Cab 24 Hr

Curb hail from the airport. Car’s clean enough — I mean, it’s 14 minutes of my life, right? — but the non-​standardized fleet hits me like a vinyled-​up gypsy whip. No visible medallions, with only the small pricing placard facing inside (and the meter itself) to convince you it’s legit.
The meter on this thing is astronomical: a 4 mile, 10 minute ride finished out at $ 21 excluding tip. Which I tried to pay, but the driver couldn’t make change on $ 30. Asked why there was a $ 2 surcharge on the ride, and he said, «Oh, because of the luggage and things.» By this, he meant my laptop bag, which never left my side. Asked for a receipt and when the printer jammed, he said he couldn’t print out another copy.
So, I have a strip of paper that says CAB24HR​.COM CAB at the top, the date, and a hand written $ 21 as my proof of ride, and the knowledge that UberX is truly less than 50% of the going taxi rate in Gainesville. At least there was no puke surcharge, bro.

It was really late, about 4am when I called Cab24hr. We spoke for about 30 seconds and he assured me I would be picked up in less than 10 minutes. 7 minutes roll by and there he is! Talk about FAST! Arturo, the owner, is easily one of the nicest people I have met in a long time, offering me some of the most fantastic New York style pizza I have had in a LONG time from this joint in downtown Gainesville that I swear tastes better than Pino’s in Brooklyn! Anyhow, I had an early flight at Gainesville Regional Airport and really didn’t want to catch the 5AM lines, but he got me there swiftly, made it in record time with time to spare, so I just chilled out with Arturo for about 30 minutes talking about things from our cute kids, fantastic food in downtown Gainesville (he even recommended some amazing gems which I am infinitely grateful for like Boca Fiesta, which has some rockin vegetarian!) and spirituality. He’s a great guy and even gave me a discount on the fare for booking online. What a guy! These guys are fantastic, reminds me of the good ol days up north in the Big Apple, where you better get to know your cabbie if you want to get anywhere! HIGHLY RECOMMEND their services! Ignore the fake reviews by people who aren’t even from Gainesville, the same word-​for-​word fake ones are on Google. competitors are just downright nasty! Take my advice, call Arturo at Cab24hr, he is the best! Did I mention they also have an APP? Call them! You will definitely be pleased with their big, clean, spacious vehicles and their nice drivers!

I have used their services twice. First time I scheduled through their website. I got no confirmation email, so I decided to call. when I called in for the reservation, the person I spoke to sounded like he was asleep. This was two days before my requested pickup. Something told me it didn’t go through because no one even asked me for address or anything, so I called the next day to confirm. The guy told me they will be there. When it came to my pick up time, no sign of a courtesy call for pickup. I freaked out and called them. The guy said I wasn’t in the system. I had to make them pick me up right away, which they did. I almost missed my flight that time.
I thought that was a randomly bad experience, so I used their service again just yesterday for pick up to the airport. I scheduled the picked up at 2pm Saturday, and got confirmation about the time, date and location. They called at 5am on saturday telling me that they are in front of the apartment!!! I am very disappointed at their services. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone!!!

If you need to avoid a dangerous situation late at night, I wouldn’t recommend Gainesville Yellow Cab 24 Hour. While visiting Gainesville, I was in a tricky situation at 3:40am and needed to get a ride. Even after telling the dispatcher I was waiting on the curb alone in the downtown area, they kept telling me «something had come up» but my driver was on his way now. It took an hour and six phone calls for the cab to arrive.
I asked the cab driver what happened. It had nothing to do with an emergency — they simply take all of the rides to the airport first. If they couldn’t take the call, they should have communicated that upfront rather than promising «5 more minutes» and putting someone in a potentially vulnerable situation. Instead, they left a customer on a curb late at night so they could take more profitable rides.
