Love this place! Service is fast and great! They are always looking to make sure you have everything you need. Great to go on a Saturday or Sunday because they have carts so it’s a nice dim sum experience! The food is always fresh and hot. Hoping this place stays! We never have to wait for a table

This place was great! I don’t usually eat dim sum bc I rarely get good dim sum but I’ve been actually craving dim sum from this place. This will definitely be my go to place for dim sum in this area.

One of the better Dim Sum places in the Rockville/Gaithersburg area. All the items were decent but the staff were really friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants some dim sum at random hours of the day.

My first time here was on a Monday evening. The place was almost empty but the service was very friendly and warm. This is not typical of Chinese restaurants. We ordered the shrimp noodle(crêpe) and it was amazing. The crepes were soft and slightly chewy with large plump shrimp. The rest of the dim sum including the shiu Mai were just ok but overall the experience was pleasant. I would come back for a weekday dim sum fix.

I was looking forward to this new dim sum place, but I was sadly disappointed. I came in on a weekend at lunchtime and we were seated immediately. The majority of the food we got was lukewarm despite multiple new carts coming out. My friends got chicken feet from one of the steamed item carts and a couple minutes later, a waitress came to our table and took it back because another table had found it was still cold inside so she wanted to heat it up for us, which took a really long time. Our teapot was also empty for a really long time and when a waitress finally came to our table, she asked my friend what time it was and then walked away without taking the tea pot to refill. It seems they produce more food than necessary since there aren’t that many customers. Overall, the taste of the food was average, but not as great due to the temperature.

Dim Sum Restaurant(formerly Hunan Place Restaurant) is a restaurant that serves Cantonese, Taiwanese, and Thai cuisine. My parents and I came here for a late dim sum lunch and most of our favorites were sold out. I liked the flavor of most of the dishes. However, I didn’t like how majority of the items we ordered were served cold or at room temperature. We ordered about 9 dim sum items for under $ 50(including tax and tip). We ordered the following: Shrimp and Chive Roll(#56), Fried Sticky Dumpling with Chicken(#45), Shrimp and Pork Dumplings(#2), Pan Fried Stuffed Eggplant with Shrimp(#50), Jumbo Shrimp Dumplings(#1), Cilantro with Beef Rice Noodles(#22), Beef Varieties(#16), Bean Curd Pork Wrap(#5), and Steamed Beef Meat Balls(#6). The Shrimp and Chive Rolls were crispy flat rolls stuffed with minimal amount of shrimp and chives. I liked how the Fried Sticky Dumpling was filled with chicken as opposed to pork. I liked the steaming hot Shrimp and Pork Dumplings and Jumbo Shrimp Dumplings. The Pan Fried Stuffed Eggplant with Shrimp was tasty, greasy, but lacked shrimp. I also liked how the Cilantro with Beef Rice Noodle came with sweet soy sauce on the side and Steamed Beef Meat Balls came with Lea & Perrin sauce on the side. The Beef Varieties was probably my least favorite dish. It consisted of beef tendon and white radish in a spicy brown, five spiced sauce. Since others said their Taro Smoothie was good, I had to try it — it was good but nothing special.

So far the best affordable dim sum place in DC metro area I found. I go there at least once a week. And I’m international student Guangdong(Canton), China where dim sum is everywhere and a very big deal for us. so if you doesn’t like the dim sum here, you should probably go to some more Americanized dim sum place. This place is very authentic. And the service is very good and considerate. I highly recommend this place hahaha. What do I recommend? BBQ prok bun or other similar dim sum 叉烧包或者叉烧酥; Porridge 粥; different kinds of rice noodle 肠粉.

I recently moved back from NYC and I’ve been looking for a new dim sum spot that would satisfy my cravings. If you’re looking for dim sum in Gaithersburg, this place is it. The food taste fresh, unlike New Fortune where it seems to be reheated multiple times or just cold. However nothing beats dim sum in Chinatown, NYC for me. They do not push carts around, but service was quick. They also serve dim sum all day long which is definitely a plus! I came here for dinner. The lights were dimly lit, which made it a little difficult to see all the pictures on the menu to order off of. We ordered 5 dishes and the total came out to $ 22.

