CLOSED for good and good riddance. Great location– how to fail? Bad food, horrendous service. Will miss the chance at a diner this close by, but it’s on to Ted’s Bulletin over in the megalopolis that is Downtown Crown. Ugh.

Big bummer… this seems to be closed down. I was really looking forward to eating here after a round of monster mini golf and had planned a part of the trip on it. Luckily it is close to other nice establishments. Giving low stars because it wasn’t open when it said it would be…

Seems to no longer be open once again. They have been closed down for several weeks with no explanation, and their mail is now strewn about on the ground near the door. Not sure what’s going on.

What a lousy restaurant. There are about 15 negative things I could say but I’ll keep it to one or two. We were there for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Three of us ordered pancakes. They were inedible. It was like a Three Stooges episode where they were knawing on leathery-pancakes. Horrible. We sent them back and, correctly, the restaurant let us order lunch items as replacement. The lunch items weren’t much better. There is a serious lack of management at this restaurant. We will not be returning.

I love diners. The food is simple, fast, and cheap. I feel like I need to visit the kitchen to understand what went into making the food here so bland. How do you make a basic cheese omelet so boring that it’s not worth eating? How do the onion rings taste like empty fried nothing? Kudos to Star Diner? Sadly for them, and happily for me, I won’t be dining there again.

Don’t eat here if you are hungry OR have any sort of time commitments. Very very slow.

This diner has gone completely downhill. The omelets and waffle were fine but gyro looked like it was frozen processed meat and hamburger also seemed frozen. Lots of staff standing around but waiter couldn’t seem to get the order right. Bunless burger came with a roll. Salad came without dressing and each time we asked, the waiter disappeared and we had to ask another waiter for help. My son had to get up and search for his own syrup for his waffle after the waiter took off. Several tables with food being sent back. This diner is a dump.

Star Diner has reopened under new ownership so today we had lunch. I was hopeful. Sadly the new owners have missed an opportunity to change. Change the name, change the décor, change the service, change the food. The Star Diner was bad and the name had no value in our neighborhood. What replaces it is worse. The front door had a huge sign saying they were no longer taking Living Social coupons. In big, handwritten letters. Not inviting and not a good start. The hostess was dressed in ratty jeans. The cake and pie case at the entrance was empty with a few cellophane wrapped pastries on the counter. Really? Convenience store food? Our server was bedraggled but attentive. The food was a mediocre at best. The chicken tenders were obviously frozen, as were the fries. The cole slaw was inedible. Lastly, the men’s room was dirty, with junk piled up beneath the sink. The Kentlands has a number of new well run restaurants. Buying and reopening this diner could have been a home run. Everyone in the neighborhood hated it(the previous owners went bankrupt) but everyone wants a good diner for an early breakfast, a quick burger or shakes and fries after the movies. Sadly, we will once again skip the Star Diner and patronize the many other great venues in the neighborhood. Best of luck to the new owners.

Star Diner is reborn. New owners. Nothing really has changed since it was closed. Same booths chairs. I had California omelet and also I ordered side of scrapple. The very young server(must be in high school) had no idea what scrapple was. Lol. If everything is still the same(menu, atmosphere, tiki bar) I wonder how the new owners will stay in business, as the previous owners tried. Hoping for the best.

New ownership. Had breakfast there. Kitchen did well, food was good. Service/servers need time to get their act together. I’ll wait a month or so before giving it a second chance.

Star Diner has a new owner! The French toast is much better now. The wait staff is still aloof, but the food is much better. The bacon still leaves much to be desired, but the home fries are better than before. The verdict: The Star Diner deserves a second chance.

This diner has re-opened under new management. We ate there tonight and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service was very good and the food absolutely delicious. The new management has retained the many healthy menu options, which is a plus. It’s nice to have this landmark restaurant open again.

