It really sucks that this place had to close, and I’m only bothering to write this because I’ve heard that it may reopen at a different location in Gainesville. They made the best pizza in town; better than Satchels, Leonardos, and any other challengers. The crust was amazing and had some kind of really good seasoning. They have a bunch of specialty pizzas; the few I’ve tried have been delicious, and they always piled on the toppings. They also had these pretzel things which were really good. It was a tiny bit on the expensive side for pizza, but it was good enough to make it worth it. Come back!

We had just arrived in Gainesville and we were looking for a cool place to grab a lunch bite. We saw the Mellow Mushroom and it looked like it’d fit the bill, so we went on in. Score! Total veg-friendly menu!!! I had my first taste of the lovely Jose’s tempeh on a buffalo tempeh pizza. It was delicious. I am jealous of you Gainesville folks for having constant access to this tempeh. The boy got the mega veggie pizza, which was loaded up with all sorts of vegetable sweetness. Unsweetened iced tea was tasty and they had a really good assortment of beers. I quite enjoyed the personalized Mellow Mushroom napkins.

There was, like, a month where I thought Mellow Mushroom was awesome and would go about once a week for the chicken fajita calzone. And then I realized it wasn’t really all that great. Not all that bad, but just not all that good either.

A bunch of us used to go here for the Monday night trivia. The emcee would drunkenly mumble insults at the contestants, all of whom were bros with team names that were unfunny references to whatever national tragedy happened that week. The wait staff at the Top is too cool to be nice. The wait staff at The Mellow Mushroom is too pissed off about the fratboys trying to get into their tiny shorts to be nice.

Best pizza in Gainesville(yes, better than Satchel’s), especially the white pizza. Lots of veggie options.

This is my favorite place to eat in Gainesville. I take a lot of friends who come to visit here, and most of them say it’s the best pizza they’ve ever had. My absolute favorite is the kosmic karma pizza with swirls of pesto, but they have countless options for everyone on the menu(including tons for other vegetarians like me). The hummus is amazing too, garlicky and served with warm pita bread and mixed greens. The service is always great, and the staff is very friendly. I found my favorite beer here last year when our waitress recommended it(sweetwater blue), and my only complaint about the restaurant is that they have always run out of it when I go there.

Mellow Mushroom is my favorite pizza of all time! It really does beat out some of my top Chicago spots. I think it’s the crust. Little buttery, parm cheese makes it a stand out. The place itself is bright and has vinyl disk covers and interesting murals on the wall. Large glasses of water meaning you don’t have to get frustrated when you need a refill like other places. Fresh, yummy crust and prices aren’t bad for what you get. Check it out!(especially when you need an upgrade from 5 Star)