It’s good if you’re craving dim sum on a random Saturday night and can’t wait until Sunday morning. We ordered our usual staples and were pleased with most, but not all. Highlights: hot and crisp eggplant stuffed with shrimp, har gau dumplings, shrimp rice noodle rolls, turnip cake. The rest: just okay. The baked bbq pork buns were too doughy for my liking. We actually didn’t order these originally but they were out of the flaky pastry pork buns. You should pass on the pan fried chicken buns. The fried taro dumplings were also different… they had less filling, more taro. The service was really friendly and they quickly cleared plates and brought the food as soon as it was ready. It’s good if you’re in a pinch but for a regular weekend dim sum outing, this wouldn’t be my first pick.

I was thrilled to find a Dim Sum restaurant in the Gaithersburg area and was not disappointed on my first visit. I went for lunch, right around noon and it moderately busy but still a nice quiet atmosphere. As others have mentioned, the décor is simple and modest but the service is outstanding! I was greeted by a very friendly woman and showed to a seat right away. The timing on the food was great, not arriving too quickly or too slow. The Dim Sm that I ordered: Fried bean curd filled with vegetables, steamed shrimp dumplings with chives, and egg filled buns were reasonably priced and yummy. It may not be 5 star food, but it is great comfort Dim Sum and the service really makes the experience one worth repeating.

This place is pretty good. Came in, sat down, and food starts to roll out bam bam bam! They encourage you to eat. like It felt like you are at your grandmas’ house and she keeps feeding you. I mean I know that’s how they make money, but it felt good. And the ladies are super duper very very nice and efficient :) probably start going here for my dim sum cravings now. Oh n the price is a deal

This is Hong Kong dim sum in its most basic form — the restaurant is a small room with the bare minimum decorations, and several of the dim sum carts are actually plastic mail carts you’d find in an office. Nevertheless, the dimsum isn’t bad and the small space makes it easy to get staff attention easily and/or see what’s available on the carts. You can find all the staples here, including my favorite shrimp dumplings, shumai, noodle rolls, and pork spare ribs, at pretty reasonable prices. Although it’s small, it doesn’t seem to get too crowded. 8 of us came in on a Sunday around noon and had no trouble getting a table.

We came here on a Sunday around 11:30 am. It wasn’t crowded yet so we got seated right away. The food here was ok. Though the selection is a bit lacking. There were only 3 carts that were going around. However, the food wasn’t bad. We got 10 dishes which included shumai, shrimp balls, meat balls, sticky rice, ribs, shrimp wrapped in flat rice noodle, and other typical dim sum orders. I guess I can’t really say anything bad about the dishes themselves. Just that nothing really stood out for me. None tasted bad, but none really tasted amazing. If you have the itch to get dimsum and driving far is not an option, this place is definitely worth a try.

I was super excited to see a dim sum place open up in this area, because they are literally all in Silver Spring, Wheaton and VA. I used to live right across the street, they opened a couple months after I moved — which I was so bummed about. But managed to be in the area for lunch one day, and decided to give it a try. My first experience was so-so, and I think I may need to give it one more try when I feel up to it. I came in and ordered for pick up. They were so busy and the credit card machine was down. So the employees were really going through it. But through all the stressful drama they had, the owner was very nice and sweet. So I give them good service for that. She even thanked me for trying them out and hoped that I would enjoy it, which I really liked. I had the shrimp dumpling«ha gow», shrimp stuffed eggplant, crispy taro dumplings and shrimp and chive dumplings. The taro wasn’t very good, I’ve definitely had better. As for everything, it wasn’t bad, but everything was cold and had been sitting. So I can’t justify this experience to be my final, so an update will be in order once that happens! For now the food was medicore. I don’t know how it is on weekends, but on weekdays they provide you with a menu that has all the dim sum options on it. Most items have photos which is nice, and are ordered, then brought to your table. No carts! The price isn’t super great, but it’s not as expensive as some places in VA.

