Old school spot, with classic fare, in South Jersey. This is definitely a special occasion type of restaurant, most times I’ve dined here have been on holidays or other celebrations. Because of this, Rams Head gets overlooked as a place to grab food on an average evening. However, they offer a $ 30 prix fixe 3 course dinner, which for the quality of food, is a great deal. Also, during the summer don’t miss their outdoor patio which is a great spot to get a drink and some appetizers. Speaking of food, the Chicken Pot Pie is one of the best I’ve ever had with flaky crust, light but flavorful gravy and fluffy dumplings. The Beef Wellington is also great. I always like to stick to the standards here. Definitely a solid 4* spot, but giving it 5 stars because of the consistency with which it delivers solid food with friendly service in a pleasant, well worn atmosphere that you don’t find most places. And hey, there isn’t anything much better than throwing on a blazer and digging into some hearty pot pie in front of a wood fire in an early 20th century dining room, there really isn’t.

Would never go back! Totally ruined what was supposed to be a very special holiday dinner with my daughter and grand daughter. Waited 1 ½ hours to be seated! $ 200.00 for what was supposed to be a superb price fix meal, and it turned out horrible. Paper bar napkins. Must say lobster bisque soup was excellent! Décor warm but dated! Lobby smelled like they just had a fire! An over-patronizing mgr. who shouldn’t be mgr. of what at one time was a great, classy place to dine. Don’t waste your money! Over expensive and they just don’t deliver the goods. Another part of what used to be, just fell into the sea of decay.

The service couldn’t have been better the problem lies in the food the only spice they seem to have his salt looks like it was a beautiful place at one time and has been let go the desserts or pre packaged in frozen

Still one of my favorite restaurants in New Jersey. Excellent wine list. Enormous portion of crab meat as an appetizer that features a pile of fresh horseradish on the side. Rack of Lamb is plentiful, tender and sumptuous. Lightest, most delicious chocolate mousse on the planet, period. Subtlety romantic. Entrees are exquisitely presented and bound with flavor. Makes the short trek from AC worthwhile.

My wife and I have dined at the Ram’s Head many times over the years and we consider this our«special place» for anniversaries and special occasions. Last night was our first disappointing meal although the ambience and occasion were still rewarding. My wife ordered the Beef Wellington and asked the server to recommend the order so that it would not be rare but still a little pink in the middle. The waitress recommended medium but the Wellington came blood red and very rare. I had the Cornish Game Hen and although the breast portion was cooked well the legs were literally bleeding when cut into. We enjoy this venue as a special night out and have always felt pampered here but I may not feel so dedicated in the future. It seems that there may have been a change in kitchen staff from our experiences in the past. This really took away from a special night out for me. Disappointing!

The atmosphere here is simply beautiful, elegant, and traditional. Very formal yet welcoming. We went on a Saturday night with 8pm reservations and was initially concerned for the lack of diners. Our party of 9 sat at an empty bar at 730 for a pre dinner drink. The lovely woman playing the piano and singing was very good. Once seated the waitress could have been a bit more pleasant. We felt as if we were bothering her. The dining room was mostly empty save 3 other smaller tables. Considering the size of our party one would see a nice tip coming her way. She obviously didn’t care. Overall the service was good, mainly by everyone besides our actual waitress. Everyone enjoyed their table side Cesar salad and my French onion soup was delicious. My wife ordered the Brie and apples which was amazing. For dinner I had the vegetable risotto which would have been excellent with less spinach. Just slightly too much. Everyone raved about the chicken pot pies and beef Wellington. I highly recommend this place for a romantic dinner or a nice family outing. Expensive and must dress up but worth it.

I’ve been to Rams Head multiple times, for Christmas parties, pharma sponsored dinners and for dinner with friends. I have NEVER been disappointed here. The chicken pot pie is served in an actual pot! It’s flaky and full of big chunks of chicken. The beef Wellington is another great dish and will make you want to kick your plate! Their desert selection is excellent but my favorite is the crème brûlée. The restaurant itself is huge! The décor is rustic which adds to its charm. Service is always excellent and keeps everyone coming back.

