This place has had a few owners, the new ones now seem to have their act together… Nice menu selections and wonderful bartenders… Not a lot of other nice joints around!

Service has really went down hill. Not sure what’s going on but it’s disappointing. Had a 10 person party and had to literally beg for service. Guess we showed up on the wrong Saturday night. This establishment is the perfect spot for drinks and a good time but not lately. Our food arrived cold and lacking flavor. We had to go to the bar for refills which is not acceptable. I hope they can fill their open positions and make sure on the weekends they are staffed. We won’t be back till we hear good things.

The dinner may have been good if we’d ever gotten it. We waited 45 minutes after ordering appetizers only to be told our order wasn’t put in. Needless to say we left.

My husband and I are from NJ and staying in a cabin in fancy gap, va for vacation. We were looking to get out for a nice dinner. I read reviews about this place and they were really bad or really good. So we decided to try it anyway. The restaurant was beautiful and the service was very good, but the food was HORRIBLE! My husband ordered the bacon wrapped meatloaf. It was spongey and tough to cut into. It tasted life very strong and strange beef. I ordered the crab legs, maybe not a good choice being we are not on the coast in this area. The crab was so dry I started eating parts of the shell because I was tired of trying to pick the flaky meat off of it. I lost more meat it flying everywhere because it was so dry and flaky. New Chef, new menu. We live in Charlotte and as devout foodies have been dying for a good quality restaurant, found it here. Bbq shrimp and goat cheese grits awesome. Pan fried Catfish With CRAWFISH Sauce Was divine! Staff great, spot on with menu recommendations. This rivals Charlotte area restaurants! So happy to have this new chef! Oh did I mention the crème brûlée!

Not impressed. My filet mignon was ordered medium well and arrived well done(and small). Waitress wasn’t attentive enough. I also had a to-go order and they didn’t include the dressing with one salad, and the second salad had the dressing, but the wrong kind! I don’t live around here, but feel bad for the locals if this is one of the better places in town.

Nice little eating spot with outstanding view, The food is good, not GREAT, but there is a nice variety and the service is excellent. Beware of 1) the house salad — an iceberg lettuce garnished with a cherry tomato — and 2) sitting outside after dark –the Mosquitos are large and vicious. Galax has a very limited selection of restaurants and this is, without question, the nicest option.

I’ve been to Bogey’s a couple of times and it’s a very nice spot. I visit my dad in Galax once a year and made my second visit to Bogey’s on this last trip. I can’t get over how everyone knows everyone in this town, but it really comes to your attention in a restaurant like this. My Virginia family constantly runs into a friend, coworker, schoolmate, etc. I ordered the porkchop with mac-n-cheese this last vist and it was ok. My dad had his rehearsal dinner here and the steak I had that night was fantastic. I also have to give them credit for being cool with our crowd of 12 occupying the restaurant for over 2 hours. They were actually very nice about it and kept filling drinks. This is an excellent restaurant for a small town, but I’d certainly visit if it were located in Nashville. The food is excellent and plentiful. I can also certainly appreciate the great service. You can tell that the people running it are incredibly friendly and hard working.

Went with family. First time going since it opened under new management. We used to love eating here before the first close because it truly was the only fine dining establishment in a good distance. Interior: Truly a work of art in the inside, décor works perfectly with the location(mountain/golf course). Was a little crowded in the bar and deserted in the dining room. There was the questionable decision to turn half the lights off in the unused parts of the kitchen and dining room, made the place look cheap and near closure. Service: waitress was phenomenal. Working the floors really hard even when she was 8 months pregnant. Really attentive and nice. Appetizer: Got the cheese fries. Served with a lukewarm nacho cheese sauce and too much salt in a cheap looking basket reminiscent of the Galax Smoke house down the road looked cheek and did not set a good tone for the rest of the meal; however, it was a good predictor. Entrée: We got the Burger Special, Sirloin steak, and Cajun Mac and Cheese. Burger was a repressed patty that was pretty tasteless. Sirloin steak was requested at a medium, received at well done. Host defended the cook and offered to serve a rare steak(described as a medium steak should be), politely refused and the host just walked away. Mac and cheese reused the same nacho cheese from the french fries,(andoullie) Sausage was of questionable quality; was fatty and had a gritty taste. Shrimp were miniscule and undercooked. I could ha e made better MnC from prepackaged boxes at Walmart. Worst food my family has ever had from a ‘fine dining’ establishment. Dessert: We didn’t bother, everything else was unremarkable/terrible so why would this be any different? Overall: Were it a few years back with the original owners I would give it a good rating, it was truly a fine dining experience then. Now it is just a low-middle quality southern steakhouse with nothing going for it but the beautiful interior and sad memory of the past when you would have been happy to eat there.

