellent and not too spicy! I did find it to be pretty messy when I tried to pick up the burrito, because it had soaked through. J Gumbo’s has a nice interior and a few tables outside. It was almost nice enough to eat outside today, but just a touch windy.

My usual lunch spot when in the office. I love this location because of the great service. Parking is limited. The food is classic Cajun — don’t miss the bumblebee stew! The voodoo chicken is so good! Or try a combination of 2 selections in a bowl of you can’t decide!

I know this is a chain restaurant but they never disappoint. The food is actually spicy when you want tit to be and the combinations are endless. Voodoo Chicken and Bumblebee combo is one of my favorites along with the Jambalaya and Bumblebee. Service is always top-notch as well! Take in your SBB card and get a free drink with your order too!