I mean, this place is called DIMSUM. They couldn’t be less original. The only thing this place has going for it is that it’s all day dim sum, so if you’re on your way to jail at 6pm or something and you really just want your dim sum fix, you can come here. It’s not good, the portions are really small and it’s pretty expensive. And it’s run down like they took over a 1990s Mexican restaurant with old school booths and everything, so it’s definitely not going for any glam/authentic factor. 4 people got 9 ha gow shu mai woo tow gok type dishes and paid $ 15 pp. We left hungry and dissatisfied. Far East and Wong Gee are better bets in MD

In the back of my mind, I have always thought that a moderately good Dim Sum restaurant in northern Montgomery County could be very successful. Those who don’t live near Silver Spring or close to Northern Virginia have limited options and the long wait times at subpar Dim Sum joints in the area become a big deterrent for spending time to get up for a dining experience during the weekend. To state some positives about this place, Dim Sum Garden sells Dim Sum the entire time it’s open. If anything at all, Dim Sum Garden has solved one of my biggest issues of and it’s that I can go here whenever I want to get Dim Sum. They probably serve ~60+ dishes at prices from $ 4−6/dish. Prices are reasonable, there is a variety of Dim Sum, it’s conveniently located, they serve Dim Sum throughout the day, and the wait is short. Sounds like it hit all the marks but it falls short on the critical factor which is the quality of the food. It’s just average Dim Sum. I have so little to write about in this review since the Dim Sum… really. is just average. Since there is a small crowd, the food isn’t fresh and probably coming frozen stock, the dim sum skin is thick, and even the soy sauce is a bit too sweet and off-point. Of the Dim Sum that stood out, I recommend the Shu Mai, and the shrimp dumplings. If I’m getting cravings for Dim Sum and I’m lazy, this is a spot that I would think about going once in a while. That being said, I don’t see any reason for anyone living South of Rockville to come here for Dim Sum. There are better options in the DMW.

In my experience, dim sum restaurants are weekend war zones where you battle customers and servers to snatch a dish off a cart. And wonder how much each dish costs as the workers write down unintelligible marks on your«receipt.» And hope that the food will be at least lukewarm when you eat it. I have been to my fair share in the area, including New Fortune(ugh), Silver Fountain, Oriental East, A&J, Gourmet Expressions, and more. But Dim Sum has changed all that, and I am so thankful that I have a go-to dim sum restaurant that is friendly, serves dim sum ALL the time, has delicious food, and is open late. When we first entered the restaurant(7PM on a weekday), there were only two tables filled. The décor was basic and unassuming. That’s about it for the cons, if you can even call it a con. Everything just went right as soon as we walked in the door. The co-owner(the wife) greeted us warmly and directed us to a booth. In less than 10 minutes we had ice water, a steaming pot of Pu-Erh tea, and our orders whisked away to the kitchen. The Food: Completely authentic, delicious, flavorful, non-greasy, and fresh! You can tell that the food was prepared to order, and not carted around like a typical dim sum restaurant(although they do use a cart to deliver the food, maybe for authenticity’s sake). —#1(Har-Gou) Jumbo Shrimp Dumpling, $ 4, 4 count: I was hesitant to order this because of the price. But we did it anyway and I am so glad we did. Every dumpling was large and flavorful, with at least 2 shrimps inside each dumpling. I never thought these dumplings could even have this kind of flavor, but there it was, dancing on my tongue, begging me not to share any more and just eat all the rest. In fact, Hojin usually dislikes this dish, but he claimed it was his favorite of the meal. —#12 B.B.Q. Pork Bun, $ 3.25, 3 count: For dim sum, BBQ pork buns are my favorite. At Dim Sum, they are more than a favorite. They’re elevated to the«I-love-these-so-much-I’m-ordering-some-to-go» kind of favorite. The outside bread was white, fluffy and slightly sweet, with stir fried BBQ pork on the inside. Perfect ratio. Perfect texture. Perfect flavor. The best I’ve ever had. —#20 Steamed Chinese Broccoli, $ 5.99: At every dim sum experience, I dread the vegetables. They’re usually expensive and flavorless unless drenched in sauce(which makes them too salty). Thank the Lord Jesus that Dim Sum fixed this! They mixed the freshly steamed Chinese Broccoli with the sauce so that every piece was lightly covered, which resulted in healthy, fresh goodness. The only complaint I have for this dish is that the broccoli pieces were too big, which resulted in my smearing the sauce on my face. But I guess it’s forgivable. —#51 Pan Fried Pork Bun with Vegetables, $ 4.29, 3 count: This was yummy but it didn’t blow me away. The inside pork/vegetable filling was good, but the outside bun tasted a bit bland and stuck to the bottom paper lining. Probably wouldn’t order again. —#40 Baked Pineapple Custard Buns, $ 4, 3 count: What a fantastic end to a scrumptious meal! They were picture perfect, with the crunchy sweet crust on top, chewy bread, and sweet custard on the inside. Also, their Pu-Erh tea is worth it(75 cents per person). It has a good smoky flavor, and doesn’t taste like hot water. The Service: Best customer service ever. The wife, as mentioned before, was our server and was the only server that night. Instead of being neglected, she catered to every one of our needs. In Chinese restaurants, you signal that your teapot is empty and needs refilling by leaving the top open. The wife did not even let it get to that point. She checked on our teapot twice, and filled it for us when it was empty(we didn’t even ask/signal for a refill). She also asked us if we needed a box, and never let the dishes pile up. Oh, and when a man with a little girl came to pick up take out, she kindly offered some fortune cookies to the kid. We also had a little chat: The server and her husband owns the restaurant. They opened about a month ago, and it was both their ideas to have an all-day dim sum restaurant. In the morning, they both prepare the food. When the restaurant opens, she serves and he cooks. She says that they really wanted to emphasize that home-styled flavor, and that freshness is key. Her recommendations? Try new things, but definitely try the sesame balls for dessert and the crispy taro dumpling. Other things: They sell congee, smoothies and bubble tea. They are also pricier than normal dim sum restaurants. The Verdict: For great dim sum, great service, and an overall great dining experience, go to Dim Sum. It’s pricier but worth it for the homemade flavor. You won’t be disappointed, and hopefully you’ll fall in love with is just like we did.

