The staff was super friendly, talking to us and giving us suggestions for the best dishes(none of my party was from Gainesville /had Venezuelan food before). Her suggestion for the best Arepas were the Cuban or the Chorizo. I had the Chorizo Areapa and it was excellent. It’s a good thing I don’t live here, otherwise I’d be here a lot.

I am Venezuelan and I’ve been to this place four times. The first two were not so bad, but the last two were huge disappointments. I know this is not meant to be a 100% Venezuelan restaurant since they have other things on the menu. Nonetheless, I thought their empanadas were too oily and thick, and I didn’t like their tequeños either. I guess the arepas are okay. I hope to still see a place serving authentic Venezuelan food in Gainesville.

Awesome. Delicious. Fast. I got the Arepa Machada and my hubs got the chorizo. Both were excellent. The fresh juice was also fanatic. We split an order of plantains and we were not disappointed. The food is fresh and seasoned perfectly. Growing up eating Venezuelan cooking I know how authentic it tastes!

We came here after the homecoming game. All the standard places on University had longs lines and we were looking for something different. We both had arepas and really enjoyed them. Everything was very fresh and well seasoned. If you are little different place to have a quick bite near campus, you should give it a try.

The byline for Corner is Latin Confusion but there is no confusion when it comes to unbelievably great Latin food! Their arepas remind me of good southern home cooked ‘ho cakes’. They make everything on the menu from scratch and so far everything I’ve tasted is wonderful. My favorite arepa so far is the steak with chimchurri. Very tasty and lots and lots of steak. Everyone should come support Corner before they vanish as so many small restaurants in a college town do. You won’t be disappointed!

My mom and older cousin and I were cruising around Gainesville, FL, and while they reminisced about the old bars near the university, we went to see that one of the bars they used to frequent has been turned into this delicious Latin restaurant. Our server was really patient with us, which is great because we were a cackly bunch that evening. She explained all the food in detail, and brought us some sauce on the house. Even the cook came out and chatted with us about the food, answering any questions we had. The pitcher of sangria wasn’t very expensive at all and most definitely had its fair share of alcohol and fruit in it.

ive tried this place 3 times getting a different sandwich each time and am unimpressed with the garlic mayonnaise they drench over the bread. its oily, greasy, smelly, and bad to boot. when ordering a sandwich ask for without the garlic mayonnaise. what did it for me was being asked for money on my way in by one of Gainesville’s many able bodied young people who drift around town(which I declined) only to see him walk in the restaurant and ask for three free cokes and some side items which he got. this stunned me b/c Corners charged me(and anyone else) an extra fee for using a card. so we are all paying for any panhandlers asking for soda. thanks.

I went to this restaurant not knowing what to expect. I’m from Miami so I know good Spanish food and I expect not to find many good places outside of South Florida but MAN, WAS I WRONG! Corner has a huge selection of items that are not only affordable for your average college student roaming the streets of Gainesville, but they’re also SUPER delicious! I had the pork sandwich and the meat was tasty and juicy on fresh, flaky cuban bread. I can’t wait to go back to try the American-style breakfast too! Even better, the owner was there greeting everyone who walked in with a smile. He was super helpful in explaining the menu items to those who are not familiar with Spanish cuisine and beyond friendly. My food was made in a timely manner and served hot! Not to mention, the location is more then perfect with extra parking right across the street. I will not only be returning to the Corner, but I will also share and recommend this hidden Spanish treasure with all my friends!

Good, fresh food, decently priced! The empanadas were piping hot and fantastic, and the black beans were awesome.

First time trying out this place today and I was a bit disappointed. Corner is located next to Bagels and Noodles. The interior is very nice and service was good as well. I ordered the Milanesa Meal and the Chorizo. Firstly, I was disapointed with the portion size. With the Milanesa Meal I chose the tostones as a side and was only given 4. With the Chorizo they gave us a small handful of chips. I really like the Milanesa but the problem was that it was really dry. What I mean by dry is that there was no sauce that would compliment the rice and the Milanesa. Also, the rice wasn’t fresh and there were a few dry rice grains. The Chorizo was good though. I really like the flavor and seasoning of the meat. Overall, Corner is a very interesting place I would give it one more shot but for the time being I don’t think I would visit this place anytime soon.

My first time here and it was pretty good for Gainesville food. It’s across the street from UF, which is a great location. 4 stars because the hostess wasn’t right on the ball. The empanadas were good. I had a cuban arepa(venezuelan style), and it was pretty good. The arepa itself was a little dry. They serve malta, and I saw a few desserts that I’d like to try next time. My only complaint was that they only have 4 – 5 types of arepas, not many of the typical ones. And weird arepas: like an italian version and a penang version. I don’t know if I’m a purist, but why not carne mechada con queso? I would definitely recommend a visit and experience yourself. Maybe the penang arepa is amazing!