How disappointing. We’ve been here several times over the last couple of years & it’s been getting progressively worse. Today was the topper. With a party of 8 they completely ignored us through most of the meal. The manager even came to check on us, took a drink order & never delivered them. The waiter came back & re-took the same order. 6 out of 8 meals came out cold. The«famous pop over» that is supposed to be served hot was cold. Who serves a cold muffin? This will be our last trip here.

We were staying in AC and had this on our list since my husband had been to RHI many years ago and had liked it. The smell and dated décor does take away from the facility. Conversely, the first room is like being in someone’s family room-warm/inviting. We were graciously greeted by our server as we embarked on our dining experience. Our«hiccup» in service occurred with the wine. We chose an older wine and the cork cracked with a portion ending up in the wine bottle. Instead of straining it, she poured for me to try. I had pieces of cork in my glass as I noticed the color of the wine. Upon smelling and tasting, I knew the wine had turned. Management did acknowledge my observation and we replaced it with a different bottle. Wine service lacked a bit(refilling) but onto the food. The pop over and watermelon/cucumber gazpacho(amuse bouche) were outstanding. Appetizers: HOUSESMOKEDSALMON Brioche Croûton, Capers, Herbed Goat Cheese and Shaved Fennel Salad Excellent pairing of ingredients Entrees: CRABCAKESWITH A DIJONMUSTARDSAUCE Potato Pancake and a Fresh Summer Vegetables Medley Very good, the vegetable medley was perfectly cooked CHICKENPOTPIE Fresh Vegetables & Dumplings in Creamy Gravy, Served in a Copper Kettle Their signature — huge portion– delicious Dessert: Key lime pie– good ending to our meal The Ram’s Head offers a more formal, old world experience. Service does have some short falls, but the food makes up for that.

I have had Rams head catered events before and it is always delicious. I am here for a wedding today and am sure it will be beautiful. Rehearsal dinner was delicious, I had the chicken pot pie, served in an iron pot and dished out table side. The dessert I selected was cheesecake which was rich and creamy, drizzled with raspberry. Would love to come for dinner on my own sometime for a fine dining experience

1 star is it for this place and that 1 star is for the beautiful atmosphere and the meticulous manner in which it is kept, really beautiful. Service was absentee and as if she was doing us a favor. Apps were ok, clam app was very good. Entrees took an absurd amount of time to come out and when they did come out, we knew why. They were sitting on a table somewhere in the kitchen to be served for no less than 15 minutes. It was an embarrassment to the establishment to serve 3 cold entrees. How the COOK in the back and the rest of the staff can keep walking past Entrees that are suppose to be served hot, watch them go cold and not give a Damn??? When I told the MGR about our cold entrees she told me that the rule is they are served as soon as they are platted. So I guess our cold entrees was really hot and we were just too stupid to know it. For Free, I would not go back. Came from AC for something different, what a waste of Time, Money and Grief!!!

Worst experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant and I’m 56 years old. Service was absolutely horrible. we had a large group reserved and 4 out of 11 were food poisoned from the seafood. We had to drive home sick as can be. Management was notified about the service and the poisoning and provided no compensation other than«sorry for your experience».

