Was there last night for the INsight party. Great Lemontinis, huge awesome crowd and I met two very cute girls at the bar. Then I had to introduce them to my girlfriend lest I get in trouble… heh. The space continues to be one of my faves in town.

Sad to see upon the last visit that the«newness» of this place seems to have disappeared… It just didn’t seem as clean and sparkly as it did before, wihch was one of its draws. Gainesville needs a place that Lux was when it first opened. I hope it survives, and keeping it clean should help draw the(right) crowds back.

NEVER again! My brother and I saw their website and decided to go to this place. We show up and my brother hears the door guy say, «Stragglers». Luckily for them I didn’t hear that. From the website my brother recognized the owner outside with the door guy. That shows the class of that loser of a businessman. One would think that guys wearing long sleeve shirts that grew up on South Beach would be welcomed to a bar in which they will order a few overpriced drinks. Anyways, since I didn’t hear the bouncer and his obviously stupid comment I was willing to walk in until the cashier girl tried to charge me $ 10. I am not a cheap or poor student, but when I looked inside I saw no one. I guess they insult everyone trying to walk in. Lux, you lost me forever and will be shut down by next year!

Lux is more of a stop than a destination, and even then, I only stop on nights when they aren’t charging cover. From looking over the bouncer’s shoulder, I don’t see anything going on in there on cover nights than non-cover nights, so I decline their offer of adding $ 5 to my drink and tip. The staff is fine, and the interior is beautiful if you take the time to admire it. I feel bad for the bartenders downstairs since most people head straight upstairs. There is a small balcony upstairs where you can smoke if you need to look cooler than you already do. Anyway, there’s my review. Stop in if there’s no cover(usually Saturdays) and give it a shot. Maybe you’ll rate it more than my 3 stars, but other than the nice interior I really don’t see anything worth getting too excited over. Price Range is moderate but quickly climbs to pricey if you stray from the basics.

The atmosphere was really nice. It’s described as «comfortable» setting, but it’s definitely a little dressier than your average bar. There’s two levels: the downstairs is more cramped whereas the upstairs has booths and an outdoor patio for smokers, which was really nice. The upstairs had a DJ playing eclectic 80−90s music, and there’s a small dancing area(very small). So while the area was really nice, the bartenders upstairs didn’t seem to know what they were doing. A lot of the drinks they made for us were terrible or too strong. My friend ordered a margarita, and they left out the sour without telling us they ran out! They weren’t familiar with their«speciality» drinks, I ordered the a Bellini which was on the menu, but the bartender told me she didn’t know what that and after I explained, she said that they didn’t carry Prosseco(so why was it on the menu?). A few times we caught the bartenders referring to their drink book. My friend and I ordered Seabreezes from two different bartenders… and both were completely different from each other in look and taste. Aside from that, there was a $ 5 cover on Friday night, and free drinks for ladies until 12am(I think someone said it only included tequila, vodka, and drafts? The cheap stuff naturally.). Sadly the best drink of the night was the Soco with lime. hard to mess that up. The overall bar and lounge had a great look and feel, but Lux still needs some work, especially if they’re charging you a $ 5 cover for you to BUY drinks. Everyone in the bar was nice though and it wasn’t run with overly obnoxious muscleheads.
