Comfort Inn Shady Grove – Gaithersburg – Rockville

I think once the renovation is done this hotel might be pretty nice. Unfortunately for us to be here during renovation is not very pleasant. The floor we are on is quite cluttered and messy, and the workers make quite a bit of noise starting as early as 7 in the morning. They bang and chatter to each other right outside the door.
There is a nice breakfast and it was very close to the surgery center where my son had his surgery so that was nice, but not getting sleep at a hotel is kind of a big deal. :(

I had a decent stay but PLEASE DO NOT allow people to smoke RIGHT IN FRONT of the building! It’s very uncomfortable trying to get your luggage out of the car while unwillingly breathing in all that tobacco smoke! The smoke also fills the lobby, whether or not the front doors are open. There is a COVERED ENTRANCE RIGHT ACROSS THE DRIVEWAY FROM THE HOTEL– make them smoke THERE!!!

This place is alright. Clean, affordable, front desk is friendly. There’s a weird little store full of touristy junk. The hallways have a strange smell. However, the breakfast spread is nice and well-​stocked. Not bad for the price.

Stayed for a week back for another 5 nights. People at front desk are so pleasant. You wonder which planet they come from. We all need move there. Richard is so helpful. Room is small but clean, functional. For the price it is definitely a good choice.

My stay here was fine — but I felt the need to write this review to warn people about their «shuttle service» to the metro.
I was taking a training class at work and I arrived at the front desk at 8am to catch the shuttle to the metro stop (which is definitely walk-​able if the weather’s nice and you have time, but it’s by no means close). They said that it had just left and would be back in ten minutes. Ten minutes later, nothing. 20 minutes later, nothing. There were a few people gathering, and somebody asked again, and they said ten minutes. 35 minutes later the shuttle arrived. I had to skip breakfast to make it to my class on time because the shuttle came so late. I thought to myself, alright, tomorrow I’ll just plan earlier, even though I had thought I had planned well enough in advance.
The next day, the same thing happened. I got to the front desk earlier, but there was a van’s worth of people already waiting (by the way, it’s only a mini van shuttle). So I was effectively in the same time crunch as I was the first day. I was just about to hire a taxi when the shuttle came, again 35 minutes after picking up the first batch of people.
What continues to boggle my mind is that the metro stop is 3 minutes by car down the street. I kid you not. And this shuttle has a Comfort Inn label on the side, so I don’t think he works for other places. 35 minutes to come back from a trip that takes 3 minutes — just keep that in mind if you have to be anywhere on time and you’re taking the metro shuttle from this hotel.

This is possibly the worst hotel in terms of customer service. This comfort inn has actually charged me money by mistake then lied about proper refunding. I for one will never stay with this place again. And will be reaching out to choice hotels in rockville. Rooms also smell of smoke.

This comfort Inn is a bit pricier than most Choice Hotels that I stay at. But from the website’s pictures, the room seemed much nicer than the others around. The building also doesn’t look like most other Comfort Inns. Its a tall almost corporate red brick type of building. The front desk is one of the most friendly I’ve ever came across. When another guest was getting checked in, another staff walked by and saw me waiting and came to check me in. Too many times at other places, other staff would just walk right on by. He not only checked me in, but made sure to offer things like maps, guides, metro info, dining options, and any other questions I had about the area. He made sure I got the room that I wanted and checked me in very swiftly. The room was a decent size, everything is very clean. There is extra outlets by the work desk. All the lamps have outlets as well. The TV have extra movie channels as well. The microwave and fridge in the room seemed very updated and modern. My favorite part? SUPER FAST INTERNET! I was getting 10 – 25 Mbps download and 5 – 9 Mbps upload. In the afternoon, I went for a workout in their gym and there was 3 treadmills which none of them worked, but the elliptical did. There was also a workout bench and weight machine, no free weights though :(
All in all, if I am in the area, I definitely will stay at this location again.

Great staff, awesome breakfast with Dunkin Donuts, free appetizers and drinks on Tuesday nights. Best hotel in the area!

Watch out! They took my credit card into the office and photocopied it when I checked in! Are you kidding me? And when I protested, they started ripping it by hand and throwing it in the trash, didn’t even shred it! The manager or owner was standing right there acting like this was all quite normal. Hallways are noisy and walls are thin. Won’t be staying here again.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for three nights in December. I have to say, it was a pleasant surprise! When we arrived, the television connection in our room was very poor and the safe was locked in the open position. I reported both to the Front Desk and when we came back in later, both items were taken care of. The room was clean when we arrived and the housekeeping staff did a good job each day. Each person at the front desk — especially Richard — was courteous and professional. They offer an «expanded» continental breakfast. Pretty good selection of food. Fresh, hot coffee, a selection of juices, cereals, fruits and even a nice Belgian waffle maker. Tuesdays they put out late afternoon snack with cheese, crackers, beer, wine and soda. Unfortunately, some other guests took several beers each back to their table so some of us missed out. No big deal. They offer a shuttle over to the Shady Grove Metro stop. It is a short ride and they are great about picking you up quickly. One day, the shuttle was not immediately available and they ordered a cab for us and paid or it. Frankly, far more accommodating than I would expect from a Comfort Inn. Based on a couple of experiences with this chain, i wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again. I recommend it.

Breakfast: Good selections, even for a health conscious person.
Accessibility: The hotel has shuttle services to and from Metro so the DC area is easily accessible.
Parking: Decent parking area
Price: For the quality and Service the price was right.

Cons:
Not so many shops and restaurants around the hotel so to do some grocery shopping or to grab a meal you probably need a car.
The noise level in the corridors can be quite high during mid day.

Having flown into and out of Washington D.C. on a recent trip East, we stayed at this Comfort Inn both coming and going. During our 2 ½ week trip the front desk area was completely remodeled. Since the hotel is in the D.C. area it is elegantly decorated and seems upscale compared with other Comfort Inns I’ve been in.
The breakfast area attached to the lobby is open with several tables and room to move around but roped off after breakfast hours. On Tuesday evenings the hotel offers free appetizers to guests.
The rooms are also elegantly decorated with nice furnishings, marble counters, decent sized refrigerator, and soft cushy beds & bedding.
We didn’t use the Metro, but there is a Metro stop about a block away which would make it easy to get into downtown D.C. for sightseeing. There is also a large shopping center called the Washingtonian Center just across I-​270 with several shops and restaurants.
Next time we go through the D.C. area we will definitely stay here again.