This place is gorgous, large with a spacious waiting room and coat check. I had my birthday dinner here with 3 other people. We were promptly seated even though we were late to our reservations. My group and I decided to order from the restaurant week menu which consisted of an appetizer, entrée and dessert for $ 33/per person. To start, I had the crab cake appetizer that didn’t impress. There was barely any meat, the stuffing over powered the maginificent taste of a true crab cake. My party was pleased with the new england clam chowder and steamed clams. As my entrée, I had the lamb shacks with the mashed and bundled up vegetables that every entrée received. Lamb was very tough, gamy, and tasted very chewy to the point were I returned it since it was unedible. To be on the safe side, I got the sauteed trout to replace the bad taste in mouth. it was edible but definetely not delicious. The filet mignon was tough also and the salmon wellington was dry and overcooked. It seemed like they serve the same sauce and sides for every meal, no creativity whatsoever. So far nor was my party or I were impressed. lets see if they can redeem themselves with dessert… Mind you, all their desserts are presented on a rolling tray displayed in the dinning room, so once your ready for dessert, they roll it on over so you can see and choose your favorite. So we got the key lime pie, cheesecake, and tiramisu. Another disappoitment! Since all the dessert is out in the open, they were all DRY and mediocre! Who knows how many hours they were on display. Service was like watching a circus act. Everywhere you looked, the servers were either dropping drinks/food and you couldn’t help but to look especially when you hear a loud bang. We must’ve asked for our check 3x until we finally got it. We had 2 servers taking care of us but service was still very slow and drinks were very weak! I really enjoyed my company but nothing else.

Birthday dinner The service was really slow for restaurant week. The food quality was not fresh for the price. Ambiance was pretty which is why I am giving it a two star.

This is a bit late but I organized a bunch of small dinners for my company during the Christmas season and ended up going to most of them as a representation for the company. This means that I had about 10 or so lunches and dinners of large parties during what is probably one of their busier times of the year. We had a limited menu for the meals but I ended up trying nearly everything on it and let me tell you that everything was amazingly delicious. The servings ranged from exactly the right portion size to enough for at least two meals(I ate the chicken pot pie for 3, actually) and most of the servers were absolutely amazing. The only downside was that it did take a long time to get through the meals. I think this is partially due to how fresh they make everything and their general atmosphere and that I was always in a group of 8 or more people and it’s just hard to coordinate that many meals. So I’d say expect to spend some time, but it’s definitely worth it.

Went last night for dinner. The moment you step into the place you can tell that everything was well thought out. The décor is beautiful(especially around Christmas) and reminds one of an old colonial house. We were pleasantly greeted by the hostess who took our coats and then showed us to our seats. The table was nicely arranged with elegant dinnerware. The servers both introduced themselves and were very pleasant and attentive. The food was very good and plentiful. The Melba toast on the table could have been left out but when they brought the dinner rolls our eyes lit up. Big, sweet, fluffy, and tasty; a real treat. Next they brought an amuse(had to look up what this was lol) which was a broccoli cheddar soup. It was good but lacked a stronger broccoli flavor. We then had the Caesar salad which is prepared table side. It was a nice production and the salad itself was excellent. The portion was of good size, but I didn’t think it warranted the $ 12 per person price. For the main course my wife and I had the Branzino which came with vegetables and mashed potatoes. The Branzino itself was cooked to perfection and was extremely tasty. Loved every bite. However, it wasn’t cleaned very well and we were both picking out bones. The vegetables were a mix wrapped by a scallion which I thought was clever and the vegetables themselves were very good. The mashed potatoes were good also. Mom had the Chicken Pot Pie which looked very good and I think she enjoyed it. Next came the dessert. I had the key lime pie. Just having come back from Key West not too long ago I was hesitant to order it. I was pleasantly surprised and considered it one of the better key lime pies I’ve tasted. The bottom crust was alittle thick but the filling itself was perfectly tart and just enough sweetness. The wine selection is very good and the wines we had by the glass were excellent, but at $ 11-$ 13 a glass somewhat pricey. We also had a nice dessert wine. The service was excellent. Everyone in the place had a smile. I never felt rushed which is a big thing for me(hate having the check presented quickly after finishing the meal). They were great and allowed us plenty of time to relax and ask for the check when ready. So why not a 5 star review? It was very close as most everything in my review was positive, but the few negatives mentioned brought it down one star. Probably will go back again on special occasions.

