I remember visiting the Downtown Branch of the Alachua County Public Library as a child(back when it was across University Ave) and walking out with a stack of books so high it would take me a couple weeks to read them all. They helped foster my passion for reading, and now they are doing the same for my son. The library is clean and spacious, divided into sections based on age and by topic. I’m always amazed to see a full parking lot at at book stores and not at a library where you can read the same books for free. The library carries all genres, as well as movies, books on tapes, public use computers and has so many great activities for children. The staff is over the top helpful, constantly looking for ways to engage and support visitors. This trip we brought my son to participate in an event to get children interested in STEM. He was able to work with UF Engineering students to build simple circuit boards, and explore virtual reality with Oculus. Super cool… He walked away with his pile of books and a budding passion for learning.

Spent an afternoon here to get some work done and check out the latest book in the junkie series I’m reading. It was very clean and not too crowded, so it was a nice place to sit and focus on my work.