As much as I love trying new places, this experience is why I also hate trying new places: Disappointment. I went in at 11:15, so it was empty and the service was very quick. That’s the biggest positive I can give them. My 2 star rating is based entirely on the food. So, that food, yeah, it’s a «fusion». One thing that shouldn’t be fused is an empanada. They’re perfect the way they are and not to be f’d with. When I get a beef empanada, I don’t want tough, chewy shredded beef and a thick, heavy cornmeal breading. Empanadas should be light, flaky, and crispy. Quite possibly the worst«empanada» I’ve had in a long time. The Palomilla(steak) sandwich has gotten mixed reviews, but I gave it a shot anyway. At least it looked good, but that’s as far as it went. The steak was tough and lacked flavor. The«fries» are those crap ass fried potato sticks that you get by the can for 98 cents from the grocery store. I was like 8 the last time I had those things and there’s a reason for it. I dumped them onto the sandwich and ate it all anyway. My jaw hurt by the end of the sandwich and there were parts of the steak I couldn’t chew, it was that tough. The tomato was fresh, so there was that… For me, a waste of $ 12.

**Disclaimer** I have not eaten any food from the Corner. However, my better half was interested in trying them out so I called to place a pick up order for her. The first time I called the phone rang so long that I got the answering machine. When I tried again someone did answer and put me on hold, which I have no issue with because I work at a restaurant and I understand how busy business can get. I do believe that regardless of how hectic work may get a cheery voice over the phone can go a long way… unfortunately I did not get a ray of sunshine through my cell phone receiver. I look forward to placing my next order with the Corner and consuming it as well. My fingers are crossed that the service will be brighter and I can then amend this review. :D

Would have given 5 stars, but the phone service and the speed of service could use improvement. I called in an order on my way to work, so I was kind of in a hurry. I definitely called at least 20 minutes before I got there, and just ordered an Empanada. When I got there, they still hadn’t started making it, and then I was standing there for about 10 minutes before the cook even dropped the empanada into the fryer. On the plus side, the food was very good and the register girl gave me a free piece of flan to apologize for the wait, but I was still late for work :(. I will definitely come back, but probably not when I’m in a hurry.

Wow, Corner is a superb addition to the Gainesville foodscape! As a die-hard Flaco’s loyailst, I was interested to note this new, well-reviewed Latin«Confusion» spot when I consulted Unilocal for dining options over the weekend. I didn’t actually set foot in the restaurant, because we have boys to do things like that for us. As my girls and I showered and pre-gamed for a night romping around our old college stomping grounds, we sent our men to Corner do our food bidding and they pulled it off like the true gents they are! Arepas, Tostones, Palomilla, oh my! When they returned with stacks and stacks of smoky, sweet smelling to-go containers, I began to get an inkling that Corner was a great idea! For my meal, I simply requested«something porky»… my go-to at Latin eateries. What I got was a piggy, potato-y, packed full little pocket sandwich. Chunks of juicy, marinated pork were stuffed into a warm, toasty Arepa that had been split like a pita. Add red, juicy tomatoes and a garlicky mayo and you get one satisyingly savory creation that I relished up until the last bite. I also went for an appetizer order of Loaded Tostones, and they arrived looking delightfully colorful and delectable with fresh avocado sauce, cheese, and a smattering of black beans piled on top of little, warm, salty tostones. Sublime! We all adored our grub from Corner that night, and my friends who still reside in the ‘ville were happy to add a new spot to their restaurant rotation. Latin Confusion? It seems like they know what they’re doing to me!

Corner is a new Latin fushion place that went in not far from campus in the little strip of shops just east of the Holiday Inn on the same side of University Ave. They offer very affordable Latin American comfort food with an emphasis on Venezuelan but some Cuban dishes and even Argentine pastries. The staff are beyond nice and the small space they went into they’ve worked wonders with and via bright colors and clean, nearly industrial, styling turned it into a very pleasing and refreshing restaurant. The food I had was very fresh – even the empanada was made right then and was a world away from the empanadas you find in many restaurants which were, if you’re very lucky, cooked in the morning if not sometime prior. This one was fresh, still warm, and the dough as much buttery-creamy as flaky due to its freshness. Served with a house hot sauce, it was amazing. Given the fact Corner has outdoor seating, ample indoor space despite how tiny it is, and most of all great food, I suspect they’ll do quite well in Gainesville. And I would dare say we’ve been waiting a bit for Latin food of this caliber.

Great addition to gnv and the midtown area. So far the dishes and sandwiches are authentic and full of flavor. The menu is latin(con)fusion, centered around Venezuelan cuisine. The sign literally says«confusion» haha. So they have ceviche(Peru) and Cuban sandwiches, for example. I had the palomilla(steak) sandwich. A lean cut of steak, seasoned with mojo, topped with a garlic-y mayo and tomatoes — the bread was fresh and toasted. It comes with crispy potato fries on the side, which are best consumed on the sandwich in my opinion — just through em on there for some crunch. Not on the menu, but a must try are the«loaded tostones.» I love tostones, so this a bonus. See my photo. You can get them topped with beans or shredded pork, along with mojo sauce and mayo. I look forward to trying more dishes and will update for sure!