I have been here twice for brunch and sadly do not plan to return. The food is average, nothing incredibly awful, but also not much to recommend. The main issue for me is the cleanliness, or lack thereof. On our most recent visit, we discovered a colony of ants invading our table and scurrying across the table at odd intervals. When we complained we received no apology, they simply moved our table – eeek! No thanks!

The one good thing about the Star Diner was the waitress. She was very kind, handled all of our orders with many substitutions with ease, and didn’t even have to write them down! On the negative side– water wasn’t always refilled super quickly and coffee took a while to get refilled. I ordered the veggie omelette with chicken in it. The omelette was overcooked, the chicken was dry, and the fruit cup only had 2 pieces of strawberry to eat. I’m giving it 2 stars though for the generally good service and because my future father-in-law was so happy to be getting a burger. I would not go back on my own though.

Went here with my husband for the first time tonight. It was really good! We both got breakfast platters — mine with with scrambled eggs, home fries, toast, and scrapple and his with country fried steak, over easy eggs, home fries, and toast. Any place that serves scrapple is a plus! Everything was tasty and we will definitely be back again. For a Saturday night, it wasn’t busy at all. With all the bad reviews I can see why many would avoid the place. But, we gave it a shot and had a nice dinner :)

We used to come here all the time when we lived in the area about 7 years ago. When we found ourselves nearby we had to come. Service was great. Everyone was nice and we assume it was the owner who was chatting up my husband about the Jets. Our waiter was attentive but non-invasive. I had the BLT with avocado and it was not only delicious but HUGE as it should be at a diner. My husband had the East Side pastrami and said it was good but small. My daughter had a chocolate chip pancake that she enjoyed. A little pricey($ 34 before tip). Worth the trip and will plan to stop by again when we’re in the area.

This used to be a place we frequent a lot until we finally realized that the food was under par and owner was a «fill in the blank with your choice of expletive». On top of that, the owner is absolutely rude and full of himself. Hey if you don’t believe me, ask the people who work there. I guarantee you nobody likes the owner. It could be a fantastic place with really great service, but it’s hard to pay money to a terrible owner. He clearly has no class and treats customers like crap. Why go to a place that doesn’t care for its workers as well as the customers? Why am I saying all this? Well lets just say, when the owner was treating my group of friends unfairly, I told him that I eat here a lot and I’m a good customer. He said, «Yea I know». And the he walked away! Guess he didn’t care that I’ve spent a lot money in his establishment and put money into his pockets. So save your money and just please go elsewhere. I’d rather give my money to someone in need than this a-hole. Hey if you like a-holes then go to Star Diner!

We really want to like this place. It’s in the heart of the Kentlands and we’ve visited several times over the years. The food is usually decent, but the service is slow(like others have said here). It’s in need of renovations — not well-maintained or even clean. The food is already overpriced and their up-charges add insult to injury(Add 2.99 to *substitute* sweet potato fries? Really?). Their coffee is always weak and without much flavor, which I guess some people like? Yesterday, we wanted some water after our food had arrived(shouldn’t that be an automatic thing in any restaurant?). At least 5 servers could see that I was craning my neck and they all chose to – not only ignore me, but — not even bother to alert our server. When the server finally fulfilled the water request, she arrived with one glass and said, «Oh, did you BOTH want water?» Last time we visited, I got a reuben and it came on a different bread — the server said, «Yeah, we’ve been out of rye.» — something she could have bothered to share with me when I placed the order. Like I said, we really want to like this place(it’s a «diner» that serves breakfast and it’s so close to home), but the food, service and atmosphere are all lackluster. Even with a Living Social deal, I seriously doubt we’ll put ourselves through that again.

I am originally from NYC and a good diner in these parts is hard to find. After weeks of debating whether or not to try Star Diner, I bit the bullet and went today. While it was a Sunday at 11a, we only had to wait 5 minutes for our table. The service was a bit slow and not all that friendly(the hostess was annoyed with another service and our waitress never bothered to refill my coffee) — so in other words, LIKENYC! The portion was decent and prices fair. Most comparable thing I’ve found to NY for breakfast!