Went to this fine establishment for a holiday luncheon with my friends. I had the $ 25 fixe price lunch that consisted in a butter lettuce salad with Mushrooms and rainbow radish. For my entrée I ordered the famous rams head chicken pot pie it is served in an individual copper pot and is full of chicken, vegetables and dumplings. perfect for a cold winter day. The dessert was a slice of key lime pie and the portions here are very generous. Everyone in our group took home leftovers. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in this area it is A lovely place for special occasions. There are private dining rooms for small groups as well as the main dining room open all year round.

Classic. Classy. Tradition. Traditional. My family had been coming to Ram’s Head Inn for special occasions since well before I was born, and holds a very special place in our hearts. We can always expect a high quality, high caliber experience to this day. The Ram’s Head Inn gives off a very old-style feel without feeling stuffy or pretentious. Each room is individually decorated and includes many old antiques, china plates and old paintings. There are chandeliers, brick walls and paisley rugs that make me feel like I’m in an old, well-kept mansion. Our tradition is to stop in the lounge for a drink prior to sitting down for dinner. It has the feel of an old but updated library. It’s also nice that on certain days they offer beverages at happy hour prices. My favorite is the lemon drop and I enjoyed one glass along with a glass of 14 Hands Merlot last night. Once seated in the dining room, we had the pleasure of having Linda as server. She’s been our server many times over the years and is exceptional. She’s always friendly, personable, attentive and professional. Don’t expect to rush through your meal, sit back and enjoy your dining experience. My family ordered off of the Twilight Menu which is Ram’s Head’s prix fixe menu, that I believe is offered every day except Saturday. We’ve always gotten it on Sundays so I would just give them a call before going in during the week. The prix fixe includes three courses off of a special menu for $ 29.95 and tax. The great thing is that the portions and quality are the same as their regular menu. After placing our order, we each received a chef’s sample of the watermelon gazpacho. It was served chilled and in a shot glass. The watermelon was blended and very refreshing. I started with the soup du jour which was a Jersey style clam chowder. It consisted of a creamy tomato base with pieces of fresh clam and asparagus. The difference between this and a Manhattan clam chowder was the creaminess of the soup; it was almost like a bisque. In between courses, we all nibbled on the fresh-baked puffed bread popovers. The insides were fluffy with a little bit of onion and the outsides had a slight crisp, almost like a biscuit. They were flavored really well on their own and really didn’t need butter added. For my main course, I ordered the char grilled sirloin medium rare. Unfortunately, I was already started to slow down so wasn’t able to savor every single bit of my perfectly cooked meat. I’m sure it will reheat well later though! It was served with buttered mash potatoes and a bouquet of carrots, green beans, asparagus and broccoli rabe. Even for a sirloin, it was juicy and didn’t have an inch of fat. Luckily, I rebounded by the time the dessert tray was brought to our table. I ordered the New York style cheesecake but was able to sample the apple cobbler, chocolate mousse cake and crème brûlée. The cheesecake was rich and creamy and did not have a crust. It was topped with grilled pineapple and accompanied by whipped cream and a few fresh berries. Every dessert was great against its own standard but the cheesecake was my favorite. Ram’s Head Inn isn’t too far away from Atlantic City and is a nice option when looking for a fine dining experience. They are also a wedding and special event venue. I trust that I will have many great meals and experiences at Ram’s Head Inn for years to come.

Everything about this place is high class — the décor, the food, the service… I was told that it’s tradition for men to wear jackets here, although I’m not sure this is still mandatory — you might feel out of place if you do not. There is valet parking, but it is not mandatory and you can park in a lot that is off to the side. The staff here are very well trained, and you can tell that a lot of work was put into their etiquette. I had a Caesar salad(which is prepared right at the table) and the special that day — blue marlin — which was, by far, the best piece of fish I’ve ever had in my life. I can’t even begin to explain how well done everything was. High class comes at a high price — this is the first time I’ve ever rated a restaurant on Unilocal with $$$$. Expect your appetizers to come at the cost of a main course plate at a traditional restaurant.
