Drove down from Winstar Casino to sample local fare & saw that some reviewed this place highly. My experience was as follows: Ordered 2 soft tacos($ 1.99 each) & small guacamole($ 1.50) Brisket taco: full of brisket, cheese, tomatoes, pretty good but a little dry Carne asada(steak): way overcooked, dry & tough meat, closer to beef jerky in texture, no flavor. This was obviously left over meat that had been re-heated several times. Without question the worst carne asada taco I’ve had in my 60 years. Guac: individual portion, plenty for 2 tacos. 2 types of squeeze bottle salsas provided, very mild red & peppery green. The single corn tortillas used were soft and held their texture, did not fall apart. The place has about 6 – 8 tables. I sat down & they brought the tacos to me, individually wrapped in foil. Since I was seated I expected at least a plate but none was provided. Just open the foil and eat off that. Cheap meal with cheap ingredients, recommend a pass

Best Mexican food in Gainesville! Carne Asada torte or Super Burrito w/everything is my favorites! Brisket tacos, cheese enchiladas, and quesadillas also good! Also have Breakfast tacos. Cash only, small sitting area and busy during the lunch time but worth it!

I had no clue this place even existed. I just happened to be driving down Clements St(one block E of Grand Ave) and passed it. The sign said«Mendez» so I was like WTF is this place… is it a place to eat or a barbershop or what. I ended up looking it up on Unilocal to figure it out. Despite being out of sight(on Clements rather than Grand) this place seems to do good business. The inside is quite nondescript as you can see from the pictures, and the lunch crowd seems to be a mixture of blue and white collar workers. Yesterday I went at noon and it was packed so today I went at 11am to beat the lunch crowd. Yesterday I had the Burrito plate enchilado style which was outstanding. It’s a ground beef burrito smothered in queso. I definitely recommend it. The rice and beans were both good as well. Today I had the Carne Asada Super Burrito which was also quite tasty. The carne asada was a bit tough for my liking though, perhaps a bit overcooked. I would expect that from time to time at this price point so I will be checking back again in the future to see if that is a trend or a one time occurrence. The brisket tacos are awesome. They are very juicy but not overly greasy like you might find in taquerias down in Dallas. I’d say they are the best thing that I’ve tried on the menu. Everything is very well flavored and the salsa tastes good. I think the prices are on the high side but quite fair. The tacos are small in size but they are stuffed with a lot of meat. The size and price is similar to what you will find in Dallas. If this place was located in Dallas, I would actually choose it over the taquerias I have been to there(and i’ve been to many).

Stopped in on the way thru Gainesville… got a bunch of different tacos, including carne asada, barbacoa, & chorizo. All the tacos were just average, not bad by any means, but also nothing special. Be warned — the tacos are tiny and overpriced at $ 1.65 each. I ate three and could have easily eaten three more, but didn’t at that price. Didn’t try them but saw a dozen tamales for $ 14. $ 14! That’s outrageous for a dozen tamales! I can only assume the locals love this place because they don’t have many options but for someone who’s eaten various other taquerias with better food at better prices, I’ll pass next time.

We were passing through town and glad we took a chance. It was a great stop for a quick lunch. The Torta plate and Enchilado plate were tasty and filling. The guacamole was a standout.

Got tamales and a beef enchilada plate to go. All food was excellent except rice which was a little bit under cooked. Will highly recommend this place to anyone.

This place has been around for a long time. I used to go in as a kid and get Mexican candy, now as an adult I go for the brisket tacos. Best I have found! The tres leche cake is also amazing but I can only get it every once in a while cause I eat the whole thing and it is a huge piece. They also sell local honey, Mexican vanilla, Mexican cola’s and yummy horchata.(sorry if I misspelled any of that…)