3.75 stars. I would rate Dim Sum restaurant to be decent, but not superb. However, if I really craved dim sum and didn’t want to spend too much time and effort, then I would come here. The place is fairly new and quiet, and the staff is really friendly. I am happy that this place exists just because I wouldn’t have to spend so much time waiting in line. They also serve a variety of sweets and congee dishes. We ordered 5 dim sum dishes: Jumbo shrimp, shu mai-shrimp and pork, shrimp dumpling with green chives, chiu-chow dumpling with minced pork & peanuts and shrimp rice noodle. My honest opinion is that these dishes are definitely not as good as the ones you get in Philly or New York. Especially the shu mai pieces were small and didn’t have shrimp on top like other places do, which was slightly disappointing. If I had to recommend one dish, it would be shrimp dumpling with green chives which was actually fairly tasty. I enjoyed sweet shrimp flavors and chives together. We also ordered chicken and beef congee, but we couldn’t finish it so we packed it to go. The congee might taste a bit bland for some people, so I would suggest asking to put more ginger in it. Our total bill was around $ 35, and we were happy about it. One tip: They charge for hot tea per person.

I had high hopes for this place. But for the price, the dishes are really small and the taste wasn’t that good. We spent $ 50, 12 dishes for 3 people and we’re still hungry. The siu mai, ha gow and churn fun were all ok. My favorite dish was the stuffed eggplant. Everything else just wasn’t worth it. Service was friendly and attentive. There’s nothing wrong with the front end of the business. I was sad to learn that only 2 people in the entire restaurant speak Cantonese. The search for a close by, tasty, dim sum place continues.

When in the burbs of DC, it’s time to get real Chinese food. Dim Sum didn’t let us down. This restaurant is newly opened(1 month old) and serves Hong Kong style dim sum. The chef is also the owner and has 20 yrs of experience. He previously had a restaurant in Chicago’s Chinatown and moved to the DC weather to avoid Chicago winters. Smart gut. Our server was super friendly and made some good recommendations. Everything we got was really good. Stand outs were: Curry turnip cake — Really unique and I’ve never had a dish like this before. Our server recommended we try it as a house special Sesame balls — I usually don’t like them b/c the balls are greasy and not crunchy. These were delicious! Perfectly fried so crispy on the outside and not greasy and the inside was just chewy enough. I’d definitely come back again!