Maybe as close to fine dining as you’ll get in Galax, Bogey’s is a cross between a golf course clubhouse(it’s located at the Galax Country Club) and an informal steakhouse, but with a mountain view that’s hard to find in any other golf course east of Vail or Aspen. The restaurant is only open for dinner(except for a Sunday Brunch, which we missed), but has as complete a selection of burgers as I’ve seen, plus an interesting«flatbread» menu(think ultra-thin and crispy pizza dough), served with various toppings, including a somewhat dry version of a basic white pizza. But the heart of the menu is beef — both steaks, and burgers. All the standard cuts of steak are available, as well as a type of cream-less stroganoff made with beef tips which was the hit of our meal. Also lamb chops, and several different chicken preparations, round out the menu, but we saw none of those offerings. Our dessert selections were OK, except for the crème brûlée, which was a waste of $ 5. The waitstaff seemed young and energetic, and very eager to please. Their serving skills, however, were on par with those seen at most golf course clubhouses, which was fine. But where our food and service experiences were right-about average, the mountain views from our table, and the restaurant as a whole, were, by themselves worth the price of admission. So don’t miss a visit to Bogey’s if you’re in Galax — but maybe just stick with the burgers.

*************Great Ambiance************* During a recent trip to Galax, VA. the Mr. had a craving for steak. Now Galax is a small town quaint little town. It is quite, peacefulness and rather slow paced of this town. Keeping that in mind we were not sure if the town would even have a steak house. Being from Los Angeles, where steakhouses are a dime a dozen, we really were not expecting what we found. Now this in no way is meant to be offensive or critical of the town. In fact we are looking forward to being the newest residents pretty soon, thus the reason for our visit. So we asked some locals: Does the town have a steak house?(again keep in mind that this is a very small town, rather humble looking) so we were excited when we were told, «Yes! Galax has a steak house» Well we wasted no time in making our way there and what we found blew us away! Bogies, it a beautiful cabin/lodge style restaurant. Once we arrived we were warmly greeted and seated immediately. Their menu offers various options and a nice array of plates from pastas, poultry, seafood and of course steaks and all at very very reasonable prices. But what really stood out was the 48oz… YES48oz! bone-in-rib eye! OMG!!! Even in LA we have never heard of such thing! So we just had to order it. We like our steak medium rare and being it was such a large steak we were concerned that it would be overcooked. But the chef knows her stuff. It was cooked to perfection. In addition we also ordered the rice pilaf, which was nice and moist, mac-N-cheese was nice and creamy. Oh I almost forgot, for an appetizer I highly recommend the bacon wrapped scallops in an orange marmalade… yummy! Finally, if you still have room for desert their peach cobbler and chocolate pecan pie are absolutely delishhhhhhh!!! Everything was absolutely wonderful. Not to mention that the chef came out to check up on us and so did the owner. So when you are in Galax, Bogey’s has not only delicious food but also, great ambiance but wonderful service. BOGEY’S IS A MUST… Can’t wait to go back!

The food is excellent and the service is wonderful. Loved the coleslaw and I am a meat and potatoes guy! Everyone is welcoming and the building is lovely with a great view of the golf course. You can even dine outdoors.
